to serve as a recruiting tool and instructional video. Sadly, his young charges will never hear Keith Jackson say "he's fast, he's big, he's strong, he's - touchdown Michigan."

When you look up BAMF in the dictionary it has Wheatley's picture there front & center.  I hope we can keep him for a while...just have this crazy feeling he wants to move up the coaching pyrmaid soon.

For all those who are worried about losing staff- these guys, if successful, will be prime candidates for the big job once Harbaugh retires

I can see Wheatley being a successful coach at another program and taking the Michigan job, no matter the circumstance, for sure. Even if that doesn't happen, I know we'll have a pool of very good coaches ready to continue Harbaugh's legacy. Hopefully a Bo-Moeller-Carr type situation.

You know he won't take another college job. Out of the question. Return to the  pros? He's been there and he  has seen the problems that can be caused by those with little to no football knowledge, so I'm guessing he ends it here. I'm sure the  passion will subside a bit, but hell, Saban is I believe near his mis 60s and seems to be enjoying life to  the max. I think that fire in Harbaugh is going to  be a tough one to extinguish.

This isn't a Jerry Kill situation where everyone basically started together, got their promotions all at the same time and that complete ease and no hesitation at all in sharing your thoughts as to the direction of the prorgam because there is an understood pecking order and no thoughts are summarily dismissed. But that situation is so damn rare where you start together, realize some sucess and half jokingly  say, "this could lead somewhere." I think their aspirations are limited and it's obvious that Jim likes picking up assistants that want to be the head man. But they could have some waiting to do.

Doesn't seem to matter as to replacements and there is a good reason for that and its the same at Bama, OSU, was in place at USC with Carroll. Your assistant is going to  bring something to the party. But obviously they will be working within the job description as Harbaugh sees it. As is the case with every job, the more you prove the greater your latitude. I  absolutely love the opportunities he is giving to these high school coaches recognized as the best at their level, but if they show enough, Harbaugh has no problem with allowing them to bypass what most have to do, like the GLIAC, MAC, etc. Hell, that's the way he started. They are naturall accepted as being familiar with a certain fertile recruiting area, but one thing I think that is overlooked, they also are the new wave. They approach the game differently, and high school coaches have made some tremendous contributions to higher levels.

And as much as I disliked the guy, basically for making far too much money for what he had proven, Lane Kiffen actually seems to be learning the damn game. Next job he  gets as HC might actually stick.

If we were to have this conversation in about ten years, I would think Drevno and Fisch are long gone, possibly along with others. But if they had a head gig at anything less than a destination school, they would be prime candidates. Think Mo knew he would get that job someday. For Lloyd it was an accident. However, the money has changed everything. These guys that have it, like Hermmans at Houston aren't going to  turn the opporutnity down. But with  their connections where they started will be there forever.

I mean, Harbaugh doesn't mess around with his staff selections.  You have to be the best at everything you do to work for him, and it shows in stuf like recruiting rankings as well as how the squads look on the field.  I mean, the RBs definitely looked better this offseason than in years past.

Jim listed what he looks for and he Aced every one. That program he  ran at Pararmus Catholic had/has some absolute studs. Obviously, just judging by the way they played IMG that first half, one of the more talented h.s. teams in the nation.

And it isn't only the parochial school coaches that get chances now to prove their ability to attract players. I look at my hometown of Muskegon and Mona Shores, specifically. Prior to school of choice, I think they had one top 20 finish in their history. And they remained a doormat for long after choice became a thing. The right coach arrived, and within a few years they  were making back-to-back visits to Ford Field.

And you have to love Partridges answer about  his future. "My future is what Coach Harbaugh says it is."  Think he is practiced at interviewing.

Wheatley wants a head coaching position, so much so that he doesn't bother to hide it in interviews. This can only help him. Sure, it sucks when someone who's amazing at their job leaves, but people who are amazing at their jobs deserve promotion. Harbaugh is also the type who will go to the list, find someone who he thinks will be better than Wheatley, and hire him. As others have said, far better to lose a guy due to success than to kick him out due to incompetence.

And I'll add that the best leaders are the ones who are confident enough in themselves that they're not afraid to surround themselves with talented people, knowing that those talented people will move on with their careers and perhaps even outpace said leader. Not being fear driven is a wonderful leadership trait and I believe Harbaugh had that in spades

Not many would pass up the opportunity to have the best view in the house to see your son play Big Time ball. At the same time, I'm sure he's not going to pass up the next logical step, OC, if the offer is right. Realize he has had other stops, but I have a feeling he and J.H. are on the same page as to offense, and Fisch is right with them. So I can see him taking advantage of a nice pay check, learning from a couple people who know how to maximize the hell out  of their offensive personnel. But someone will come calling. Hell, it might  break here for him. But based on recruiting alone, many schools would take him for that aspect.

As another poster mentioned that being somewhat of a new honor, Top Recruiter, I'm wondering if there is some type of bonus tied in with that. Only reason I ask is when looking over some of the bonus clauses for the head man, I must admit I was surprised at more than a few of them.

The other day I pointed out how Wheatly was killing it in recruiting and some douchers really gave me the business. This thread is sweet sweet vindication.

I'll take the liberty of pointing out that what you actually said was:

Is it just me or is Ty Wheatly a better recruiter than he was an athlete?

So the suggestion that he wasn't all that great an athlete was resoundingly corrected. And rightfully so.

He is actually the best recruiter we have. I know guys are gonna have a fit because I said so but if you look at our recruiting since he has arrived. our running backs group are the fastest positions to fill up. This happened last year as well. Sure we usually pick up that one home run back that you must make room for no matter what, but recruits want to play for this guy.

I remember last year we had to tweek the positional roles of some backs to make room for more RB's. I see the same thing happening here again. We will have 4 dynamite RB's in the fold before summer hits. Then, we will ikely take the home run guy close to signing day.

I wish our O Line was coming together this fast.

spreads out the recruiting assignments among the staff.  These are the "lead" recruiters, but the whole staff including JH, visit the recruits.

Last year JH & Mattison were visiting some of the top recruits together, but not necessarily as the "lead".

Partridge got the top honor last year and was credited with 11 recruits, way more than normal.  And Fisch was well placed nationally.

This year Wheatley is getting the credit.  This is one of the more subtle details and shows how Harbaugh is on top of everything.

When Mattison came here from the Ravens he carried the reputation as one of the best recruiters in college football.

The whole staff are "aces", just taking turns in the spotlight.  Wait until Don Brown gets his turn.
