What Will Dr. Beilein, Mad Scientist, Cook Up during this Down Time?

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

So our very own Mad Scientist, the esteemed Dr. John Belelin, now has almost 2 weeks to scheme, teach and create.  He'll assumedly give the guys some rest and then crank up the laboratory to produce freak basketball schemes with which to wither opponents.  I had a sparty friend who is a great guy tell me today that Belein is a better coach than Izzo and his team is [expletives deleted, loosely translates as weak].  He also thought we were the ones that started the jawing on Saturday.

With this extra time you know that JB won't be sitting still, he'll be working on things.  A few guesses might be:

1.  Free Throws

2.  Some different zone looks, like maybe a 1-3-1 trap zone.

3.  Modify our high screen and roll O, work Teske in there for more offense, or even as a 'Two Towers' mode with Mo.  Could be lethal.

4.  Free Throws!!

So the question is:  What do you think JB might install/tweak/add?

Great weekend for the good guys, hockey too.  Go Blue!

second round exit is not out of the question.  Even as a 3 seed we would be playing a high caliber team in the second round, like a Florida or a West Virginia type oufit.

We won't lose in the first round.  We have a very talented, experienced team and they are playing well.  After that, there are no guarantees in the tournament.

Twin towers is intriguing against the right matchups, but only if no foul troubles.   Teske is too valuable as big man safety valve.   Which means probably not until late in the 1st half or in the 2nd half to be absolutely certain Mo/Moe hasn't picked up that 2nd or 3rd foul.

I hate playing this game, but can you imagine this roster with D.J. Wilson?  We would automatically have twin towers, plus his length and versatility would only inflate this team's defensive prowess.    The lineup combinations would have been mind boggling.

Otherwise, JB will keep tinkering.   His biggest project?  Getting Poole back on the swag train.

It won't be two bigs.  And not the 1-3-1, unless we are well behind.   I see more set plays for Duncan and Moe, getting Poole back on track and getting Livers healthy.

And, of course, free throws--though Matthews and Z seem to have righted the ship .....to an extent.

1.  It will be a defensive wrinkle or two like some zones to throw in there and steal a possession or two.

2.  Preparing for and breaking the trap

3.  Ton of set plays and just running reps on what we have in the tool box

4.  Free throw shooting!!!!

5.  Not too bigs at same time.. our offense depends on spreading the floor not clogging it up, plus dont want our bigs to be handling the ball that much and trying to be playmakers.  That's a recipe for more turnovers (sorry Mo....)
