What happened to all the consternation about playing MSU at night

Submitted by scanner blue on

I searched the board back to pregame threads and saw nothing critiquing the fact that we played a night game against a rival. What gives? Did Ann Arbor couches burn? Were there more drunk out of control fans in your section than at UTL1? The official stadium police blotter released by UM seemed similar to Air Force. I started my game day at 1:45 west of downtown (street parking was gone) stopped by the Beer Grotto and then the Jolly Pumpkin and don't remember encountering much Sparty (similar trip before Nebraska's first gme and downtown was full of Big Red). Strolled by Fingerle, Elbel, the Blue lot and then on to UM golf course and everything seemed normal if not subdued. The most green I saw was 150 green shirts marching under Dr.Pasquale. My scanning duties at Gate 10 were also very run of the mill, actually less drunk ,staggering coeds than at a noon game (110 lb.18 yr. old girls should not drink at ten a.m. on empty stomachs). Redeploy to Sec. 8 in the first quarter and I don't think we needed the response team or local law inforcement once which is also not normal given that the top 8 rows of that section are the visiting ticket allotment. My post game walk down mainstreet had a few loudmouths referencing who's little brother now and their 8 out of 10 victories but that was about it. I got home about the same time as after PSU at night. ANY horror stories from others?

I too thought there was too much consternation about having a night game.

HOWEVER, it's also possible that the giant rainstorm that came through subdued things. When people are soaking wet and muddy, I think they're a little less likely to want to spend extra time destroying things. They probably just want to get back to their cars, dry off, and go home.

We ran into a few drunk asses who thought it was wise to mock my son's girlfriend as we passed them on the sidewalk. The lead dipshit got in her face and poked a finger on her shoulder. My son and I didn't take to kindly to that. There were no punches thrown but it got heated pretty quick.
However, we weren't on campus past midnight. I'm sure there are stories about douchebaggery.

All the consternation was from pearl clutchers clutching thier pearls.  except for WD - I don't know what his issue is.  I don't think he's old enough to own pearls, but who knows?

Not in the mood. Plus if we play during the day, it is not raining. Then perhaps we don't turn the ball over 5 fucking times or perhaps we can hang on to the fucking ball. Thanks for helping me come to that realization dickhead.

happened with a dry ball, no need to name call fine sir (or madam). The thread was created not to discuss the actual play of the student athletes but of the particulars in and around the stadium of a night game against MSU ..period.

Horror story? Yeah -- I had a nightmare that no-one from the offensive staff was fired during the upcoming offseason.

We arrived at about 6:15 or so, and parked pretty far out. I ended up getting a ride to the stadium by a friend of mine who is an officer with AAPD on her way to the end of her shift. She said that it was surprisingly quiet, and much calmer than they expected. Few if any fights, and everyone was pretty well-behaved.

As a bonus, my son got his first ride in the back of a squad car.

MSU is used to beating us. It isn't as much of a thrill for them as it was 10 years ago when the STAEE picture was taken.

Last year in Columbus it was pretty chill too.  Amazing how when you become a doormat to your biggest rivals the edgy behaviour dies down.
