What Bagmen? Michigan MBB 2020 Recruiting Class Ranked #4

Submitted by Communist Football on January 2nd, 2020 at 8:23 AM

The narrative this year has been that Michigan will never win anything of note because we are too principled or something. But those principles haven't prevented us from having the #4 recruiting class in the country in men's basketball for the Class of 2020, behind only Kentucky, Duke, and UNC.

To me, the lesson is: stop making excuses. It is possible to have Michigan's academic standards, and Michigan's follow-the-rules principles, and still win—both on the recruiting trail and on the field or court.

Can people drop it with the morality bullshit around UM sports?  Yes, Michigan is probably cleaner than your average program in football and basketball.  But every one of UM's commits were being heavily pursued by teams that we all turn our noses up to because of how flagrant they are with flaunting the rules.  I'm sure a lot of these guys like Howard and figure they can get good coaching at UM and learn from a long-term NBA vet with connections, but there are always people floating around these orbits that are less-than-savory, and that includes people with interest in UM.  And my guess is they also existed during Beilein's run.

And frankly, I don't really care anymore.  BS paid the NCAA billions of dollars to televise March Madness.  These guys are expected to fly to random ballrooms on tropical islands to play in front of millions of people watching at home.  It's a business, and if a guy with in-demand skills wants to cash in on that a bit so be it.

Do we know for sure that basketball doesn’t have bagmen now? I really could not care less if Michigan does pay for recruits; it’s more morally wrong to not adequately compensate the players for their value. It is widely suspected that other programs do this and yet zero consequences have befallen them. At this point Michigan would be foolish NOT to have bagmen.

It’s called having a coach that knows how to get kids to the NBA. Hate to say it but most highly ranked basketball kids want to put on one to two years and go pro.

Imma need to see Todd sign his name on the dotted line before I get hyped about rankings. If Todd decides to play overseas then we will fall out of the Top 10

You do realize that Michigan currently owns the largest pay for play scandal in NCAA basketball history ?
