What's happening on the 28th?
Saw something tonight that said that something will be announced about Michigan football on the 28th, does anyone have any info about this? Sorry i made a new thread about this if it was already posted but i couldn't find anything about it anywhere.

lol, too soon?

The plan for New Michigan Stadium is supposedly to be announced.
(South endzone upper deck).....
Just kidding I have no clue. But I hope The Big House expands to 120,001 to beat Salt Lake Stadium in India. And then the US or Kitten Army bombs North Korea's May Day Stadium, making us the largest in THE WORLD.
MWUAHAHA.

Hearing some rumors that it may involve dropping ND from the schedule but who knows if that is true. It is not supposed to be bad news so that should put people at ease.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:38 PM ^
yeah you beat me to it
December 27th, 2011 at 12:45 AM ^
I heard it's about making Hoke a "Wolverin for life"
December 27th, 2011 at 12:05 PM ^
I hope we don't drop ND and add a patsy.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
my best guess would be the termination of the michigan vs. notre dame series for a more national one like florida or usc. the objective being to help with national recruiting, but still i dont get why we would do that after seeing how exciting the past couple games against them were it seems like that would create more recruiting buzz than a potential blowout against an sec team.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
You have so little faith in this team that you think scheduling an SEC team would be a one-way ticket to a blowout?
December 26th, 2011 at 11:03 PM ^
It's not a big stretch to arrive at that conclusion, especially since this is the first year for Hoke. If we continue improving, I don't see this as a bad idea. Competing (winning or even losing close games) with good SEC teams would be good for us in the long run in my opinion. Better than beating an anually overhyped ND team by a couple points.
December 27th, 2011 at 12:30 AM ^
Michigan has actually held its own quite well against the SEC over the past couple decades. We did get creamed by Mississippi State last season and by Tennessee in 2002, but we've beaten Florida twice (2003, 2008), Auburn (2001), Alabama (2000), Arkansas (1999), and Ole Miss (1991). We also had a loss to Alabama in 1997, but it was a close game.
Nonetheless I hope we keep the ND game, and stop playing so many FCS schools and lousy MAC opponents.

The only way to be the Champion is to beat the champions

We outgained Bama 360 - 180.
However, as we were about to extend our lead from 6-3 to 9-3 on third & goal, Griese thought it would be a good idea to throw a desperation jump pass over the middle, which was intercepted by the Bama linebacker & returned for a Bama TD.
WIthout that gift, we very likely win in a dominating defensive performance.
December 27th, 2011 at 9:55 AM ^
According to John U Bacon in Three and Out the team that played in the Gator Bowl was pretty much spent. They had nothing left in the tank for a lame duck coach other than the 14 they put up to start the game.
December 27th, 2011 at 10:10 AM ^
in the summer tour series over the summer that they wouldn't consider dropping Notre Dame for a home and home with another national power.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:46 AM ^
I find summer tour series that occur over the summer to be much better than summer tour series that occur over the winter.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:38 AM ^
when Hoke & Co are up by multiple scores in the 2nd half.
If Michigan fells an SEC team by a blowout margin & no one is there to see it, does it really help recruiting?

Barack Obama is holding a press conference to announce that Hoke has been chosen to coach the players of his choosing against a team of martians that have come to Earth to declare intergalactic supremacy in the game of American football.

No Independence Day-based Politics!!!

I imagined that the world leaders agreed to set aside any politics in all Space Jam scenarios.
December 26th, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
Hoke commented, tellingly, that he would have walked to planet Earth if that's what it took.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
dropping Notre Dame wouldn't be a good thing IMO that is a classic rivalry and brings national spotlight. Wouldn't mind a series against USC because that would help with Cali recruiting or a series against Florida/FSU.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:46 PM ^
I mean, I have a great love for the ND-Michigan rivalry, so I'd be adverse to change it. However, if you want to schedule a game or a series against another school, the Notre Dame game makes it difficult, scheduling wise, especially when you might have several games away from home.
I'd love to see a game against a SEC school or a Pac-12 school. Even a Big XII (Oklahoma or Texas) would be good.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:48 PM ^
Texas wouldn't be a bad matchup, actually we would destroy them, but i want nothing to do with them
December 26th, 2011 at 11:06 PM ^
I just threw that name out there because it is a big name in college football, but out of curiousity, why would you want "nothing to do with them?"
December 26th, 2011 at 11:09 PM ^
Big 12 thing with Texas A&M and Longhorn network, I don't want to give them any media attention and would rather just avoid them in all sports because they think they are better than everyone
December 27th, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
I agree to an extent. I mean, I don't like Texas for being very selfish with the Big XII network and all, but that's not really our problem. They're going to be promoted by ESPN and they're going to be making the big dollars. They're getting that money regardless. I see no problem with Michigan knocking them down a few pegs in any situation. I think that's what you should want if, as you said, we are going to "destroy them."
December 27th, 2011 at 12:33 AM ^
It's odd how they never seem to learn. I mean, we taught them how to play football all those years ago and yet every season ND wants us to take them to school all over again. *shrugs*
December 27th, 2011 at 10:18 AM ^
When I look at the schedule each season, I look to see how many marquee games we have at home and ND is always one of those games. The thought that we are going to drop them from the schedule and replace them with someone better every season is unrealistic. Brandon will end up replacing ND with another high profile opponent (e.g., Georgia, Texas) about half the time and then stick us with a bunch of additional MAC teams or worse for the remainder. Be very careful what you wish for.
Also, the idea that ND would not be able to find another high quality opponent to replace us is equally delusional. They are one of the elite programs/brands that help sell tickets and generate TV ratings. Just like Michigan, they will have no problem getting Georgia or Florida or Oregon or LSU or some similar program to fill the slot if that is what they want. The losers in any concerted effort by the B10 to cut out ND will be Sparty and Purdue.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:42 PM ^
To hell with notre dame.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
Amen. ND needs to be locked out by the Big 10. Let them see what it's like being independent and schedule all of the service academies. Fuck them
December 26th, 2011 at 11:19 PM ^
December 27th, 2011 at 12:42 AM ^
I would like to add, though, that I have trouble understanding why the Big Ten has allowed ND to cherry-pick a mini-Big Ten schedule, but without the grind, for as long as I can remember.
We have a supporter in the MSM; Angelique has written about this before, too. The Big Ten should tell ND to join if they want to play Big Ten teams. ND's schedule is so easy that they should have a legitimate shot at a BCS "Championship" more years than not, because Michigan and USC are the only consistently elite teams they play as "rivalry games", while teams like Sparty and Purdue should usually serve as great foils for ND's success.
Also, playing ND doesn't help recruiting as much as a game in Florida, Texas, or California would. At any rate, I'm looking forward to the announcement.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:46 PM ^
if we do drop ND...can we at least have scoreboard updates of Kelly's head turning deep purple and exploding?
December 27th, 2011 at 5:50 AM ^
Sooooo glad this guy didn't become our coach. Doubly so after his comment about how he can tell the difference between "his recruits" and the "other guys". Afterwards Manti Te'o tweeted something to the effect of he was "playing for his bro's and that's it" - way to lose your best LB, there, Kelly.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
Where did all of this speculation stem from in the first place?
December 28th, 2011 at 11:13 AM ^
Um... didn't it come from you, since you're the OP? You said you "saw something tonight that said that something will be announced about Michigan football on the 28th"... so...
1) What did you see?
2) Where did you see it?
December 26th, 2011 at 11:00 PM ^
You guys are kidding yourselves if you think a national series will be scheduled. IF this happens and the series is terminated effective immediately, then that means Michigan most likely schedules a home game against an FCS school or low-level FBS school for the 9/22 week next season.
DB said flat out back awhile ago, he wants more home games because he wants to make more money. This is no surprise to me, and I actually hope it happens.
If you've ever read the book "Natural Enemies", about Michigan vs ND series history. The athletic department has had a long history of giving ND the finger and telling them to stick their series up their ass.
Yost didn't want to play ND, the teams went on a hiatus from 1910-1941 without playing.
The series resumed in 1942 and 1943 in a home and home.
ND's coach Leahy in 1943 was a dick, so Crisler didn't want to play ND.
Another hiatus from 1944-1977.
If Michigan tells ND to take a hike, I'm sure Yost and Crisler will be smiling.
December 26th, 2011 at 11:12 PM ^
I would think if they stopped playing, they would make it effective 2013 or 2014. Can't pass up earning more $$$ by extorting the fact that it will be the "last" foreseeable game between to the two.
With that said, I'm fine with it. I like what OSU did with USC/Miami/(I think Texas) having a home and home with each of them.
December 27th, 2011 at 12:59 AM ^
the speculation came from a michigan insider that posted on michigan's scout.com message board:
"Eyes/ears open on the 28th. One decision will be undone while another will be unveiled. It's not bad news. In fact, I think it will bring about some things Michigan fans have waited a long time for. Unfortunately, the change won't come quickly. Not apparel related."
We decided that michigan cancelling the series with ND matches up with what he is saying
undone- michigan vs. nd series
unveilved- series with a national opponent
schedule changes like this dont come quickly, and it isnt bad news because it would help recruiting.
dont you think that matches up pretty well with what he said?
December 27th, 2011 at 1:04 AM ^
Does he imply that we will have another long term series with a single opponent, or several home and homes with a variety of different opponents? Or is this simply not revealed.
December 27th, 2011 at 1:19 AM ^

well he refers to whats being unveiled as just one decision, so if he really is talking about the termination of the ND series i would assume that one decision would just mean replace it with one team. im not sure if that makes sense but playing a different team every year would seem like multiple decisions.
December 27th, 2011 at 1:29 AM ^
I guess I read out of that that the "decision" is that we are going to play a series of home and homes as a part of our future scheduling logic.
I don't see a long term series with a single program making sense in the long run, unless its a school in Texas, Florida, or California. Which it very well could be.
December 27th, 2011 at 9:28 AM ^
Is that guy from middle earth? I feel like we'll be scheduling USC but we'll have to destroy the ring first
One series to rule them all
