We are not alone.

Everyone knows how our fan base currently feels. Perhaps they can only imagine.

Since this will most certainly be discussed throughout the rest of the season, I thought I would post the very beginning of the majority's subjective view of that 4th down run in the first OT.

Hopefully this consoles those, like myself, who still believe.

Edit: I understand there were numerous atrocious calls and non-calls for that matter, but the above (in my opinion), was paramount to the others and handled terribly by the stripes

My original post was mostly sarcasm. I thought they did everything they had to do to win that game, but it really just came down to turnovers, and in that department, we unfortunately had our worst game against the most opportunistic defense in college football. I was certain before the game started that OSU would struggle with long fields all day, as they haven't been able to do anything with them against anyone. And this was true, but we gift wrapped them 14 points on turnovers and that's your game right there.

They missed two FGs, threw a pick on their side of the field, and gaffed a punt on their 15 yard line. That's your game right there. Except it wasn't. Both teams made mistakes and played really well in the game. When it's that tightly contested, it is unreasonable for either team to be asked to overcome critical bad calls by officials. You are not being clever or keepin' it real by saying M should have taken care of business and not thrown a pick 6. It's just so plainfully and stupidly obvious a point that it's assumed in the discussion. We're talking about a game on a razor's edge where Michigan at a minimum had to overcome two missed pass interference penalties and dealt with multiple other questionable calls, all of which went against them.

They definitely got hosed by the refs but the play calling wasn't the greatest. Also, the 3 turnovers, 2 of which led to 14 points hurt big time. I felt Michigan was 10-14 points better than OSU, unfortunately that's not what the final score indicated. Im sick. Will take a while to get over this loss.

We're not 10-14 points better, bc the turnovers are part of the game. The first we let an unblocked blitzer through, taking Speight's follow through away and leading to a short throw. On the second, Speight made a poor read, but the LB made a great play on the ball. 90% of teams the latter goes through his arms and falls to the ground. And Ohio made mistakes as well. Playcalling concerns I don't see. M threw on first down a bunch, and were unfortunate that two great plays were submarined by their own errors: the draw play to Higdon is a huge gain if he cuts it indide, and the screen play to Smith by the facemask. Add those and it's 50 more yards and huge momentum shifts. You have try to keep running the ball to try and move the sticks, keep the OSU offense off the field

Uhhh.... If that or possibly any of the other 'questionable' calls are different, it would have changed the outcome and it would have absolutely changed where our team is going. M would have been going to the B1G champ game and most likely the playoff. This is one of the biggest bad calls in the history of the sport. I really don't think I'm exaggerating by saying that. Changing any of the poor calls could have changed the outcome, giving him the line to gain because its the easier call is literally taking the game away. It should have been over there, it very well may have never got to that point if the game was called well from the start.

I've always felt that the replay rules are set up to get more plays wrong. The on-the-field call has no bearing on whether or not the play was called correctly. I say we stick a camera on the refs, get their exact perspective, and then, if the play goes to replay, ignore their call completely and go with what is the most likely to have happened based on replay.

I think there are 2 good counter-arguments.  First, you do need a "tie-breaker" for those situations where the replay is not definitive, and going with the call on the field is better than just flipping a coin or something.

More importantly, though, the view the refs have will in many cases actually be objectively better than any replay.  The refs are in the middle of the action, closer than the cameras, and carefully positioning themselves.  Obviously they still get it wrong all too often, but a good chunk of that is inevitable.  The cameras then can be used to step in & help out the refs when they miss a bang-bang play or can't get in the right position, etc.

In that case I think a solution would be the refs being able to make the call on the field if they think they saw it well enough (and use review as a tiebreaker), or they should just be able to not make a call, say they were out of position, and use the replay solely for the call. Is this realistic? Fuck no, but I'm tired and I hate Ohio

I'm more pissed about the Cole fasemask and then the Delano Hill PI call on an uncatchable ball.  That there makes it 4th and long with 4 minutes or so to go and osu with one timeout. They then either have to go for it deep in their own end or punt and risk not getting the ball back.  But I understand where you are coming from.

I just don't get it. I've been so damn pissed all afternoon and night now. Anyone who says that complaining about this game being a pathetic thing to do, is pretty much a dumb fuck. Yeah, Michigan made some mistakes that kept the buckeyes in the game but clearly the refs played an integral part in giving the game to them. So many bad plays. How in the fuck do you give a guy forward progress(even if he did cross and not take a measurement for it by the way) when he hits his own guy and then falls on his ass clearly a yard behind the first down marker. I'd say he pretty much forfeited his position when he fell backwards himself. You've got to be fucking kidding me. Seriously, I'm coming to The Game next year in buckeye gear and am going to confront these gentlemen the way I believe is right and then run. Someone fill me in where the exit is where they leave the stadium. Someone needs to put an end to this bullshit. I'm serious. I'm not a Michigan alum and none of you guys know my face, although you might after it happens!!!

Search the overhead camera angle. He made it to the 15 yard line. Whining about the one call they got right makes it sound like we are a bunch of sore losers and takes away from all the calls that were blatantly against us. If I knew how to add a picture I would. Of course they didn't show that view during the game, so maybe the Big Ten photoshopped the picture before releasing it. The no call PI in the second ot on third down was more obvious than PI calls against us.

About it being overturned. I thought he was short and clearly short. But they were adamant it should be overturned. And they were all fans of other programs with zero vested interest in the game. I just felt they will never overturn it because of the dumb rule about it needing to be 100% undisputable is why I thought no way it's overturned. But again I thought he clearly hit the lineman at the Los and his head and shoulders were over but the ball was not. Nevertheless, no way they were not giving the spot against osu. They literally had every single call go their way.

but with that big a discrepancy in calls in a rivalry game, and obvious PI's (our recievers getting straight up tackled before the throw) not being called, the whole thing was fishy.

The Ohio High School Ref fucked us big time.  Just disgusting, but we all know Urban will do what ever is needed to win.

Can be allowed to officiate in this game is criminal. I think he may have been the one to flag harbaugh for throwing his play card in the air and said it was because it's a penalty in basketball.... What the fuck?!?! Regardless, a dude from Ohio is clearly biased towards osu. So shameless.

as someone with a family member that officiates, you'd be embarrassed to know that many of these guys have reffed high school on Fridays and that the league has a poor program for referee development.  He described it as a glad-handing, politicking mess with no intent to create good officials, only to 'keep games safe'.

I trust his opinion on the state of officiating more than any other, though I appreciate that doesn't mean that you should.

Seriously? How is that guy supposed to live if he calls foul on plays. Why would B1G do that is beyond me. At the minimum they could have brought in a guy with no local ties. If this was officiated one-sided favoring Michigan, the cool Meyer will not be cool. Their fans and the media would be outraged. I blame this on B1G and lack of respect for the schools, players and fans.

It's simple. The refs knew they called it wrong on the field, but it was close enough that they could say the "call stands". They didn't want their call to end the game and chose to escape that shit stink stadium with their lives rather than get it right. How Michigan seems to end up on the losing end of more of these calls is beyond me.
