I see Eli getting the same minutes as the other two guards but he lacks the consistency as a passer or the size for a Howard 2 guard.  I really think he becomes the guy coming off the bench for either player not starting well.  Certainly a lot of teams in the country that would want 3 seniors with their experience leading teams to victory in the guard rotation (plus some good talent behind them).

Not sure on the metrics either, and I agree Brooks over the last month there was really passing better than in the past.

That said, my eye test was that he consistently under threw or over threw alley oops for years and lacked touch in his passing in to the paint.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan.  I think he is going to be a major part of next season, but he also is an ideal combo guard off the bench. He brings patience and a calm to the team.  It may not be a popular opinion, but I think we go with the prototype college point guard and the prototype NBA 2-guard as starters by the end of next season.

Brown is firmly a wing. I think both Livers (fingers crossed) and Franz would slide over to the two for stretches before Brown would.  Eli Brooks is 1000% a starting guard on the team next season.

Nerv, where have you been his whole career...clearly his Florida academy and Wake Forest coaches were fools for playing him at the 2 or all the services ranking him as a top combo guard.

Meanwhile, you would also be the first coach to put Livers in at the 2 (sure we will have him running around the court guarding Trent Frasier or Joe Weiskamp). Frankly, I also have doubts you want Franz covering either of those guards.

No offense, but this is a dumb take. Well, a little offense I guess.

Why are you putting Livers at the 2 and Brown at the 3 when Brown is clearly a 2 and if anything Livers is a small ball 4?

Seems pretty obvious that the rotation would be

  1. Smith/Brooks
  2. Brown/Brooks
  3. Wagner/Livers
  4. Livers/BJJ
  5. Davis/Dickinson/BJJ

Is it wrong of me to think Mike Smith is Zavier Simpson with better shooting but a worse hook shot?

Mike Smith does play a lot of matador defense though.

I thought more or less the same thing. On the one hand, Childress is pretty crafty so the fact that Smith had trouble with him doesn't worry me for, say, when he has to guard Loyer. Lolyer.

On the other, yeah. His defense didn't look nearly as good as X's. Maybe if he doesn't have to do so much on the offensive end his d will improve?

Eli Brooks is starting... my goodness...  the hate for this guy never ends... Brooks is a great player and you'll see it now that Simpson is gone.

I see Smith coming off the bench. His numbers at Columbia show he can score, which Michigan will need. Plenty of scoring options on the floor with the 1s, not so much with the 2s

Agreed we don't appear on track for a gunner at the 2 but how many teams have their leading 3 point shooter returning at the 4.  This is why I think Brown is the starter at the 2, he makes this a very tall and lanky team with a 2 that averages 6 or 7 rebounds and lots of easy put backs in the paint.
