Visitors this weekend

It's another solid recruiting weekend for Michigan as they bring in Florida linebacker (and Miami commit) Elijah Melendez, a 4-star prospect who's defying the Miami coaching staff in order to take a trip to Ann Arbor. Props go to Brian Jean-Mary for making that one happen.

Michigan is also getting top-100 safety Kainoa Winston (#88 overall in the 247 Composite) on campus thanks to new defensive backs coach Lamar Morgan.

Here's the list of visitors for this week (LINK).

I’d like to imagine some recruits will start committing next week at the spring game and a domino effect may start as it's still kinda early in the process, but times ticking and the class has like 3 commits right now and it’ll get ugly if summer rolls around and we got nothing in the class.

I’m not concerned about it even if we don’t. I just know there’s been some positive momentum with some guys win the past few weeks and wouldn’t be surprised if the staff encouraged them to hold off on announcing until the spring game.

Spring game being on national TV and getting a handful of commits in the immediate aftermath would be a boost of  positive momentum. More impactful than a couple random commits.

Agreed. I was playing on the anxiety that many seem to feel...in April of every year. While we have a new coach, we also won the National Championship with the recruiting methods we've been using. Yes, I know...NIL changes everything blah blah blah.

I'm choosing to continue to bask in our undefeated season for as long as I can. Next fall will arrive soon enough!

I’d like to imagine someone gives me a few million bucks and then someone else does and a bit of a domino effect starts to happen but I’m in my early 40s and times ticking.

We just locked up our staff like two weeks ago. We are a long way from signing day and while yes we won a title, our head coach hasn’t coached a full season yet or put together his own staff and roster so it’s going to take a little time. Would be good to see if we can get a solid core to a class going in spring and summer, and then see what fall brings on the field. Sherrone is an ace recruiter and put together a mostly young staff who should be good as well. Let’s give it a few months

I mean wasn't a large part of that due to NIL? Obviously that needs to be taken into account now, but if NIL wasn't a factor, a good portion of Bennett Warren, Michael Uini, Smith twins, Aaron Chiles and in turn Darien Mayo, Elias Rudolph, Justin Scott, Zaquan Patterson, and Boo Carter end up in this class from what I understood. Kinda sucks that with how our NIL currently stands we will lose battles with players we have superior relationships with

Let’s not forget it was incredibly easy for coaches to negatively recruit M and Harbaugh.  He had flirted very seriously two years in a row with the NFL.  All signs were pointing that by the time the 2024 and 2025 classes get here, Harbaugh was likely to be gone if he got the chance….  And they were correct.

Is Melendez taking visits to other schools in addition to umich? If not that speaks very strongly to michigans chances.

The Indiana crop this year is very strong and we seem in on all of them. Would love to sweep that state this year, but each is a battle with osu.

It would be beyond stupid to let the BBQ at the Big House die—can’t imagine Moore would let that happen.

As for the food, there are places in A2 and the Detroit area that serve good quality BBQ—with the budget that the athletic department has, there’s no excuse for serving lousy food.

I’d imagine there is some sort of limitation on how much can be spent per recruit at an event like that.

With silly restrictions on things like photoshoots during visits and commitment edits for recent commits, I don’t imagine the NCAA would just say “go ahead and cater in four course meals with brisket, ribs and a full assortment of sides.”

The weather in A2 was spectacular on Saturday and this morning looks great too.  Hoping everyone that visited will have a great impression of the program and university.
