College Playoff Top 25

This tells me that the committee believes Michigan really is the cream of the crop, even after the tough loss to the (refs) Spartans.  Or maybe they are just trying to placate Michigan fans for the bullshit we've had to endure against MSU and the past 20 years.

We don't even need them to lose twice.  They just need to lose convincingly to OSU.  In fact, playoff odds are probably better if MSU doesn't lose twice (so OSU with a theoretical two loses would have to go to Indy without a chance at the CFP the way PSU did in 2016).

Conference title odds are better if MSU loses twice, and that's what I want, but don't worry if MSU beats Purdue.

If we win out things will work out the way we want.  Let’s hope the team responds.  They have all the talent they need to do so. I’m fired up for the stretch run.

CFP Poll Observations

  • This is the first time that Clemson has been omitted from the CFP Top 25. This leaves Alabama and Ohio State as the only teams to be in every CFP Poll.
  • Michigan State matched its highest ranking in the poll. The Spartans were No. 3 in the final poll of 2015. MSU is one of 21 teams to ever occupy a spot in the Top 4.
  • Michigan is ranked in the Top 10 of the CFP Poll for the 14th time. This ties the Wolverines with Wisconsin for the 8th most appearances in the Top 10.
  • Michigan’s CFP Poll history under Harbaugh is slightly worse than Georgia and Notre Dame and comparable to Penn State, Wisconsin, LSU and Florida.
  • Since 2015 Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State have dominated the poll. The next tier is Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Georgia, Michigan, Florida, LSU, Penn State and Wisconsin. This is the number of times each of these 11 teams have played each other in regular season and conference championship games. Alabama (14), Clemson (4), Ohio State (18), Oklahoma (2), Notre Dame (8), Georgia (15), Michigan (20), Florida (19), LSU (15), Penn St (16), Wisconsin (14).

I want good things to happen for Michigan. Though I'm rather intrigued how so many people are acting like winning against OSU is the only real obstacle left for Michigan.

PSU just played OSU very tough in Columbus. When PSU lost some games and their QB got injured, that made many Michigan fans feel UM had a better chance to win at PSU.

Though PSU's quarterback is healthy again and they showed against OSU that they're still a decent talented team.

I'm not saying Michigan can't win at Happy Valley, but it just seems like many people on here are disregarding that game.

Al these posts about Msu losing to osu is more than likely going to happen, maybe even Psu beats state. Now the talk of Michigan beating osu I have close to zero faith that happens. I remember watching Michigan beat osu pretty regularly but those days are long gone. I'm to the point now that I don't know what kind of miracle has to happen for this to take place, I hope every year but we all know how many times this has happened over the last 20 years. Pitiful is an understatement!! Harbaugh doesn't have a killer instinct about football anymore, so neither does the team. I would put the chances of them beating osu at less than 1%, that's being generous. He hasn't faired well at road wins against good teams till this season. I hate feeling this way but it's the same thing year after year.

Obviously the committee likes Michigan more than we do. Looking at it objectively, they decided not to fault Michigan too much for a four point loss on the road to the #3 team in the country. That tells you that they probably believe Michigan would've won on a home or neutral field.

In any case, with this kind of ranking Michigan is very much in control of its destiny from here, assuming MSU loses at least once. Do I believe Michigan will win out? Survey says.....nope. They have a great opportunity to go into The Game at 10-1, but that OSU game is a loss until it isn't. But they have the physical opportunity to control what happens to them at this point, something which most of us, including myself, certainly didn't believe would be the case at this point in the season.

If they did manage to win out and pull a rabbit out of their ass by beating OSU, it would be really, really interesting to see what would happen if MSU, OSU and UM were all tied at the top of the division with an 8-1 record. OSU would be out of the CFP picture with two losses, so I have no idea what they'd do between UM and MSU.
