UCF played South Carolina State, a MEAC team which are among the weakest of FCS teams.

They struggled on offense. They took a 12-0 lead on FGs, only scoring 4 TDs on the Bulldogs. They rushed for just a bit over 200 yards.

His post game blubbering following the 1998 Orange Bowl, pleading with the coaches to give Tom Osborne one last National Championship.

Backstory, this was from the 1997 season.  The Nebraska HC, Tom Osborne, had announced his retirement effective after the post-season bowls.  Meanwhile, Michigan crept up the polls from #14 and then went ahead of Nebraska in the polls after Nebraska won a cheating squeeker over Missouri.  Michigan ended the regular season as the consensus #1 and Nebraska was the consensus #2.  Michigan beat Wazzu in the Rose Bowl, then a few hours later the Scott Frost led Nebraska Cornhuskers beat Tennessee.  It was in the aftermath of that game that Frost started shedding tears for good ole coach.

The coaches came through for Tom (Fat Phil Fulmer pulled a fast one) and awarded Nebraska a share of the national championship.

and this, my friends, is why the stupid-ass "preseason polls" actually do matter... a little.

,,,a little less with the playoff.  I think it should be a 6 or 8 team playoff. (if 6 teams, two get a bye)  but.. just win all the games and you'll be fine. :)

A random commenter on a UCF blog thinks UCF will only lose 16-6, but acknowledges the possibility of it being 16-6 the other way.

Clearly this person, whoever it is, knows something we don't... (possibly the uplifting effects of heroin)

I could see UCF trying to capitalize off of some of the weaknesses we saw yesterday. M allowed some chunk plays in 4 and 5-wide formations. If we can't shore that up, UCF could move a little on offense. But they will be overmatched much like Hawaii, and Harbaugh can RPS the shit out of them if he wanted.

49-10.

Jordan Lewis was dinged up for the Hawaii game so he didn't play. With him on the field I see us having less break downs when there are more out wide. He did put up some of the most amazing stats for a corner last year for a reason. Defense can only get better having only one game under their belt with the new defensive system. Offense will not be stopped again. 59-6 victory for the big blue.

I'm fully aware of Jourdan Lewis. It was Game 1 in a new system. I don't think it was a talent deficiency. I'm assuming it was more decision making or communication on coverage and assignments -- things that can get fixed. I don't expect M to have any issues with UCF, I'm just pointing out that their offense might not get completely, totally annihilated next week. I still expect an easy win.

" I'm watching our defense go through the first half, even into the third quarter.. there wasn't even a mistake made. There wasn't an alignment mistake made, (or) a stance alignment mistake."

- Jim Harbaugh

It sounds to me like Jim didn't think they made any mistakes. Am I misreading? Did you see things he missed?

Stribling was targeted on several of those throws, so I'm not sure what the "starters" element has to do with it. And yes, in the grand scheme of that performance, we certainly are nitpicking on that drive. I merely identified it. That change in formation was what finally allowed Hawaii to move. I'm confident Brown and Co. will work to erase those issues, but it was worth noting.
