UM opens -14 vs Oregon State

Submitted by Bigku22 on

Michigan opened up a 14 point favorite vs Oregon State for Saturday. The line quickly shot up to -15.5 within an hour, but has since came back down to 14.

I think there is some value with UM here. Coming off a very public loss, against an undervalued Utah team. Oregon State will be starting a true freshman QB on the road, in Harbaugh's first home game, with a terrible defense, coming off an underwhelming performance against Weber State (final score doesn't show how much they struggled, which helps keep this line down).

I think this line should be close to 17, and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets there. Small wager on UM at 14.

But how are Harbaugh's teams as home favorites?  That's more meaningful than looking at how our old coaches  did against the spread.

I can see us covering here.  Oregon State is mediocre, they're making a very long road trip (and it's a noon game, which is tough for them with the time change), and they're starting a freshman QB.   There's also going to be extra energy in the crowd compared to a typical noon game, as it's Harbaugh's home debut.

OSU @ Virginia Tech (+14)

Hawaii @ OSU (-38)
NTM @ Wisconsin (-31)
Wazzu @ Rutgers (-5.5)
Minnesota @ Colorado State (+5)
Oregon @ MSU (PK)

Doesn't look like they have anything for specific books up yet aside from Wynn on the bigger games. Bovada didn't have much yet either.

Neglected to check 5dimes, I'll have to take a look at BetOnline. I used to post a weekly thread when they were all out, but I rarely bet myself.

I did run into a story recently about a new sports betting platform running on the blockchain that was really interesting, but would quickly venture places we don't go here.

Yes, I've used them before. My only issue with bovada is they are usually the last to post lines. They are very risk adverse so they wont post the early line, they wait until the initial betting wave is over and then post more of a consensus line. The bonus they have running now is 100% deposit bonus (deposit $100 get a free play for $100). But it will come with rollover requirements, meaning you have to bet a certain amount before you can withdrawal (see site policy for specifics). Overall, good site one of the better ones but not for me cause i like to try and take advantage of the opening lines.

I'd like to see Michigan show they can make a big play before I gave up 2 tds to anyone.

Hoping Ian Bunting breaks out soon. Harbaugh wants to run 2 TE sets, and it'd probably be best for Rudock as well.

That would be comforting, but if Michigan made those plays or beat Utah, this spread would be closer to 17-21, not 14. Oregon State is one of the worst Power 5 conference schools, and this will be a freshman QB making his first start on the road against a good defense.

As long as our offense isn't completely stagnant, we should win by multiple scores.
