Second in the conference in pass blocking, which is a surprise. Onwenu is our best pass blocker? Also a surprise.

Tough to put a lot of stock into that.  They cite the fact that we don't give up many pressures on passing downs as a positive, but that doesn't really take into account the fact that much of our passes the first couple games were quick passes to avoid the possibility of any pressure at all.

You have to go based on something, but context can change the numbers quite a bit.

If they perform similar to NW against the top remaining teams on our schedule, we should have some good success.

the one sack we gave up was a result of receivers not getting open. I was very pleased with the pass blocking, and run blocking should continue to improve.

i wonder when we will bring Spanellis in as a jumbo package extra blocker, similar to Ruiz last year

Onwenu has been their best pass-blocker and has yet to allow a sack, hit or hurry this season.

I guess they attributed some of the free runners up the gut to Ruiz instead of Onwenu.

their running backs see an average of just 2.4 yards before contact per carry.

Yikes.

OSU and MSU has some guys on defense that will be a step up from everyone seen post ND up to Gaziano.

Alaric Jackson from Detroit Renaissance, doing good work at Iowa.  We offered him very late, like days before signing day.  Needed a guy after Hamilton bolted to Stanford just four days before signing day.  Biff Poggi was his coach.  How that came about as an absolute surprise was a failure somewhere in the process.

6th in the B1G is nothing to celebrate.  Minnesota and Illinois are currently ahead of us.  Our brutal schedule won't help the rest of the way.  That said, a big part of this grade was the "training" in the SMU game where we clearly decided we were going to run into stacked fronts because we knew we'd win anyway.  The running game has been pretty good, IMO.

I know statistics, science, etc., but ..... this does not seem to pass the eyeball test.  Competent?  Certainly.  Kind of good?  At times, for sure.  Nice job keeping Shea clean against NW?  Yup.  But top 10 in the B10?  Don't see that, at least not yet.

There are only 14 teams in the Big 10, so how much imagination does it take to see us in the top 10--i.e., not in the bottom four--of the conference?

As we've already seen, Nebraska's line is horrible, and Northwestern's is likewise fairly poor.  We're not better than Rutgers?... and MSU (who's evidently struggled on the OL)?  What ten teams would be ahead of us?  "Competent," and "kind of good" at times, would more or less preclude our being in the (roughly) bottom quartile of the conference.

Being our best pass blocker isn't that impressive. Why would defenses target Onwenu to fool on stunts and such when they have much easier targets in Bushell-Beatty and Runyan?

2nd in Pass Pro... Who among us would have not jumped for joy in that stat in August? In all honesty, the Pass Pro has looked better each week.  I think the hope for this season is now down to two factors. Offensive Line and Safety play.  I have confidence in every other facet of our team. WR,TE, QB, LB, Corner, Special teams, D line, all good.  If Michigan can continue to ascend on the Oline and Safety play gets consistent, this could be a special season.

Ed Warriner spoke st Weber’s Monday. He said our OLine has had just one hold and one false start in 5 games. I found that to be eye opening.
