UFR's in the fall

we have a lot of time on our hands and I wanted to mention something to the board that I had my mind on for a while.

I love the effort and quality that Brian brings to the table every week when he does UFR's they are extremely informative.

But is that a hindrance or a help?  I pondered this after our latest buggering against O$U.  During the pressers when they say "Michigan doesn't take the rivalry as seriously as we do."  We all know how they are.

It begs the question:  Are Brian's UFR's a freely accessible scouting report?  Does it give them an unintended advantage?

My thought was what if Brian devoted his UFR efforts to O$U rather than Michigan's?  What if we go into "The Game" with an encyclopedic knowledge of how well the players are performing individually?

It's not so far fetched.  After all they have "michigan mondays".  The analysis isn't on Brian's level (it is pretty funny though).

I saw a few quotes in this forum asking what Michigan's record is in the game since Mgoblog has been running.

Like I said, just something I was thinking about.  Would love to see everyone's opinion.

I always thought the idea that a sports blog would have better information than a crew of paid, dedicated coaching professionals was pretty absurd.

But there have legit been times in the past few years where I have gone through the UFRs and wondered "what the fuck are our coaches doing?"

I come out this way: the idea that opposing coaches could gain more info from reading Brian's UFRs as opposed to their scouting is so preposterous it's super unlikely that anyone will ever try. Which I'm glad for. Because I think it does a too-good job of highlighting our weaknesses.

Ohio State spends nearly 50 million dollars a year on their football program.  I would think they don’t really need MGoBlog’s analysis when they have their own analysts.

I extremely highly doubt that the UFR has any affect whatsoever on OSU scouting Michigan.  OSU has the all-22 tape and a contingent of people with significant experience in breaking down tape.

The UFR is for us as fans to better train ourselves to understand what we're seeing and why plays worked/didn't work.  We have no reason to think it's having an effect on what OSU does.

I posted something very similar in the comments section of one of the UFRs last season.  According to the replies I got, REAL football coaches knowledge of the game goes so far beyond the information in the UFR.  They likened the UFR to a beginners football for dummies.  I was never a football coach so I find the UFRs to be extremely detailed and enlightening.  Apparently if you are anything more than a casual football fan, the UFR is not enlightening.  Fare well my friend.

List of excuses for Michigan’s failures:

Bagmen, Academic Standard/Prestige, Online classes, Weather, and now UFR’s

Have you ever watch Urban Meyer on Fox? They show him a play and he immediately calls out details that Brian’s UFR doesn’t even catch. I therefore bet that Meyer could do an entire UFR in about 25 minutes, and his would be more accurate too

This is unbelievably naive. The level of analysis OSU does on every matchup is 1000x what Brian (no offense) does in UFR.

I love UFRs and voraciously consume it weekly but holy shit Batman...
