1 TE + 1 Watch List + $5.00 = 1 Venti Nonfat Vanilla Latte at Starbucks...
I thnk that well-rated, if untested, TEs coming up in the JH system will frequently make watch lists of this type.
Plus the watch list is 55 long. Saying Wheatley is likely one of the best 55 TEs in the country isn't an unreasonable statement.
How many Power 5 teams even use a true tight end with much frequency? I wouldn't have been surprised if both Bunting and Wheatley made this list considering it's 55 people long. I don't think there are 54 TEs better than either of them
dont understand why every tight end in the country doesnt want to come to uofm... we lost asiasi.... we lost out on that head case chris clark from the east coast going to ucla... we lost out on oj howard going to alabama... and we are in a dogfight for ruckert with osu (a spread offense that does not use the tight end very much)... every tight in the country should want to come here - the damn offense is designed for a good tight end......i just dont get it !!! dont these kids parents help them???
I'm pleasantly surprised he's still here. Thought we might lose him when his dad left - glad he stayed.
That would've been brutal after Asiasi left.
bothered me at all. He's a legacy, his dad went to an NFL job, he already took a redshirt and he was in line for a lot of playing time. There would have to be some serious bad blood between Sr and Harbaugh.
and still has loads of friends and family in the area. No surprise to me that he stayed.
where I felt this bummed for a player leaving early. I really wanted to see what Asiasi could've done in year 2 under Harbaugh!
Justin Fargas is always one that I'm bummed about as well Asiasi.
Playing from the TE Flex. He still has trouble blocking the big DE's.
working hard. It will show.
LOL TJ but no Bunting? I mean, put em both on, but Bunting is the heir to the Butt Throne, not Wheat. Different positions, not that you would expect the media to know anything. Bunting looked really nice in the Orange Bowl, hopefully he can extrapolate that performance into a full season as the #1.
They should both be weapons this fall. TJ is a great kid (as you would expect from his family), and obviously a physical freak. If he's at a really good 265lbs, he will be even more of a threat downfield than he is now, and we will have a couple of towers to play with at the TE spots.
I think Wheatley has the higher ceiling for college and the NFL. His size and speed are off the charts; if he can block reliably then he will probably be the number 1 drafted TE when he decides to move on.
Ian Bunting is awesome too!
Bunting is more in the mold of the modern NFL TE. Bunting is more of a Gronk than TJ is, if you will. A jumbo receiver that catches everything who is sometimes asked to block. I'm sure Wheatley will have a great pro career as well, if he hits his potential here.
I think he has a bigger year than Ty.
Agreed
I know this is the offeason and any #content is good content, but these "Watch Lists" for various awards are entirely meaningless. There are 54 TEs on the Mackey Award watch list this year, meaning that the list contains virtually every returning TE who anyone's heard of.
Hoping to see a breakout season from this guy.
I was most impressed with Eubanks. Eager to see if he can crack the rotation.
