Transfer Portal Day - Open Thread
Where will Hudson Card go? Is ND guaranteed to target a QB to start next year? Whom will Graham Mertz get fired next?
Let the wild speculation begin!
December 5th, 2022 at 11:27 AM ^
We see the players who are entering the transfer portal. When can these players actually sign? Will we start to see today where they are going or is there an official signing period? TIA!
December 5th, 2022 at 11:31 AM ^
we're 13-0, so not much to complain about right? I think we could use an upgrade at middle linebacker. Junior Colston didn't make that Sophomore leap this year to elite or even great. And the jury is still out on Jimmy Rolder. Can he dominate at this level? We need a fast, hyper aggressive inside linebacker in the mold of Devin Bush or David Harris. Dudes that are tackling machines!
December 5th, 2022 at 11:38 AM ^
Good lord have mercy on us all-you should be banned to Bolivia a million times over for this. Colson leads this team in tackles by a very, very, very wide margin. What the hell!!!
December 5th, 2022 at 11:50 AM ^
You should be banned for making a comment I don’t like…the new normal.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
While I agree with the sentiment; ie, just because you say something everyone doesn't agree with shouldn't be a bad thing, saying Colson isn't any good is pretty stupid.
Personally, we have 3 playing right now with Rolder. We have 2 others who get playing time at the end of games. That's fine for depth. And enough to move Mullings to RB imho.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:43 AM ^
Lol the colson comment.. you must be really stupid or you dont watch the games.
Colson is fast and is the best tackler on the team
December 5th, 2022 at 11:44 AM ^
No doubt we could use more linebacker depth. But your evaluation of Junior Colson is pretty harsh considering he was a unanimous all-conference selection this season.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
Coldwater,
Have you shared this opinion with Seth? Can you explain what Seth (and the voters for all conference) are getting wrong that you see?
bring some analysis. Cite statistics and provide examples. Maybe use gifycat to show what you see.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
The only thing worse than a dumb opinion is someone else telling the author of said opinion to "cite statistics and provide examples'.
Look, we watch the games, most of us, we are entitled to opinions without writing a term paper.
Besides, Seth is pretty hard on Colson. He does add the caveats that Colson has a real hard job, but I keep expecting a cyan some day.

Tuck once again not being in a bowl means he can focus on the transfer portal to strike gold.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:19 PM ^
I don't think he focuses much on gameplanning anyway
December 5th, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
He should go after that Clemson QB who’s name I can’t pronounce or spell
December 5th, 2022 at 11:35 AM ^
Wish list:
Fentrell Cypress - sounds like we'll need a CB opposite of Will Johnson next year and it would be cool to keep the Virginia to Michigan grad transfer pipeline going.
Miles Hinton - because we should have gotten him in the first place.
Braelon Allen - third on the list because I have big hopes in my heart Corum comes back for his Heisman revenge tour.
Decoldest Crawford - Decoldest
December 5th, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
Decoldest Wolverine...sounds nice.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:44 AM ^
Fudge is in the portal.

There are intimations on the Twittersphere that a couple of WR’s might bounce as well. I saw suggestions of Wilson, Henning and Andrel. Any thoughts? At first blush if more targets is the desire then you can’t blame them but man to play and have the Michigan Family Experience with the roll they are on seems to be a great opportunity as well. I really thought with JJ back there. Wilson would thrive from the RPO perspective. Andrel has dropped a few of his opportunities. I also thought AJ was hurt, but I noticed he was returning punts and not kick off the last couple of weeks. It will be interesting to see how it turns out The next few days.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:55 AM ^
Insiders confirmed Andrel is coming back. I wouldn't understand Wilson since he is a top 3 WR. Henning got some run at WR this year and it did not go well at all. Punt returning seems to be his only niche on the team. If they leave, it seems like when all the LB's transferred because Colson and NHG were already passing them. I assume Clemons, Morris and Walker are all pushing and ready to go next season.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:55 AM ^
I can see Anthony, Dixon, and Henning. Wilson is slated to be a starter. Wilson is going to be the veteran among a young WR corps next year.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:03 PM ^
Ronnie Bell porting directly to the NFL!
December 5th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
Not to be a dick, but I don't care if any of the starting WRS come back 😬
December 5th, 2022 at 12:08 PM ^
1) If you have to start a comment like that, you are what you say you are.
2) Get out of here with that negativity. Every single guy on this roster has given it their all and has proven that this team is a family. If someone chooses to move on, happy trails and best of luck to them. If they choose to stay, they already know what they have and what they're striving for with only room to improve.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
Lol whatever. The younger guys are probably better and I prefer that. 🤡🤡
December 5th, 2022 at 2:56 PM ^
Correct, you are a clown.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:08 PM ^
Henning wouldn't surprise me at all. The other two would, unless they think they're going to be passed by younger guys. Wilson seems to have a pretty important role, though reduced in the second half of the year.
Henning wouldn't surprise me because he's good with the ball in his hands but his receiving activity has been close to nonexistent for two years. He scored the TD against OSU last year and then barely took a snap for the rest of the game, and the guy playing instead moved to DB the next year. He was overshadowed by other receivers this year, too. Whether it's blocking or routes or hands, it is honestly getting a bit late for him.
This is all rumor stuff, though. I thought we were going to lose receivers last year and we didn't. I thought losing Giles Jackson was a real problem, and it wasn't. So I'll just wait and see.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
Good points SJK! I absolutely love the team as it has been constructed. All of the guys seem to be team first guys for the most part. With that being said, I really don’t have a problem with a young man looking for another opportunity. We all do that with careers and what not. I wish all of them nothing but the best. This has been the best two-year stretch of Michigan Football that I can remember. Nothing but love, and will support the heck out of those guys if they do leave with the exception of only if we play them.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
I've seen AJH pop up in my Twitter feed for liking a few tweets saying that he's being underutilized.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:12 PM ^
I can see Dixon and AJ Henning taking off...but I would be very surprised if AA and Roman leave.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
Still waiting for Xavier Worthy to come home . . .
December 5th, 2022 at 1:52 PM ^
Anthony wouldn't surprise me one bit. Dude ran cardio all year and never complained. He deserves to go a place where he'll get the ball.
December 5th, 2022 at 11:51 AM ^
Jay Butterfield
🤔
December 5th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
Any relation to Tyrone? We could use a clutch pass-dropper for our two-minute offense.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:16 PM ^
Underrated comment!
I don’t think the downvoter got it.
+1 to you!
December 5th, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
I remember Tyrone Butterfield and I don’t get the reference. Will you educate me?
December 5th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
He dropped a pass short of the end zone with time running out in the 1995 Michigan - Virginia "Kickoff Classic" game.
It was a blessing in disguise because it stopped the clock and allowed for the walk-off Dreisbach-to-Mercury Hayes touchdown that won the game.
There is still some debate as to whether he dropped it on purpose or not. I was there and it looked like an actual drop, at least to me.
Also . . . it was hot as hell.
December 5th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
I was at that game but could never tell you the play before the pass.
thanks for this.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
We need a clone for Olu.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
Is there a place to see which of our guys are going into the portal (not just rumors)? That would tell me more about who we should target.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:48 PM ^
Not sure how much in real time this is but, here you go!
December 5th, 2022 at 12:48 PM ^
don't google "exploring the portal" take my word for it.
December 5th, 2022 at 12:58 PM ^
I would not mind getting a senior or grad QB who was or is a starter with a good skill set as a possible backup to JJ next year. I know we have some young guys but I think our next starting QB will be recruited in 2023.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:29 PM ^
JJ’s last year is next year. Even if Jaydn Davis goes Blue, we’ll need a 1-2 year starter.
Maybe Butterfield, recall we recruited him hard the year we got Villari….
December 5th, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
I hear Rick Sanchez is in the portal. He's sick of Tucker's bullshit.
December 5th, 2022 at 1:57 PM ^
We are losing players and not gaining any. I hope this turns around. I would like to pick up a DE, OL, WR, DB, and a good QB to back up JJ next season.
December 5th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
Portals been open for what? Less than a day?…….R E L A X…..
December 5th, 2022 at 2:45 PM ^
That and we have lost an injured/backup QB, an injured TE, and a TE so buried on the depth chart even Harbaugh forgot he was there.
It is disappointing the dream TE combo of All and Loveland won't happen but we will be fine. I do think we may look to add another TE via portal.
December 5th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
This will be the case until we address our credit transfer issue. We are limited to grad transfers mostly.
December 5th, 2022 at 10:22 PM ^
Lol, a bit OT, but remember when Cullen Christian made everyone wait two hours through his announcement ceremony for him to actually announce where he was going?
