Towsley Museum Not Open This Year (Schembechler Hall)
I called the Athletic Dept. today to see if the museum was going to be open this season, as it was closed last year, and they said no, not opening this year at all. Which is a huge disappointment in my opinion. It is something that I have wanted to take my kids to. The person who answered did not know why...
Just wanted to let everyone know as an FYI leading up to gameday experiences.
I'm assuming they're not doing a season poster like last year as well?
I actually saw them deliver some schedule posters to the Athletic Department offices today. They get distributed internally and if there are extras, they will end up at the ticket office
They are not planning on reopening it anytime soon, if ever.
That's a shame. My soon-to-be 8-year old hasn't been to the Big House since he was 2.5 (which he obviously doesn't remember). I had planned to take him by Schembechler Hall the next time we're able to make it to a game.
Why?
Seems silly to keep fans out of it permanently. I understand if there are times that it doesn't work. This is just another example of the AD being out of touch with the fans.
What is the point of having a museum if you won’t allow people to visit?
That’s the 1st question that comes to mind.

Can you ask some questions about this publicly? I would love to know the reasons, as I think this is really a miss by the athletic dept.
The museum needs to relocate to Central Campus then. I can understand not wanting to have the public near the Football facility, but there should be a museum accessible to the Public, year round.

Was just checking out their website and saw the retired jersey section. I kind of forgot we did that. Given that we do - how have we not retired Charles Woodson's jersey?

Starting to think this has less to do with COVID, remodels and whatever other reasons the AD has given for its closure the past few years... and more about the continued controversy regarding the name on the building.
