My favorite was the NFL Red Zone commentator showing Brady giving his sideline hat to a little kid in the front row and the kid was so happy he was crying

NFL Red Zone guy:  'Certainly a special moment for that little guy.  Of course, he may be crying because Brady is the oldest person to have ever talked him him not named grandpa'

The guys who actually bothered to be critical of Fields questioned his tools...he has a long wind-up and delivery.  There were rumors about his work ethic also that Ryan Day loudly disputed, but doesn't mean they weren't true.  Say what you want about it being early in his career, but QB's that have "it" show it very quickly. It's why people are out on Tua, after a half a season.  Justin Herbert...Joe Burrow...those guys have it. Even Trevor Lawrence, despite bad horrible coaching, shows some things that make you say wow...Kyler had it...Dak had it when he just came in...

But let me ask this:  What QB failed to impress in year one and then turned out to be signicantly better than everyone thought?

I would say Jared Goff...kinda.  HORRIBLE under Jeff Fisher, immediately better under McVay...but probably won't be back in Detroit next year.  Other than that...most of these guys are who we thought they were.

Yeah but none of those guys played for the Bears who haven't had a decent team, much less quarterback, in years. They're a terrible team with a terrible coach and their O Line sucks. I'd defend any rookie qb in this situation, even one from Ohio State.

The offense that they are running now is not the same scheme they ran under Meyer or Tressel. Nobody ever expected QBs like Pyror, Braxton Miller, JT Barrett etc. to be NFL QBs. Ohio State's QBs failing in the NFL 20 or 30 years ago in different systems and under different coaches isn't a predictive metric.

Your argument was accurate four years ago, but their system changed when Day took over the offense. I don’t think Urban Meyer ever landed a five star qb at OSU.

That all changed with Day. He’s coached three QB’s at OSU, two were first round picks and the other looks like the best QB in the Big Ten and you want to know why five star qb’s want to play for him. Seriously?

They’re “idiotic” only if you think playing at OSU is stunting their growth somehow. But I don’t think Fields would be a substantially better NFL QB if he went somewhere else. He just has a talent set more suited to the college position.

If an elite QB recruit wants to play with a bunch of 5 stars, compete for national titles and be prepped for a career in the NFL they should look first to Bama, Oklahoma, or even Clemson based on what they've put in the league recently.

There are hits and misses everywhere, but OSU NFL QB's seem to be only misses.

Clemson produced Watson and Lawrence seems to be improving weekly.

Bama has Mac Jones and Tua who seem to be progressing in the league.

Oklahoma obviously has Baker, Hurts and Murray.

It's insane that not 1 of these OSU QB's over their past 20 years of elite college football has worked out in the NFL.

It is unusual, certainly, but ... are you guys suggesting that Ohio State's "system" doesn't change from one coach to the next? That a player shouldn't come for Ryan Day -- who's been the head coach for less than two full years -- because no Buckeyes who played for John Cooper in the 1990s made all-pro?

Hell, what about the fact that they're guaranteed to play in the college playoffs, get maximum visibility, and end up drafted in the top half of the first round, making serious bank? And how much did that high school stud Shea Patterson "develop" at Michigan? If I was a parent, that might be of even greater concern than the guy who, after a few years at OSU, signed a contract for $18 million dollars.

Fields may or may not end up a great quarterback. But don't tell me he wasn't "developed" at OSU. God I hope some day Harbaugh can do something similar here at Michigan.

Bama was winning championships with QBs who did nothing in the NFL until they changed the style of their offense. Look at any of their QBs between 2007 and 2016. Ohio State runs a different offense under Day than they did before and each of his two QBs has been drafted in the first round. One didn't work out and the other is a rookie in his second or third start.

To be honest, you go to OSU you get to play for championships basically every year. You don’t have to play school then you get drafted and make a few million fizzle out hold a clip board for 3 or 4 teams as a backup after that you have probably don’t end up with CTE because you only start a season or two then you are out of the league by 30 years old and can wake up every morning and do whatever the fuck you want to do because you don’t need to punch a clock for anyone and you’re completely rich in obscurity. Yeah you’re not going to be talked about in the same sentence with Tom Brady but that sounds like a pretty good life to me. OSU maybe a system and doesn’t develop QB’s but they get them into the league where $30,000 a month is minimum wage. I hate OSU as much as anyone on this board but if that lifestyle was a choice for me I would damn sure jump on that opportunity without giving it a second thought. There’s only 32 starting job opportunities every year in the NFL. Only the best of the best can survive more than 4-5 years at it. That’s why it stands for Not For Long. If you can’t hack it you will always have some great college memories and accomplishments and a lifestyle that 90% of people can only dream of. I would say all in all it’s really not that bad to be an OSU QB bust. But that’s just my thoughts on it.

Your box score doesn't include the part where Justin Fields fumbled 3 times, losing 2 of them.  5 turnovers for him overall... brutal.

I hate osu but fields will be good. He’s big, he’s fast, and he has a big arm. This year will be a struggle, but I see him being pretty good and ending the osu nfl drub. Not gonna be tommy but I think he’ll be fine

Big, fast, and big arm aren’t enough in the NFL. I can’t really make a prediction with him. I’d say 50/50 depending on if he’s able to read defenses, anticipate open receivers, and make decisions fast. So far he has not shown the ability to do those things. To be fair, neither did Josh Allen his first year.

He might be a Josh Allen, he might be a Josh Rosen, or he might be something in between.

Bears Fan, he has a lot of potential. The O-Line is garbage. Coach stinks. GM stinks too. I will say Nagy knew Fields would get killed, but Dalton getting hurt forced his hand. But honestly he didn’t plan a game plan for Fields in the offseason.

Listen, I get it, we want OSU QB’s to fail, but lets stop acting like Michigan has pumped out studs the last 20 years. Aside from Brady most Michigan QB’s have been average starters or career backups. But that’s the average for most schools. Look at the USC QB’s recently…Hell Vince Young washed out in the NFL.

Brady throws his 600th NFL TD pass, & the receiver celebrates by jumping up & giving the ball to a fan in the stands. They showed a graphic with 20 NHL players with 600 goals, 9 MLB players with 600 homers, & 1 NFL QB with 600 TD passes. Tampa sent over a rep to negotiate the return of the ball, he got it back for Tom. Gave the guy a different game ball & who knows what else for it. That fan gave back a valuable piece of football history.
