Today's Schedule of Games
It’s October in college football land. This is when teams start to separate themselves into title contenders and fall-by-the-wayside illusions. And there are several games today that will do just that.
Here are some of today’s highlights:
At Noon on ABC: #12 Oklahoma at #3 Texas. The big game of the day. The winner has the inside track to the CFP given the remaining schedules, although there could be a rematch in the division-less Big 12’s title game. If Texas wins, they will likely become ranked #1 and they will have deserved it. I’m cool with that, I don’t want Michigan to be ranked #1 during the regular season. Let somebody else deal with that circus while we stay focused and hungry. So, who do I think will win? Let me put it this way, we’ll all wake up on Monday morning with #1 ranked Texas in college football.
Also at Noon on FOX: Maryland at #4 Ohio State. Time to find out which of these teams is for real (if either). Maryland usually gives Ohio State fits, and they are built to do it again. They will be chasing Taulia ghosts all over the field today. But unfortunately, I don’t think that Maryland has enough defense to cash in on that. Ohio State will outrace the Terps to the finish line.
In the Afternoon at 3:30 PM on CBS: #11 Alabama at Texas A&M. This would make an awesome night game, but alas it’s not to be. Nonetheless, it will be a crazy environment at College Station. Jimbo Fisher has pulled off the upset before in College Station over Alabama (the first Saban former assistant to do it). Can he do it again in a game that will determine the SEC West leader? I hope so, but I don’t think so. Alabama has not looked like Alabama, but overlook them and their ocean of 5-stars at your own risk. Jalen Milroe will be the difference maker in a 4th quarter win.
In the Evening at 7:00 PM on ESPN: #20 Kentucky at #1 Georgia. Pssssst Kentucky: Double-cover Brock Bowers at all times, all game long. No charge for that incisive, cutting-edge coaching advice. It’s what I do, I give back to college football. You’re welcome. Despite that expert advice, it probably still won’t be enough. I think that Georgia has an extra gear they have not been showing. It will turn up tonight and Georgia will win.
At 7:30 PM on NBC/Peacock: #2 Michigan at Minnesota. A lot of people thought that Nebraska would be a trap game for Michigan (Hi Urban! Oh, and suck it.) But I didn’t think so due to it being our first road game, against a Big Ten foe with a tricky offensive and defensive scheme to prepare for. They had our undivided attention. But this Minnesota game does feel like a trap game. There is just nothing to get excited about against this Gophers team. I am actually glad it is a night game, at least the lively environment will help keep the team awake. Defense travels (and a strong running game too), and we’ll be glad we have both after Minnesota gives us a punch in the mouth early. But then wake up we will, and take the Jug back into hiding.
At 7:30 PM on ABC: #10 Notre Dame at #25 Louisville. I gotta feel sorry for Notre Dame having to go on the road again at night to face a talented, motivated, dangerous team after the nail-biting emotional wringer they have just been through against Duke, and against Ohio State the week before that. Hah! Just kidding. The hell with Notre Dame. Their luck runs out tonight against Louisville.
Finally, your Pac-12 After Dark Special - meaningless crazy football just for the fun of it:
At 10:30 PM on ESPN: Arizona at #9 USC. If you just watch USC’s offensive drives, they look like the best team in college football by far. But then, hoo boy, you watch their defense. How can a team that can collect that much talent on offense have that much deficiency on defense? It boggles the mind. They are the anti-matter Iowa. When USC and Iowa meet for the first time in 2025 it could be an extinction-level event for the entire planet the first time Iowa is on offense and USC is on defense. However, none of that will matter late tonight because Arizona isn’t out-scoring USC’s offense no matter what USC’s defense does.

TERPSDOWN!
On a very Wilson-esque catch.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:17 PM ^
TD Maryland. This game ain't going to be easy for OSU.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:17 PM ^
Also, OSU's corner after being beaten trying to wrestle the ball out of the receiver's hands even as the refs are counting the six is hilarious. Good lord is this OSU team a bunch of fake tough guys.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:17 PM ^
Correction second best catch of the season. Go Terps
October 7th, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
No better sound than silence coming from the worlds largest toilet bowl
October 7th, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
Mizzou goes right down the field on LSU's shit defense, then gets a two point conversion out of the swinging gate.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
Mizzou has a really good passing attack and LSU's defense is atrocious against the pass. They've got good individual pieces but their execution this year has been bad especially in a league that doesn't have a lot of good QBs.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
OSU looking extra TUFF to start this game
October 7th, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
Pressure is on McCord now
October 7th, 2023 at 12:19 PM ^
So idk if it is a Hulu or Fox issue but the last two weeks the quality of the Fox broadcast has been complete ass. Just a pixelated mess of a picture.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:20 PM ^
Fox has been awful on Fox's site the last two weeks.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
It's honestly bad enough to be distracting. I don't get how consistent good quality in the year 2023 isn't the standard, it's kind of ridiculous.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:20 PM ^
McCord with a turnover will unravel OSU. Make it happen MD
October 7th, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
Ewers is having a tough time today.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
UT's OC is down after giving up a sack. Will be 3rd and 12...
October 7th, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
This OSU team is --- defiinitely not as mentally tough as they were in the Urban era. What the heck is this? All the below in just 2+ minutes of play?
- Passing the ball on 3rd-and-2.
- The relative "panic" of calling a fake punt 1 minute into a game?!?!?
- The CB trying to wrestle the ball away from MD for 30 seconds after it was called a touchdown.
Seriously, what is this? This is honestly not normal.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
They feel absolutely like a team that reads all the blog posts, the tweets, everything said about them and tries to refute it. I get that coaches try to use external forces to shape their teams to an extent but at some point it feels like you're telling on yourself if you're reacting too much instead of being proactive.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:36 PM ^
I think you're right.
Truly confident folks are called "soft" and they silently say "Fuck you, I still got a lot going for me, but I do have to go out and do it."
I've always defaulted to "they'll succeed, they'll be 11-1 at worst, they have too much talent not to" as regards OSU. But the start of this game has me questioning that.
I may regret this when OSU is undefeated in mid-November, but man, this team may truly implode as early as this afternoon. It feels like it's coming.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:30 PM ^
I think you probably have to live in Ohio to appreciate how those "soft" comments are tormenting the entire program from head coach to fan.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:22 PM ^
Also, OSU is down Henderson and I wonder if that affects their playcalling since he's a big part of their passing game as well as their running one.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
Meh, Trayanum and Williams are both REALLY good RBs, I don't buy that as an excuse for them.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:22 PM ^
Good job from Trayanum to get something from the absolutely NOTHING that OL gave him.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
He's their best back. Also they just converted a 3rd and short!
October 7th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
OSU does a fake punt on 4th and 2 and gets stuffed. Seems tough to me….
October 7th, 2023 at 12:24 PM ^
That is the kind of thing an underdog does.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:26 PM ^
And definitely the kind of thing Michigan wouldn’t do. Harbaugh would have smelled blood when the 1st play rushed for 8yds.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:25 PM ^
That stadiums so quiet you could hear a fart.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
That would make Ohio smell better
October 7th, 2023 at 12:26 PM ^
Drone timeout.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:26 PM ^
HotelPutin at the game?
October 7th, 2023 at 12:26 PM ^
What’s up with all the Pat Macafe? Tired of this guy being shoved down my throat.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
He's popular with...let's say internet tough guys.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:26 PM ^
Oh Maryland, this pleases me. Don’t change a thing.
Except please catch punts
October 7th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
Sacked on 3rd and 10!!! Punt, Mr Tuffguy!!!
October 7th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
OSU's offensive line is being handled by Maryland's front 4 right now. And this isn't some insane defensive line.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:29 PM ^
Maybe they're not tough? IDK
October 7th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
McCord: 1 for 6.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
McCord ain't it
October 7th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
OSU is looking like a pretty tough team so far.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:29 PM ^
They have Harrison. I cannot understand how they are not able to dismantle MD. He had plenty of time on that third down but nobody was open.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
Because McCord just may be left handed and doesn’t know it.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:28 PM ^
Lucky there MD. Almost screwed it up.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:30 PM ^
I'm loving that Maryland is making it competitive but I think that's why they're ultimately going to lose. They'll do some Bad Taulia or some Bad Special Teams things and OSU will be talented enough to capitalize. But man I'm enjoying the silence in Columbus right now.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:28 PM ^
ohio fans in denial
October 7th, 2023 at 12:28 PM ^
SACK TERPS
October 7th, 2023 at 12:28 PM ^
McCord not great
October 7th, 2023 at 12:29 PM ^
So also getting picture glitches with the OU and Texas game. Like jesus can these broadcasts get their shit right, this is ridiculous.
October 7th, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
I have Apple TV and I can’t even watch it unless I pay for ESPN3
October 7th, 2023 at 12:29 PM ^
Go Terps! What a catch.
Is something wrong w Gus Johnson? He cant follow the ball today. Does he have a drinking problem? Bad announcing...
October 7th, 2023 at 12:35 PM ^
I think that second job as a front desk worker at the hotel is wearing him out.
