The definition of an underdog isn't only being less talented than the other team.  A genuine underdog is seen as an overmatched team that the favorite is likely to undervalue and not take seriously.  That will NEVER be Michigan.  Even during the RR and Hoke days, opponents still came in over prepared and ready to play.

Ol Saint Nick ain’t gonna overlook this Michigan team.

I wonder if Mattison's departure has hurt D-line recruiting.  He was supposed to be a good recruiter and his pressers always seemed to be of the type where if you were a parent, you'd trust your kid to him.

I'd really like the back story of what went down between Mattison and Harbaugh/Brown.

Coaching and sometimes a little luck. Few understand the profound difference coaching makes. Sometimes you need a little luck to get the train rolling but when you get the talent rolling in and you know what to do with it...life is good. Even elite talent will struggle without good coaching. It take two to do the winning dance.

Not surprising to anyone paying attention but extremely dissapointing none the less. Hard to recruit elite players when you keep getting blown out the last game of the year.

Our rolling average over any reasonable period is outside the top 10 AND we don't hold on to our highly rated guys AND our classes are poorly balanced with respect to the positions of need.

"Her dur... top 10 classes!" is the stupidest and laziest take possible when it comes to recruiting.

I'm not usually a negative person about this, but the reason we get top classes isn't due to the high star players we get, it's the sheer number of them. Our classes are generally large and a large class of 3*s will be higher ranked than a small class of 4*s.  Seems like they rate them by total rather than average.  Look at the 2020 team rankings.  A&M is 5 with 20 recruits, 91.13/269.09 vs. #6 UGA with 15 at 93.95/268.33.  Which class would you rather have?  Top 5 A&M or #6 UGA?

Volume does wonders.  Last years so called #1 in the B1G class was #3 on a per player average being slightly edged out by PSU and a full point per player behind OSU.  2018 they were more than 5 points per player better. 2017 more than 3 points per player. As things stand now they are 2 points per player better this year.  Thus the last Saturday in November you get a butt whooping.
