Sunday Afternoon Playoff thread

Submitted by Gobgoblue on

Cincinatti goes to Indy at 1:05 EST today to kick things off, then

the Lions visit the Cowboys at 4:40.

As a Lions fan, I don't like our chances.  The boys are rolling right now.

My prediction is the Colts and Cowboys move on.  Hope I'm wrong on the second one.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!  School doesn't start up again for Mich until Wednesday, so I am sipping on some Sam Adams seasonal beers.  Cheers!

the Lions did little offensively to win it in the 2nd half.  But that doesn't in any way excuse the way the game was officiated.  That picked-up flag on what would have been a PI penalty in any other game in any other venue at any level was one of the worst robberies I've ever seen.

jumping up and down in Jerry Jones box like a teenager. I guess because there ain't nothing going on sprts-wise in Jersey.  Or Texas simply has more electoral votes than Michigan.

[hopefully, sufficiently apolitical]

This game will go down on Lions infamy. This will always be known has the pass interference game. The refs stole this win. Before this game and during this game all I heard Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboys. At half you would have thought someone died. It was the Boys moving on and that's it. The NFL got what it wanted. I'm not usually that guy, but the fix was in. Period. My eyes don't lie.

Honestly though Stafford is the younger version of Romo, you just dont know when he will have angood game..unless Lions get an elite QB or a guy who has pottential then they will never go far enough. Stafford is who he always has been since college..inconsitent.
The sad part is that this was the most complete Lions team I have seen in years defense and offense.

Playcalling, offensive line play, and Stafford inconsistency were all significant factors in what was rather a pedestrian offense consideirng the money invested. Joe Lombardi has to go as do. Bonamego, the special teams coach, also has to go. Two biggest reasons why the Lions didn't win the division in my opinion.

The sad thing is next year looks to be a gloomy one without Austin and potentially Suh. Caldwell has to find  top quality DC and OC's if they Lions are to progress.

The offense sucks (6 points after 1st two drives), so let's put those 4th down chips on the offense instead of the defense.

Now I would have gone for it, but punting was a reasonable decision.  No reason to call the coach that won the most games since 1991 a vagina.

Unfortunately, after the delay of game penalty, the ensuing punt went 10 yards for a net of 5.  In hindsight, had we gone for it and not made it, we would have sacrificed only 5 yards.

I'm a centrist repub (agnostic, social liberal, fiscal conservative) who donates quite a bit to the elephants.

No fucking way am I giving to Christie after seeing him blow Jerrah.

Heck, I'm just surprised the league waited until the 4th quarter to put the fix in.  Figured they could have started early.

That said, the Lions did this to themselves.  There was no aggressiveness in the playcalling in that second half, and you can't expect your defense to shut down Dallas for the whole game.  The Cowboys look immensely overrated right now, but the Lions didn't help themselves.
