It used to be truth and that epitomizes the sad state of general discourse these days. Lament the days of being able to agree to disagree with your neighbor. It sucks that this is where we are on the whole (thankfully it’s not the 100% case).

And this asshat can eat a bag of d!cks.

I almost started a thread about this but didn’t want to. But serious question, the NCAA has no power over the playoffs. So if Michigan wins it, and let’s just say they vacate their “wins” from this year,  they can’t vacate the National Championship, correct?

Edited* Well, I’m with ya, but per NCAA rules even if coaches didn’t know about it, it still falls under the umbrella of Jim is responsible. I mean the whole thing is ridiculous, and quite frankly if they win the whole thing, I won’t care if they “vacate” it. But not even sure they can because they don’t govern the playoffs

Now that this is out there, there is absolutely no excuse for any team to allow michigan to steal their signs from previous games. If they win out against the meat of their schedule, it'd be hard for someone to seriously think they only did so by stealing signs from deciphered information that was obtained illegally earlier in the year. If they steal signs, its going to be from the old school way of doing it. Maybe they used signs to beat 30 point under dogs. That seems unlikely. So in my mind anything accomplished championship wise will be legit regarding signs.

Exactly. This will be the deciding factor among court of public opinion. If Michigan wins out in the same fashion they have over inferior competition beats Penn State & OSU none of this will matter.

But if they somehow struggle vs MSU/Purdue the noise will be unbearable.

I predict Michigan will continue to pound their opponents even worse, if that's possible.

Stealing signs is part of the game and not against the rules; it doesn’t matter if the coaches received input from Stalions.  The alleged rules violation involves Michigan sending staff to opponents’ games (not at Michigan Stadium) with the specific assignment to scout them in person.  To sustain the allegation, the NCAA needs to prove  (1) staff attended the opponent’s game in person, (2) staff scouted the opponent while in attendance, (3) Michigan assigned the staff to do (1) and (2).

Exactly which is why I thought it was probably dumb if Harbaugh to make that denial.  I can’t imagine Jim didn’t know what Stalions was doing.

And to be clear I think this whole fake scandal is a joke and should not result in any kind of penalty but because the world hates us we may get hammered.

I guess they would vacate the cupcake games. I'm sure Jim has put an end to this Marine running game film analysis, so games from here on out will not be part of sign gate, if the past games ever were. And we would have still blown these cupcakes out even without this Marine doing game tape analysis. I have no idea who the Marine contacted, one of the D coaches or a GA? It's all just a joke of the NCAA trying to bully Michigan and Harbaugh.

I just hope that Michigan, or Harbaugh, or Stalion will sue ESPN, the NCAA, and these other entities for character defamation.

I expect a lot more considering this whole thing broke roughly within 24 hrs.

Harbaugh and his attorney need to sue the NCAA for defamation and harassment, and collect big to end this crap.  He already has a case IMO.  In both cases (Hamburger Gate and Signal Gate) we've seen the NCAA release information to other groups and making public statements about the case, while preventing Harbaugh from discussing it.  In the current case, they've leaked information before any significant investigation has been done or concluded.  What they are obviously doing is trying to try the case in the court of public opinion which is damaging Harbaugh's and Michigan's reputations.

If he were to ever embody a form of feces in another life, he most certainly would be  white crusty dog shit that is passed over and hoped the mower will dispose of.

I already don’t care about asterisks. I just want to blast MSU, PSU, and OSU and that will work fine.  Vacate it if you must, but it’s going to be spectacular.

Mandel was raised in Ohio. He went to Northwestern, but he's probably an OSU fan to some degree.

It has to suck watching your Medill degree and your craft (such as it is) be devalued a little bit more with each passing year.

I wouldn't read and post every hack who is trying to go hard at UM when those same hacks did shit about shenanigans by UNC, Bama, pick a SEC team or OSU.

He's doing what he's paid to do, which is suck the life out of this story until it reaches zombie status.

I hate this part of sports journalism now. It seems like these writers have to pump out a bunch of stories on a topic from ever so slightly different angles, in such a short time, because our attention span is worse than a goldfish and we'll be onto the next shiny thing Monday morning. Come Monday, the CFB world will be breaking down the OSU-PSU and Alabama-UT games and previewing the first batch of CFP rankings.

Pardon me Stew, I’m a little slow, but can you please explain how a national title this year would be tainted? Let’s be real, Michigan hasn’t played a team that would be competitive even if they had our plays and we certainly didn’t need theirs to win. The only two teams on the schedule that have a chance would be PSU and OSU. I’m certain they will revamp their signals prior to their games with us. After we thump both of them, there will be an asterisk? I don’t think so.
If you want to argue that last year’s games are tainted now, I would entertain the argument. I wouldn’t agree, but I would understand your point, but I completely disagree that this year is somehow tainted. Unless you’re talking about Harbaugh’s suspension. While not something to be proud of, it’s hardly an excuse to call the season tainted.
Tennessee hands a high school recruit an $8 million contract and not a word is mentioned, but we scout an opponent and the ncaa opens an investigation and somehow the season is tainted. What world am I living in?

This is pretty straightforward. This Michigan story is like shooting ducks in a barrel for the media.

But it's all noise and nonsense until we a) actually know what happened, and b) know who knew what when.

As another poster said, I don't even care about asterisks or vacated wins at this point. Watching Michigan play is a joy in itself.
