Stewart Mandel is going hard after this
Stewart Mandel has incredible energy towards seeing this come to fruition. He is approaching the highly annoying stage. Has he always been this obnoxious toward us?
October 20th, 2023 at 10:15 PM ^
HaHa, this guy is ridiculous, ignore the loser.

Success for all media is not truth
it is clicks and ad revenue
have a take that riles people up and (oh look an ad) they write comments (hey look another ad) and get agitated and post/share (yay more ads!)
when the show is a circus you should probably expect a few clowns
October 21st, 2023 at 12:54 AM ^
It used to be truth and that epitomizes the sad state of general discourse these days. Lament the days of being able to agree to disagree with your neighbor. It sucks that this is where we are on the whole (thankfully it’s not the 100% case).
And this asshat can eat a bag of d!cks.
Go Blue! Beat STAEE!

"used to be truth"
Media/journalists have always been able to abuse their platforms. It's not new.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:15 PM ^
Yes, he’s a Michigan troll. Don’t follow him.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:28 PM ^
i mean yes, OTOH, he also picked us to win it all this year and said earlier this week he felt really good about it so...shruggie dot emoji
October 21st, 2023 at 6:47 AM ^
I think it was Bruce Feldman who picked us to win and said he felt good about it on their podcast, not Mandel. Historically Mandel hasn't been a Harbaugh fan, used to leave him out of the top 25 coaches yearly
October 21st, 2023 at 9:48 AM ^
good point.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:37 PM ^
Sad little fucker isn't he?
October 20th, 2023 at 10:15 PM ^
Who is this pud? Never heard of him. Is he another sackless NCAA taint sniffer I can pretend doesn't exist or is he worth bitching about?
October 20th, 2023 at 11:24 PM ^
There was a time (15 years ago or so?) when he was a pretty good college football reporter. The industry changed and he followed suit. It’s unfortunate because I enjoyed his columns a lifetime ago
October 21st, 2023 at 12:37 AM ^
"Bowls, Polls and Tattered Souls" is a really good book. 2007; 16 years ago. Good point.

Yes he is sackless taint sniffer NTTAWWT

Stewart... show me on this Wolverine doll where Jim hurt you...
He's really going full Ohio here
October 20th, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
SI?! Who fucking cares? They became irrelevant years ago (except as a soft-core porn site).
Edit: Oops. Sorry. Even Stew has moved on from SI.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:18 PM ^
Then he’s a stupid cunt.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:20 PM ^
A man of ill-repute indeed!
October 20th, 2023 at 10:18 PM ^
I almost started a thread about this but didn’t want to. But serious question, the NCAA has no power over the playoffs. So if Michigan wins it, and let’s just say they vacate their “wins” from this year, they can’t vacate the National Championship, correct?
October 20th, 2023 at 10:29 PM ^
It seems like it. But, I wouldn't worry about that until they can prove that coaches knew about this.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:33 PM ^
Edited* Well, I’m with ya, but per NCAA rules even if coaches didn’t know about it, it still falls under the umbrella of Jim is responsible. I mean the whole thing is ridiculous, and quite frankly if they win the whole thing, I won’t care if they “vacate” it. But not even sure they can because they don’t govern the playoffs
October 21st, 2023 at 8:40 AM ^
Now that this is out there, there is absolutely no excuse for any team to allow michigan to steal their signs from previous games. If they win out against the meat of their schedule, it'd be hard for someone to seriously think they only did so by stealing signs from deciphered information that was obtained illegally earlier in the year. If they steal signs, its going to be from the old school way of doing it. Maybe they used signs to beat 30 point under dogs. That seems unlikely. So in my mind anything accomplished championship wise will be legit regarding signs.
October 21st, 2023 at 11:24 AM ^
Exactly. This will be the deciding factor among court of public opinion. If Michigan wins out in the same fashion they have over inferior competition beats Penn State & OSU none of this will matter.
But if they somehow struggle vs MSU/Purdue the noise will be unbearable.
I predict Michigan will continue to pound their opponents even worse, if that's possible.
October 21st, 2023 at 8:26 AM ^
"If" Stalions was stealing signs, who would he give them to other then the coaches..someone had to know
October 21st, 2023 at 10:34 AM ^
Stealing signs is part of the game and not against the rules; it doesn’t matter if the coaches received input from Stalions. The alleged rules violation involves Michigan sending staff to opponents’ games (not at Michigan Stadium) with the specific assignment to scout them in person. To sustain the allegation, the NCAA needs to prove (1) staff attended the opponent’s game in person, (2) staff scouted the opponent while in attendance, (3) Michigan assigned the staff to do (1) and (2).
October 21st, 2023 at 10:35 AM ^
Exactly which is why I thought it was probably dumb if Harbaugh to make that denial. I can’t imagine Jim didn’t know what Stalions was doing.
And to be clear I think this whole fake scandal is a joke and should not result in any kind of penalty but because the world hates us we may get hammered.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:28 PM ^
Why would they vacate their wins?
October 21st, 2023 at 1:21 AM ^
I guess they would vacate the cupcake games. I'm sure Jim has put an end to this Marine running game film analysis, so games from here on out will not be part of sign gate, if the past games ever were. And we would have still blown these cupcakes out even without this Marine doing game tape analysis. I have no idea who the Marine contacted, one of the D coaches or a GA? It's all just a joke of the NCAA trying to bully Michigan and Harbaugh.
October 21st, 2023 at 9:06 AM ^
Have you heard of the 'Michigan Athletic Department'? It will self-vacate the National Championship (should we win it) in the spirit of fair play.
HANG THE FUCKING BANNERS!!!
October 20th, 2023 at 10:18 PM ^
Stewart Mandel and hard haven't seen each other in a lotta years.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:18 PM ^
I just hope that Michigan, or Harbaugh, or Stalion will sue ESPN, the NCAA, and these other entities for character defamation.
I expect a lot more considering this whole thing broke roughly within 24 hrs.
October 21st, 2023 at 8:29 AM ^
Harbaugh and his attorney need to sue the NCAA for defamation and harassment, and collect big to end this crap. He already has a case IMO. In both cases (Hamburger Gate and Signal Gate) we've seen the NCAA release information to other groups and making public statements about the case, while preventing Harbaugh from discussing it. In the current case, they've leaked information before any significant investigation has been done or concluded. What they are obviously doing is trying to try the case in the court of public opinion which is damaging Harbaugh's and Michigan's reputations.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:20 PM ^
Sanction them this year? Didn’t the Bill Self deal take like 6 years? This has reached the idiot stage.
October 21st, 2023 at 6:47 AM ^
As Brian said on the podcast, Michigan has 90 days to respond AFTER they receive a notice of allegations, which they haven't yet. There's no mathematical way this can wrap up this season, period.
October 21st, 2023 at 10:00 AM ^
If any of us were handling this, I would agree. But Warde may immediately respond because he seems to dislike the Michigan football program more than anyone.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:20 PM ^
If he were to ever embody a form of feces in another life, he most certainly would be white crusty dog shit that is passed over and hoped the mower will dispose of.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:21 PM ^
I already don’t care about asterisks. I just want to blast MSU, PSU, and OSU and that will work fine. Vacate it if you must, but it’s going to be spectacular.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:22 PM ^
I would try to insult him but literally every insult known to man has already been made in the replies to his tweet
October 20th, 2023 at 10:23 PM ^
Mandel was raised in Ohio. He went to Northwestern, but he's probably an OSU fan to some degree.
It has to suck watching your Medill degree and your craft (such as it is) be devalued a little bit more with each passing year.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:31 PM ^
I'm into judging books by their cover today. He looks like a douchecanoe.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:31 PM ^
I wouldn't read and post every hack who is trying to go hard at UM when those same hacks did shit about shenanigans by UNC, Bama, pick a SEC team or OSU.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:32 PM ^
He's doing what he's paid to do, which is suck the life out of this story until it reaches zombie status.
I hate this part of sports journalism now. It seems like these writers have to pump out a bunch of stories on a topic from ever so slightly different angles, in such a short time, because our attention span is worse than a goldfish and we'll be onto the next shiny thing Monday morning. Come Monday, the CFB world will be breaking down the OSU-PSU and Alabama-UT games and previewing the first batch of CFP rankings.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:40 PM ^
It’s not journalism.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:02 PM ^
This. Barring some huge development, no one will remember this in a week.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:32 PM ^
Pardon me Stew, I’m a little slow, but can you please explain how a national title this year would be tainted? Let’s be real, Michigan hasn’t played a team that would be competitive even if they had our plays and we certainly didn’t need theirs to win. The only two teams on the schedule that have a chance would be PSU and OSU. I’m certain they will revamp their signals prior to their games with us. After we thump both of them, there will be an asterisk? I don’t think so.
If you want to argue that last year’s games are tainted now, I would entertain the argument. I wouldn’t agree, but I would understand your point, but I completely disagree that this year is somehow tainted. Unless you’re talking about Harbaugh’s suspension. While not something to be proud of, it’s hardly an excuse to call the season tainted.
Tennessee hands a high school recruit an $8 million contract and not a word is mentioned, but we scout an opponent and the ncaa opens an investigation and somehow the season is tainted. What world am I living in?
October 21st, 2023 at 6:50 AM ^
OSU staffer admitted they changed their signs specifically for Michigan last year. Before a game in which Michigan was without Blake Corum and Mike Morris. That tells you all you need to know about whether sign stealing granted a competitive advantage.
October 20th, 2023 at 10:38 PM ^
This is pretty straightforward. This Michigan story is like shooting ducks in a barrel for the media.
But it's all noise and nonsense until we a) actually know what happened, and b) know who knew what when.
As another poster said, I don't even care about asterisks or vacated wins at this point. Watching Michigan play is a joy in itself.
Btw, Warde, speaking of banners...
