Sparty's nightmare February

Submitted by Real and Spectacular on

I'm not one usually to pile on, but holy crap, if I were an MSU fan I would bury my gear in the back yard in shame. Quick recap.

1. Awful finish to recruiting class, with a bunch of embarrassing misses.

2. Defense best player Reschke rumored to be voted off team after racist texts revealed following teammate boinking his girlfriend.

3. Get pounded in bball by UM. Izzo cries about it.

4. Starting DL spits in officers face, story breaks.

5. Ongoing investigation about team doctor and sexual abuse.

6. 3 players and a staff member suspended for sexual assault.

7. Starting OL quits team because it's not fun.

8. Band director accused of sexual harassment.

9. Massive on campus fight with a beating and robbery that may have involved football players.

Wow! On second thought, they shouldn't bury the gear, they should burn it. And it's only February 9! I've never seen anything like this. Mark Hollis can't be sleeping much at night.

[Ed-Ace: Locked the thread. The OP is fine. The sexual assault allegations are not a joking matter, however, and much of what was in the comments crossed that line. That is not rivalry trolling material. The basketball team gave you all more than enough of that on Tuesday.]

How the hell do you vote someone off the team. It's not a fuckin demcracy. Everyone is their on a free ride sports scholarship and to listen to the coach, follow rules and maybe mature. Oh ya and get a free education if you so choose to go to class after all your mini protests about this or that. Where is my trophy. I yelled at the television louder than anyone this year. LOL. Sorry about the rant, but we as a society have gone to far. Maybe I am to old school, but I just can't see myself telling my wrestling coach or drill instructor that someone wrote a mean text and it hurt my feelings. Also word of advise if someone is cheating on you........BYE.

Playing tough guy doesn't work in this situation no matter how "old school" you are. If there is a guy on the team who said what Reschke did, then there's good reason for other players to speak up and have input and if a coach (who is a state employee, not a dictator) doesn't addtess the problem as an employee of the university he not only could end up with a mutiny on his hands, but could find himself in quite a bad position if later found to have suppressed that type of thing.

So play tough guy, back in my day we didn't question authority guy, or whatever. But that isn't the world you're living in now.

They could be a lot worse if they lose Corley, Vance, and King if those are the three players plus Reschke. I'd assume Cooper is back with a suspension. I don't know who is left that is actually good. Lewerke possibly?

I know Justin Layne got converted from WR to CB last season. He did a decent job. But if Corley is one of the 3 they have very little experience at WR. Wonder if they would move him back to WR.

If I was a mother of a 2018 recruit and just had Dantonio in my living room, I'd be thinking W.T.F. !

Took a trip to RCMB for the first time. Had to leave because my phone nearly caught fire. Btw, the interface of that site looks like a garbled mess of steaming dog shit. It makes Mgoblog look modern and streamlined.

It turns out the BigTen schedulers have actually given us a break by having us play MSU away on years where we have to play Ohio State away.

We don't have to play two tough teams on the road in the same year.

I hadn't read about that Nassar guy.  I didn't even know he worked at my old highschool starting a few years after I graduated.  I might know some of the Jane Doe's and not even know it.

They Said That Pride Comes Before the Fall... But by "fall" I didn't think they meant throwing the entire program off the world's tallest cliff. I was thinking a fall on a much smaller scale than that.

Yes, February has been a rough month for MSU.  However, in just a few days the month known as "Izzo" will be here.  The icing on the cake is that Middle Tennessee State looks like they will make the tournament and MSU might avoid any chance for an embarassing rematch when they make the NIT.

I should add the Super Bowl to their list of woes. Yes, this did cause them to melt down as well. No, it's not as severe as heinous accusations of assaults. Just making observations of an epic pattern of misery lately in EL. And yes, as UM fans I do feel we should be above their type of behavior, but if if the situations were reversed and we had just ONE issue going on, they would hammer us unmercifully. The fact that even a few people are calling for mercy on them actually makes me a little proud we aren't all cesspool dwellers like them.

"Starting OL quits team because it's not fun."

I mean, 30 seconds of exposure to Dantonio would alert anyone just how mirthless and unfun this dude and his program is.  He's the last coach in sports I'd sit down to have a beer with.

Don't forget the massive rape scandal unfolding as we speak. Rumors around EL that Corley, King, and another going down on horrific life charges. To the tune of holding her down, while raping and recording it. Warner escorted out, Hollis dead man walking. MSU brass (Ferguson and co.) genuinely concerned for the program about the shit that's about to hit the fan. Dare I say Sanduskyesque. Rumors for now but verrrrry credible source...
