Southern Miss announces Art Briles not a candidate for OC

Good for Southern Miss in realizing that they should not employ Briles. Jay Hopson, USM's coach  (Former UM LB coach) made his own statement:

"I have interviewed Art Briles for an assistant position @ Southern Miss & I believe he is a man who deserves a second chance"...  "He is a man that seemed sincere & humble in his interview & personally he committed no crime. He may not have acted in the proper protocol, but that should be my JOB at Southern Miss! He was interviewing for an assistant position, even though I believe he will be a Head coach at a Major Program in the near future."

I believe in second chances but I am not sure why anyone would think Briles deserves a chance to be a coach at a public university.

Read that Hopson actually interviewed Briles without notifying the school. Apparently some big boosters were pushing for Briles too. School found out and said that ain't happening.  Then Hopson posted that statement. Sorta disingenuous for a guy with Briles baggage to not clear it first (Edit: - and then bitch about him not being hired).

I thought Briles was coaching football in Europe. Or am I thinking of Quick Draw Pitino?

Briles is a true scum bag, but if he is going to coach again I would rather it to be as an assistant/coordinator role. No way should he be in charge of a team ever again.

Art Briles should be the most unhirable coach in college football, maybe in all of sports. Hard to think of someone less suited to be in charge of anything off the top of my head aside from Engler.

This part, from Hopson, is what gets me: "...& personally he committed no crime."

The crime he committed was against women, and against everything the church is supposed to stand for.  If the county prosecutor had a shred of balls he would have found some charges for that entire chain of command, from the school president down to whatever assistants handled the phone calls.  Of course, he would have also had to include the school and local police departments.

The corruption ran deep...

People keep acting like Briles deserves a second chance, like him collecting $15.1M and not going to jail doesn't count.

He can rot in hell for what it's worth to me, but people need to stop acting like he's suffering.
