Sources: Resolution talks in NCAA's case vs. Michigan hit impasse over Jim Harbaugh's refusal to say he lied

A potential negotiated resolution in the NCAA infractions case involving the Michigan football program broke down this week after the NCAA demanded head coach Jim Harbaugh state that he lied to investigators, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports.

It is generally challenging to prove someone knowingly lied without detailed contemporaneous evidence, which sources say the NCAA either lacks or simply doesn't exist.

If coaches on FBI wire taps openly talking about paying players (before NIL was a thing) isn’t “detailed contemporaneous evidence” Jim and UM need to tell NCAA to pound sand. Enough of this! Hang the banners!

Colleges need to blow up the NCAA.  They ignore cheating to a massive degree (payments pre-NIL, phony grades, courses not taken) and then get exercised over a hamburger.  Fuck those guys.  Given the changes in college athletics, and the de facto admission players are professionals in many sports, who needs them?  The leagues can run a basketball tournament too.

This is such a ludicrous case. In the age of NIL, what are we doing here with these allegations? They seem so irrelevant compared to what's been allowed with common knowledge of perpetrators and regulators. Saban would never be challenged like this.

Here's the thing, the NCAA is merely the police force that college presidents couldn't internally create to enforcement competitive requirements and regulations to make everyone accountable to each other. And like any bureaucratic agency which gains a whiff of power over time, it takes on a political and business life of its own.

The NCAA wants Michigan to bend over and accept a punishment without challenge just to show it still has relevance and its investigators won't be disrespected when they do their thankless work. Well, Harbaugh isn't going to sacrifice his integrity for the sake of bending to the will of this institution.

This is a coach unafraid of showing up the powers that be. He demonstrated that perhaps to his own professional detriment by showcasing a shunned Colin Kaepernik at Michigan's spring game. Kaepernik has remained unsigned by any NFL team in spite of widespread need for players of his caliber and experience.

Fuck them-   Michigan should be doing non-stop press releases highlighting the many cases that the NCAA hasn't enforced and asking why the NCAA is trying to charge Michigan with buying a hamburger for a recruit.

Thank God for Santa!

The NCAA by pursuing this will end up doing a favor to Michigan and Harbaugh.

The NCAA is hated or disliked by most people so having them attack you for minor shit makes other people be on your side.  Plus, Harbaugh has the opportunity once again to show that he will not bend to bullshit authorities.

What’s with the hard on for M all of a sudden?  The Weiss thing being front page on ESPN and this sham of an investigation  sounds like Michigan winning  pissed in someone’s cheerios.

Sadly he watched a President of the USA do this on the daily. Acting like truth is what HE thinks or says it is. While Trump was president my golf handicap dropped from 16 to 6. I simply played by the Presidents rules.
