Sounds like Yaklich is headed to Texas
If/when Michigan hires Juwan Howard — no deal is official yet, per @GoodmanHoops and @JonRothstein — I’d expect current Michigan assistant Luke Yaklich to head to Austin in short order and join Shaka Smart’s staff at Texas.

Not good Bob
Brendan Quinn says no formal offer yet from Smart.
Exactly. https://twitter.com/BFQuinn/status/1131229554159312896
Leave it to 1201 to find the most pessimistic prediction.
An update on Luke Yaklich:
— Brendan Quinn (@BFQuinn) May 22, 2019
According to sources on both sides, Shaka Smart remains very interested in him as a potential assistant. No formal offer yet, as Yaklich has been given time to sort things out at Michigan. Per a source, Yaklich interviewed for the U-M HC job last week.
He's been given time to sort things out with Michigan, implying that he wanted time to sort that out. Sure he's probably hoping for the HC job, but failing that, it's still a choice (if Howard is hired and wants to retain him) between being an assistant at M or UT. Who knows how that shakes out.
So really no update here. Doesn't sound like he's going, doesn't sound like he's staying, sounds like we know nothing about what he'll do.
Seriously though Maizen, keep making these posts where you take tweets containing the opinions of uninformed people, and pass them off as facts.
You're getting negged to zero and will soon have to abandon this account and make yet another one (if you don't already have it up an running).
Here is what Sam Webb wrote word for word. I guess he's uninformed too, huh?
I think it's going to be tough for them to keep Yak. I don't think a simple offer to stay will cut it. I initially thought he would head to Cleveland with Beilein, but now I think he'll go to Texas. I hear Shaka made a very strong pitch. Texas' athletic director even got in on the act for good measure. Juwan will have to do some serious recruiting/convincing to keep him in my opinion. It's not impossible because I think Yak really likes it here, but to steal a phrase from Jalen Rose, "if you want him, you have to go get him." We'll have to wait to see how hard Juwan goes after him.
Well, clown, you if you want to be a shit-stained douche-canoe (since you want to start childish name calling), let's break this down in sentences.
"I think it's going to be tough for them to keep Yak." Think = his opinion.
"I don't think a simple offer to stay will cut it." Think = his opinion.
"I initially thought he would head to Cleveland with Beilein, but now I think he'll go to Texas." Think = his opinion.
"I hear Shaka made a very strong pitch. Texas' athletic director even got in on the act for good measure." Hear = a rumor.
"Juwan will have to do some serious recruiting/convincing to keep him in my opinion." Opinion = his opinion.
"It's not impossible because I think Yak really likes it here, but to steal a phrase from Jalen Rose, "if you want him, you have to go get him." We'll have to wait to see how hard Juwan goes after him." Ended his bunch of opinions by basically saying "but I could be wrong, anything could happen."
So, yea. You keep posting people's opinions as facts. Webb basically said "in my opinion, these are things that could happen, but we'll have to see what Juwan does." And, my comment was in response to your plethora of posts about what some unconnected random twitter news idiots were saying. Is Webb an unconnected random twitter news idiot? No. But his guessing and opinions aren't facts or information.
Your posts, including Webb's tweet, add zero new information and zero facts, you mouth-breathing knuckle-dragging inbred sheep fucker.
Ah yes. I think Drjaws is the reincarnation of my late father who used to endlessly ask if I understood the difference between a fact, an assumption, an opinion and a guess.
Hence the thread title "it sounds like" you dumbass.
Don't go work for that turd...he'll be fired in 10 months.
It might be what Luke is hoping for...
teams don't fire a bad head coach then hire their asst. if a coach leaves, retires or is fired for a scandal, that's a different strory
If that assistant was long standing, probably true, but if he was only there for 10 months and was responsible for dramatically improving Michigan's defense while with the program which helped them make deep tournament runs, he might get a shot.
This could also happen at Michigan if Juwan doesn't get his coaching legs.
Good point, but I think even if he succeeds at Texas, Texas basketball is big enough such that they will want to hire someone with HC experience, just like us. Yaklich might be the odd man out again.
How excited were you to make this board post, 1201?
RandyMarshComputerJizz.jpg
My guess is he went from six to midnight.
He typed it with one hand.
The last 24 hours have probably made him so mad what with all the good rumblings about Howard. Probably almost jumped out of his chair when he saw some potential bad news
Probably almost jumped out of his high-chair when he saw some potential bad news.
There, I fixed it for you.
Also sounds like our choice was either Yaklich or Howard if he's leaving conditional on Howard arriving. And if so, I think Warde chose wisely.
we don't know that. hell, howard has probably never spoken to yak. that has to happen first. hell, the howard hiring has to become official first. once howard is hired then meets with yak, we will know more. if yak hasn't packed his bags for austin by friday, it is a good sign he stays at UM, imo.
I see a little disappointment by a few not only on this site but amongst some other UM fans I know but I truly believe this will end up being a solid hire down the road. I think JH is going to be a monster on the recruiting side once he starts establishing relationships with HS stars and it all starts with recruiting.
From all of the profiles going around, it sounds like Howard functioned as Miami's defensive coordinator. If Yaklich stayed, he'd probably have to relinquish some of his autonomy in controlling the defense. I can see looking for a different situation.
I agree with this take and think it might also behoove Juwan to instead seek out an assistant that has some head coaching experience with a strength in offensive game planning.
Shaka Smart is also a defensive-minded coach though - and his job security is shaky. Throw in that Yaklich's son will be a HS senior and it seems to me like he may as well give it a shot with Juwan for a year.
I'm guessing defining his role was part of the conversation Yaklich had with Smart and the AD. I hope he stays, but if he leaves, I wish him nothing but the best.
And if staying is his priority, making it seem like he's leaving is likely in his best interest.
Certainly am not opposed to making Yak a nice offer to stay. For continuity reasons I hope he does and he will most likely help Juwan improve his defensive schemes. I just hope they hire an assistant with some head coaching experience and offensive skills.
webb indicating we will have a shot to show the love to yak before this happens
Agree. Warde has to show him how much he wants him on the staff... with dollars.
Will that require our fearless leader to go to Galapagos or go sailing or something? Or can he just get it done. What's the best practice in this situation?
Maybe ask Jack Swarbrick what he should do.
I would hope we're the favorite to keep him for another 1-2 years. His son is late in high school. I would think he would rather stay if the offer is right. Then when his kid is in college, then move on to a HC gig. Either way, he's probably going to make another move in 1-3 years. If he goes to Austin, it's because Shaka got fired. If he stays here, it's because he got a better gig. Hope we sweeten the pot and keep him for another season or two
Of course. You aren't smart
Well.....alright then. Bummer that he likely won't stay, but Howard should have the right to pick his own staff to begin with. No guarantee that he and Yaklich would've been on the same page anyway.
Hope that, for his sake, he can turn Texas' D around. Otherwise he's going to be out of a job in 10-11 months, through no real fault of his own.
Losing Yaklich would be a massive blow, but it’s a risk you take when you aren’t sold on him being the HC. Juwan should be given the chance to build the staff he feels most comfortable with, a cohesive coaching staff is just as important as anything.
A loss for sure, but a massive blow is a bit much. Let's not forget Juwan was a very defensive minded coach for the Heat. Would love to keep Yak on staff but if he moves on I don't see it as a big loss. That's the nature of the beast.
I'm just thankful we didn't end up with Ed Cooley and his garbage offense or Porter Moser.
Not surprised but supremely disappointed he didn’t even bail for a head job. Hope Juwan brings in good assistants, that’s my one concern with his lack of experience.
If your choices are stay with your current players and recruits and keep developing them for a year before ( in all likelihood) leaving for a tier 2 head coaching job or make a lateral move for a coach on the hotseat, uproot your family while you're kid's about to be a senior in high school, get to know new players and coaches, and then probably do the tier 2 head coaching thing, what's the rationael for going? passed over for the HC job and pride? money? or i guess alternatively JH didn't want him, which seems nuts but is possible.
Just now realizing how confusing having two JH's at Michigan is going to be
BJH vs FJH fight.
Jay Harbaugh is so mad right now.
Sounds like... NOTHING.
So one reporter says he expects Yaklich to go to Texas and you make a headline saying that it sounds like he's leaving? GTFOH Maizen
What's the problem. You think Matt Norlander is just pulling that out of his ass?
Matt Norlander is giving his opinion on what he expects to happen. It's one reporter's OPINION, don't take it as fact and say anything is definite based on that. We really need a mute button so nobody can see your shit posts.
You seem tough
