Something peculiar was put in my office overnight...I have acted accordingly
To my dismay this is what I was greeted to this morning in my office, presumably put up by our accountant who picks up paperwork on his way home and drops off any paperwork I may need to fill out or distribute...or hang up. It has been put in the correct place.

featuring two coaches who left in disgrace, but hey, they won so it's all good.

Cheat in Michigan: get fired and/or go to jail.
Cheat in Ohio: "retire" and teach ethics classes.

Trying to find the criminal action filed against the UM basketball player that wrecked a car after drinking, walked away, came back and lied to the cops. Not finding anything on it though.

Pretty lame effort on the whatboutism, particularly when you could've gone with Robert Anderson. If you choose to troll, troll well. D-
February 23rd, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
Not trolling, just bringing a point to light with something that has happened within the past year that goes against what the poster said. As far as Anderson, there are just certain things you have some class about that are off limits. Making light of what happened at UM, OSU, PSU, and MSU takes a dark individual. While I have some dark humor, molestation isn't something I'm willing to approach.

why the fuck are you here?
February 23rd, 2021 at 3:23 PM ^
You don't see the difference between an adult leader who is supposed to be setting an example for the college students they interact with and a college student who is 30 - 40 years younger and still developing emotionally & cognitively?
February 23rd, 2021 at 7:46 AM ^
Could have added the original coach to resign in disgrace. Funny how all their best coaches resign in disgrace. But good for him for keeping his germs to himself.
February 23rd, 2021 at 8:03 AM ^
Would be interesting to see if this is an OSU thing or a college sports thing in general. Anyone have a list of coaches who have controversial resignations not related to the performance of the team?
February 23rd, 2021 at 10:36 AM ^
They all resign in disgrace because they decided as a program to win at all cost, and that is how to do it. So the coach doesn't toe the rules line but operates in the red.

Evidently statues take off about 30 pounds. Woody wasn't in that shape in the late 60's and 70's. And I know fat when I see it.

Woody Hayes punched a player during a game.
Why haven't they TORN DOWN that STATUE?
Go Blue.

Osu's three legendary coaches were all relieved of their duties for wrongdoing....par for the course in Columbus
February 23rd, 2021 at 9:00 AM ^
I'm willing to give Woody a break and put him a level above the cheaters and the known, ahem, questionable ethics of both Meyer and Tressle. Yeah, Hayes punched a player on the sideline in a fit of rage, and threw a few yard markers in his time. But he was otherwise an objectively good person. I cannot say the same for either Meyer or Tressel.
February 23rd, 2021 at 9:41 AM ^
Yeah, Woody was nuts, and his obsession with Michigan likely fueled the insane level of hostility in the rivalry, but he was pretty much a straight arrow. Bo thought so, and that’s good enough for me. Plus, he was genuine, not sanctimonious like Tressel or phony like Urban.
February 23rd, 2021 at 10:14 AM ^
Not so straight of an arrow. His players were known to Miraculously have money taped under their chairs in the locker room.
February 23rd, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
For realz? I never heard this.
February 23rd, 2021 at 10:24 AM ^
Right - any coach who punches an opposing player must be a stand-up guy
February 23rd, 2021 at 1:38 PM ^
All I can think of during that sad moment was the dude had a stroke. I am pretty sure that he had a history of strokes at the end. Not excusable but if there was ever a case of an event not representative of the whole then this might be it. The other coach issues were premeditated with an ignored chance to come clean.
February 23rd, 2021 at 1:43 PM ^
My mother was a health and PE major at OSU when Woody was on campus (1961-1964)ish. She has told me that on test days, when tests were being passed out, the football players already had their copies of the test.

It should have been disposed of more thoughtfully - in a used cooler with poop on it.
February 23rd, 2021 at 9:06 AM ^
Nice, but I would have run it through a shredder, cut the strips into little pieces, and used the pieces to spell out "Fuck you" on blue art board.
A response that's both artistic and appropriate - and it keeps you from having to deal with cooler poop. (Hygiene, y'know.)

I was going to ask who hurt you, but I'm sure both of us have watched the last *checks notes* 15 years of this rivalry.
February 23rd, 2021 at 8:35 AM ^
Why does that remind me of that episode of it’s always sunny where the gang is trying to reignite the flip cup rivalry with the bar down the street, and then Frank and Dennis sneak into the bar owner’s house, start destroying his stuff, and then Frank decides to really mess with him by doing the guy’s taxes for him.
“What’re you doing, Frank?”
“I’m doing this jerkoff’s taxes. Next year the IRS will AUDIT THE PISS OUT OF HIM!!”
”WHOA, THAT’S SO WEIRD, THAT’S LONG TERM SHIT, FRANK!!”
February 23rd, 2021 at 7:44 AM ^
As someone who lives in Ohio now, it really is shameless how much the state government does fawn over the OSU sports (and other) programs.
It is also a curious reflection of how *little* the state government in Michigan regards it's own flagship university - and not just now, but for the past several decades.
February 23rd, 2021 at 7:47 AM ^
Just look at the cost of tuition now compared to 30-40-50 years ago due to the lack of state funding. Michigan state government and taxpayers don't give a crap about their public universities.
February 23rd, 2021 at 9:04 AM ^
Loss of state funding aside U of M should be ashamed of themselves for this number.
February 23rd, 2021 at 9:14 AM ^
Many state universities have seen massive drops in support from legislatures. I believe in some cases legislatures now fund less than 10% of university budgets. Elite ones like the University of Michigan and the California system (UC-Berkeley, UCLA) now must seek funding like private universities do, in tuition.
February 23rd, 2021 at 10:17 AM ^
Serious question: is it possible that the amount of funding is actually the same or has risen slightly, but as a percentage of the universities budget it is smaller? I don’t know the answer to that, but I do know that tuition costs have skyrocketed for no seemingly good reason. And it’s not like in 1980 or 1990 they got half $1 billion and now they’re getting $40. Something is going on.
February 23rd, 2021 at 10:20 AM ^
YoY U of M has been one of the most expensive OOS schools. Don't know why but just saying this is not an anomaly. The data has trended that way for years.
February 23rd, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
thank you for posting that. i wonder if $/student is the accurate metric, but even if it is then that graph shows that the amount per student went from about $7500 to $4717/student which in no way explains the cost of tuition rising nearly 10-fold.
February 23rd, 2021 at 5:45 PM ^
I believe it's a combination of bad and good.
Bad: administrative bloat
Good: increased attention to student success—tutoring, efforts to keep students in school, counseling, student activities—which requires workers, their salaries, and support funding.
Coming out of World War 2, the basic model was a few administrators, professors in a few standard disciplines, and students thriving or not. Now, schools do many more tasks, which means many more administrators. It means hiring the best teachers you can with extra funding for travel (research, conferences), for projects, and for extra efforts with students. It means working hard to help students find success, in class and otherwise, so their talents and their (parents') money isn't wasted.
February 23rd, 2021 at 1:44 PM ^
The government backed student loans racket and subsequent administrative bloat at public universities would like a word.
February 23rd, 2021 at 7:51 AM ^
This is because there isn't another school in Ohio that has an inferiority complex so massive and delusional as little brother. Think about it, nobody in Ohio (that I've ever met anyway) is ashamed to admit that they wanted to go to OSU but didn't have the grades to get in. I would be curious to know the percentage of UC students who are also OSU fans (and OSU fans first) compared to the number of MSU students/alum.
February 23rd, 2021 at 8:46 AM ^
I switched careers and second bachelors degree from UC in 2014. I have to agree there was a large percentage of students who were OSU fans. I was the unique Michigan fan on campus. As far as sports go, basketball is a much bigger thing at UC. I would say a good portion of the OSU fan students had split loyalties and went with OSU for football and UC for basketball.
I have to say going back to school when I was in late 30s into my early 40s was a cool experience. I was a lot more focused my 2nd time around. I thought about joining a frat, but my wife and college age daughters at the time frowned upon it.
February 23rd, 2021 at 9:04 AM ^
How cool would it have been for you to be hosting a frat party where your daughters showed up? Like a family reunion!

Yeah... That would have been swell! /s In all seriousness, my partying days were many years behind me at that point. Much prefer small gatherings now.

Two thoughts: pretty much anyone with a pulse who doesn’t have major brain damage can get into osu; and it’s damn near impossible to embarrass someone without basic human decency (and given their adulation of guys who punch opposing players, act holier than thou when blatantly cheating/covering things up, and enabling future murderers and current wife beaters), most buckeye fans don’t have any
February 23rd, 2021 at 9:00 AM ^
Eh, not quite. It's not Michigan low, but it's pretty selective these days. On par with Wisconsin.
February 23rd, 2021 at 9:04 AM ^

February 23rd, 2021 at 10:42 AM ^
Their acceptance rate is on par with Wisconsin, but I think by and large Wisconsin is considered a better school
February 23rd, 2021 at 1:34 PM ^
I wonder if acceptance rate has any real indication on how difficult a school is to get into, or rather how good of a school it is? I mean, I never even bothered applying to UM because I knew I didn't have the grades (and my then -undiagnosed ADHD self didn't feel like doing all the paperwork). I'm sure that sort of thing is more common for applicants of highly regarded institutions.
