So what are our rooting interests for Monday?

Submitted by West German Judge on
Do we root for the conference? Do we root for the team that beat us? Do we root for Ohio State because the rivalry is better with both teams at full strength? Or Fuck the Buckeyes? What's the company line, here?

Sad pizza II would be ok.

i want a competitive game that tUoOS loses (or has lucky win overshadowed) solely because of a bonehead decision by Urbz. Maybe like this (speaking of sequels):

So did you go to Mich?  Good for your mom.  She sounds like a great lady.

True story:  My clergyman went to OSU.  (When i was with him I loved it when my phone rang because he got to hear "The Victors."  Drove him crazy.)  Then his daughter went to Michigan.  Gave me newfound respect for him, and of course i let him know that.  Often.

F Ohio State is always a fine choice. BUT

I'll be rooting for the Buckeyes. It'll help the Big 10's reputation, and I worry that if Oregon finally gets over the hump and gets a title that they'll be able to start recruiting at a higher level, and that's scarier than Ohio winning another ring. Oregon has gone a long way in the football world with top 20-30 level talent, if they can start recruiting in the top 10-15, yikes.

We cannot, CANNOT, have SlUrban Sliar touting about how HE won the First College Playoff.  Period.  PERIOD.  Regardless of how Sir Harbaugh defangs his Suckeyes in 2015, we MUST not allow this poser to drink from the Champions Cup.  Sir James has issued an uber edict that all Big Ten followers smile while squeezing the buckeye nuts off.  SMILE he says.

There is no chance in hell that I will ever root for that school.  I live in Ohio, and if they win Monday night, I might just have to move.  Tuesday morning at work will be absolute hell having to listen to all the Ohio slappies.  I dont know what to think about the game.  I thought they had no chance against Wisconsin and Alabama.  All I know is that I will be cheering hard for the Ducks!

Ohio State can eat all the bags of all the dicks.

Asking MGoBlog if our collective rooting interest is for Ohio State or for Oregon is like asking elves of Middle Earth whether they should be rooting for Sauron's orcs or the human kingdom of Gondor.

People keep talking about things that benefit the BIG 10. The OSU win against Alabama was enough to benefit the BIG 10 image. An OSU National Championship… is just going to benefit OSU and nobody else. They’ll have stronger bragging rights and more hardware to show to recruits. Most OSU fans, at least the ones online, were pulling with all their hearts for us to lose our National Championship basketball game. They were so overwhelmingly relieved when we lost. As I stated in the other thread, Jim is a BIG 10 coach and it was best for him to take the high road and say he was pulling for the conference and OSU. Though we as Michigan fans don’t have to be so politically correct. Go Ducks!

I never got the conference loyalty garbage. Ohio St fans are the biggest bunch of mouth breathers on the planet and do not deserve a championship for falling ass backwards into Urban Meyer's lap 3 years ago while we have toiled in the desert for 7 years. I will never ever ever ever root for Ohio State. I don't care if this makes me as bad as them. I do not want to be a part of enabling that fanbase or school in any way. Go Ducks times a shit ton.

I have always rooted for the Big Ten when playing the Pac 12 and it doesn't matter which team is playing from the conference. Michigan is in the Big Ten and whatever is good for the Big Ten is good for Michigan.

I cannot see how rooting for the Pac 12 over the Big Ten is good for Michigan. I don't even look at which team from the conference is playing it is the Big Ten and the perception of the Big Ten would change a little if the Big Ten were to win this game.

I hate Ohio State, but I have to root for the Big in this game.

You’re right, the Pac 12 winning by itself isn’t GOOD for Michigan. Though most people feel that OSU winning would be BAD for Michigan. You’re one of those people who talk about pulling for the Big 10 and that’s fine. Everyone’s entitled to their opinions and feelings. Though do you care more about the BIG 10 or do you care more about Michigan? That’s where people have to decide their loyalties, because OSU winning will probably hurt Michigan in future recruiting wars with them. I can see if it was Indiana or some other BIG 10 team. Alabama is winning most recruiting wars because kids see the National Championships they‘re getting over there. Alabama has pretty much been #1 in recruiting for the last five years because kids want to win National Championships. We don’t want OSU to reach that type of recruiting status. It’ll make it harder for us to build our program and compete with them, if we're losing most recruiting wars with them.

Oregon, under no circumstances should a Michigan fan ever root for Ohio State in any game, no matter who they are playing against. Anyone who roots for Ohio State, in my opinion, doesn't understand the rivalry.

Oregon.  I can't make it any plainer than that.

Rooting for OSU is the equivilant of hoping for the zombie apocalypse.  Makes no sense and would be the end of all that is good and clean if it happens.

GO DUCKS!

The Big10 already looks good and doesn't need an OSU boost.

OSU has some of the best fans and many of the biggest douche fans I have ever met. The latter is why I will never root for them. I would root for any other big10 school if they were in the title game.

Mariotta also seems like a good kid versus dummy Jones.

If the shoes were on the opposite feet, I woudn't root for Michigan to win. I'd be actively rooting for Michigan to lose just like I did in the title game vs. Louisville. I'm glad that the majority of Wolvies are rooting for us to lose and I wouldn't expect anything less. However, I'm surprise that there is no interest in playing a national champion and having history repeat. Hello 1969. So on Mondy get your chair, get some beer, get on MGoBlog and celebrate the defeat of Ohio State at the hands of the Ducks and the eternal meltdown if we lose...

OSU, MSU and Wisconsin already accomplished the whole "B1G pride" thing this bowl season. Good for them. Now the time has come for the OSU Schadenfreude to commence. Oregon 49 - OSU 14. No joke.

I wasn't upset that they beat Alabama and upended the "SEC rules, Big 10 drools" narrative that the ESPNs and the Drew Sharps of the world love. But now that that is done, I hope Oregon hangs 70 on them.

It's truly a no win situation for me. I hate them both!

"Thee" Ohio State University vs. The University of (Oregon) Nike.

Thee "worst fans in the land" vs. the "user of world cheap labor so we can pay rich athletes more millions".

Oregon's Football Student Center cost Nike $120M, UM's cost $6M. Nike has been trying to buy the NCAA Football Championship.

I would have preferred Baylor. TCU lost to Baylor but the Big 12 was too weak to declare who was their own conference champion in an effort to get one of their two teams in the final four. Obviously that scheme failed miserably.

Since I really have to choose I'll go with Ohio State since it will make our defeat of them next November as monumental as Bo's epic 1969 victory.

There's only one right answer to this question. As Michigan fans, we live to hate Ohio St., so Ohio loses.

But if we must overanalyze, Ohio State loses a close game, late. This accomplishes three things: 1) even moar legitimacy for the B1G!?, 2) hilarity ensues when a previously 5-7 Michigan stomps almost-national champions Ohio St next fall, and, most importantly, 3) it causes even more anguish in the hearts of loathsome Ohio State fans than a blowout (second most favorable outcome) would

I hope they both lose.

But beating the ass of the defending National Champion in November will be tasty.

Eff those guys down south hate needs to get back nuclear grade.

I wanted OSU to beat Bama, in part because of my keen hatred for the SEC, but largely because having a Big 10 team in the title game is good for recruiting, even if it is our biggest rivals.  It lends credulity to the "come here and you'll have a chance to play for a National Championship" pitch that was frankly stretching credibility if you weren't an SEC team in recent years.

However, now the point has been made that the Big 10 can make the title game.  I want Oregon to ground Ohio into a fine paste.  Ohio winning helps us not at all, and will make me listen to annoying Ohio fans babble on for the next 11 months.  Go Ducks!

Simple, I am rooting for Ohio State. Nothing revolutionary here, it just bodes well for our conference and sets up next years beat down of the defending National Champions to be that much sweeter.
