I'm here for the posbang but I'm late for the posbang and now I'm worried that my post will be way down at the bottom and receive far less fake internet points which are after all the entire point of the posbang so what I'm going to do here is post as a reply to this completely unrelated post in order to get more visibility and hopefully more fake internet points even though some may find this disorderly and borderline rude I'm doing it anyway because it's a posbang after all and I'm betting that the default posbang upvotes outweigh those that would downvote for the utter lack of decorum.

  • Will we ever again be able to see a highlight for new posts within a thread?
  • Will we ever again be able to click on a post within a commenter’s personal list of posts and be immediately directed to that post?
  • Will we ever again be able to see how we’ve voted on a post?
  • Will we ever again be able to see the number of upvotes and downvotes for a post, instead of the net result of the votes?

Points issues that take a lot of work are below much larger site issues. We've been working on a big project crucial to the site staying alive that isn't very user-facing. But to address these individually:

  • We put a bunch of resources into this and couldn't get it working so now it's on the backburner while resources go elsewhere.
  • Yeah probably. That's a middle priority thing in a large pile of middle priority things.
  • No, unless you go to that post. Generating those vote pages was a huge resource hog that was okay when we had 10,000 users but not 100,000 active users or 1,000,000 active users. We'd rather save the database pings for users loading the site. Sorry--cost of growth.
  • Maybe one day? When we put in the points we had to build our system off of a module someone else made, and our preference for showing total up and down votes had to give way to save ourselves hundreds of man hours of writing a new module. But maybe one day someone will made a Drupal 9 points module that we can insert instead.

1. Brian is a software engineer who prefers to tinker with everything.

2. This allows us to keep our user data localized on one secure server. WAY more security that way.

3. We may use a forum service in the future--it's been talked about--but that would be a lot of work to integrate it and we feel like our message board is functional if imperfect.

I think missing modules from old Drupal are noticeable but all the stuff that's working--like migrating everyone's status from the old site and keeping comment histories--would probably have been missed more.

I'm being very careful today to avoid Game of thrones spoilers. I am at the end of season 5, I tried to catch up before the finale but it is not really a show I can watch with my kids around!

Sorta. What we're going to do is fix all of the users stuck on zero points by giving them points for all the posts they've made, and hope that jogs them into working. Targeting this Friday for it.

The points are cool, imagine the possibilities.

What if we could wager them?

What if we could see what user gave us a thumbs up/down?

What if we could see how many thumbs up and thumbs down instead of just net?

All of those would make this site even better than it is.

Are these ideas possible and or probable?

I would be willing to help the site manager with this.
