This Should be Patterson's Last UM Game

The experiment should be over after this game. Shea simply cannot lead this offense. He refuses to sit in the pocket, and when he does, he focuses in on one receiver at the expense of all others. His vision is terrible -- he consistently misses open receivers. And he has no sense of pocket pressure, which creates a bizarro world where he sit in the pocket when he should be scrambling, and scrambles when he should be standing tall and delivering strikes. Michigan lost a year of DMac and Milton's development by bringing Shea on the first place. I assume the idea was Michigan needed to win now and he was more polished. Clearly that plan failed. Time for the young guys to get reps. If we lose some, at least it was for long term player development (as opposed to fulfilling what I can only assume was a promise Harbaugh made to Shea or his dad when he initially came here).

I don't see why he can't have a shot.  Next week would be a good week to try it.  Even if they spit the game in half to try it I would be good with that.  Maybe I am the only one but when DM comes into a game the feel of the offense is different.  I see a better command and pocket presence by him for sure.  Shea is not terrible but the times I shake my head is way too often. Needs better RPO reads and stop throwing off his back foot.

I am happy for the win.  That is really all that counts here.

The D is solid and has been. We all just want the offense to catch up.  It's been a constant the last few years and we all know this.  Better offense with more scores keeps the defense healthy and fresh not to mention puts pressure on the opposing team.

The D has been solid against teams who can’t stretch them or make them uncomfortable.  The performance today won’t be replicated in the key games the remainder of the season. They looked better today than they are due to Iowa not being able to stretch the field.  It’s a big W for the D today, just don’t expect it against multifaceted offenses.

I understand that as been the case at times in the key games but my point is, if our offense can produce more often and more consistently (lets say putting up 21 to 30 points a game) then the defense can hang better and not be so dang tired. Being out on a field because your offense can't sustain drives to give them a rest is truly brutal for a defense. It just flat out wears them all out and big plays happen all over.

I think they could hang and keep us in games if our O can score and do things in big games as well.  It can't always be the D bailing them out and putting all the blame on them.

Today we should of had at least another 10 to 17 points on the board in our favor.  If we had better offense production after those turnovers it would have happened.

How exactly did that plan fail?  How many games does Michigan win last year with Dmac or Milton at qb?

The QB in the game today was the winning QB...What else do you want?  Blame Shea all you want but there were mistakes made all over the field.  Dropped passes, bad routes...Oh and Iowa's D is pretty good.

We won the game, glass half full

To further substantiate Gattis's claim that Shea spent all offseason golfing, who remembers that fake Shea Tweet where Shea blamed Harbaugh for the offense and talked bad about Justin Fields?

Remember what Shea's first response was to this fake tweet? He said he had  just got back from golfing when he seen this fake tweet was circulating LOL

147 yards passing and afraid to run. Losses to PSU, MSU, OSU guaranteed if this head case remains as QB.  It’s obvious he was promised the starting job; hence, why no change has been made.

I don't doubt that Shea is the best QB in the room-in practice. I don't doubt that in practice he stands in well in the face of pressure and is able to make some progression reads and solid throws. I know that in the game, under live fire, where he knows he is not protected by his red shirt he does not retain those abilities he demonstrates so admirably in practice. This is where to coaches have got to show the character that benefits the team. Being afraid to lose/fail pretty much insures that you will.

Whine whine whine.  He’s your QB, he’s going to start, and neither our head coach nor our offensive coordinator give two damns what you think you know about football.?

The offense is struggling and I think McCaffrey should get a chance to take the offensive reigns. Shea is not O'Korn level bad, so it's a bit much to say this should be his last UM game, but I want to see if someone else can ignite the offense. Shea seems broken mentally. He's not all there. His focus isn't there and he seems to he doubting himself.

Shea is seriously limiting this offense. He cannot execute the read option run game. He is constantly bugging out of the pocket when unnecessary. He is submarining the offense and it is obvious. Handing him the keys for 2 years was a poor and seemingly panicked decision

So what we're trying to answer is: Is it Harbaugh? Is It Gattis? Is It Shea?

The real problem is, it's all of them.

Harbaugh can't seem to help any QB here improve.

Gattis is apparently calling a shit game. If JH is interfering, then they're both calling a shit game.

Shea can't stand up to the rush, bugs out too early, can't read the whole field, and apparently won't keep when he should on a read play. (If he's being told not to keep, then see above).

Right now, we can change one of these things. But if Dylan is demonstrably worse - which he may very well be - then we're doubly screwed.

What I think will happen is JH will stick with the senior until it becomes more than blindingly obvious that a change might be worth it. Just as he's always done. Even if Dylan is cleared, Shea will play against Illinois and PSU.

Be nice to get an early big lead next week (I know how comical that sounds) and put DMac in for some substantial time and.... you know.... let him run the fucking offense.

I have a bad feeling that the McCaff clan has given up on it and advised him to:  Sit out.  Transfer.  Play a couple years elsewhere.

I wouldn't blame them one bit.
