Short Denard interview about his play this season

Submitted by justingoblue on

CBS Sports published a brief interview with Denard today. Nothing Earth shattering but Denard talk >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CC talk.

On not getting a serious look at QB:

I don’t get jealous. I don’t get mad. Everything happens for a reason. How many quarterbacks actually get a chance to go in the league to play running back? I had the opportunity to still continue my career in football, so I think that’s a great opportunity for me. I thank God for the opportunity (to play) in the NFL. I’m really happy with that.

Denard has 483 yards on 100 carries with 4TD's this season, and 16 catches for 67 yards.

I think that I will enjoy a long and prosperous career for Denard more than any Michigan player I've gotten to watch yet in the NFL.  I know we have Tom Brady, but I guess I wasn't as invested in him by the time he graduated.  The closest thing I have is Woodson, but it was never really a question whether or not he would excel in the pros.  Something about seeing Denard Robinson succeed is just so satisfying.  I'm sure it has a lot to do with his character, but also with the circumstances of his remarkable journey at Michigan and the adversity he faced in transitioning to professional football - hell, even in college.  That famously unwavering positivity of his just makes him so darn endearing, and the success he's found is the icing on the cake.  Long live Denard Robinson.

Giving Denard a specific role rather than making him a jack-of-all-trades really has done wonders and has allowed him to show folks just how much of a benefit he can be in the NFL. Like Leroy said though, he really is the most likeable football player ever though and it would be awesome to see his career only go uphill from here.

If somebody else could've eaten a slice of humble pie and became acclimated to another position, he would still be in the NFL. *Cough*Tebow*cough*.

People need to ask Tim how he likes watching the NFL on Sundays!  Denard is truly one of the nicest, most down to earth players we have ever had, and while we all have different takes on RR, at least he gave us Denard - a great Michigan Man!  Since Tebow is out of the league, maybe we should call this post score praise - DENARD-ING!

...I don't think anyone could imagine just how much.
About a week or so ago I was drunk with an open E-Bay session on my laptop...never do this...and I made an offer for a game-issued jersey of his from the Sugar Bowl. Which I really didn't have the disposable income to warrant, and the next morning I'm like, "please don't accept it, please don't accept it, it was low but not INSULTINGLY low, please don't accept it..."
...but of course it was accepted and of course I did the honorable thing and paid, then started sweating out the details of what the hell I was going to tell my wife when it got here.
Ultimately I decided on the truth. She wasn't even mad.
It's Denard, after all.
/cool story, bro

If you go to the bottom of the page and listen to the audio from the interview, they at first touch on DRob's underwhelming season as a rookie. Yet, Denard doesn't mention or even allude to the fact that a lot of his struggles could be attributed to the lingering nerve damage in his arm/hand that made him a liability, as the injury prevented him from being able to keep a strong grip on the ball.

Instead, he gives credit to the people around him for helping him rebound from last year, and develop into a very solid NFL running back. They also acknowledge the big plays he's had so far and his ability to break away for long runs at any time. Again, he defers credit to others, in this case to the offensive linemen. Tells you a lot about Denard.
