The offense, and the playcalling in particular, was awful. Did we have a single run that gained more than 10 yards? I can only remember 1 that gained 8.
Peters stared down his intended receiver and never seemed to progress until he had already held the ball longer than he should have. He did not look like the answer at QB, at all.
Peters had a sure first down on that last drive if he would have dived for the sticks, but, instead, he went into his slide a yard short (no situational awareness).
The D folded in the later stages of the game, as has so often been the case. It played great until about halfway through the 3d quarter and then disappeared while SC put together its TD drives. In fairness, it did come back to life at the end, but some of those plays in the late third and early fourth quarters were hard to watch. And the D was frequently "tempoed" by not hustling to get ready for the next play.
The worst was the offensive coaching. It is amazing that Drevno and Hamilton could not have come up with a better effort with a month to put it together. Just sad.

Sometime during the early 2000s, it seems like the game of football, or rather, the playclalling, placement of personnel, and tempo that unleashed the "modern spread" era of college football, left Michigan behind.
First it was our defenses under Carr, Rich Rod, Hoke. None of these defenses ever really had personnell or scheme answer for the mobile QB and then the power spread or even the base spread.
Then, Harbaugh comes and makes excellent hires in Durkin and Brown and we actually DO have a defense with personnel and a scheme that answers the spread and mobile QBs (for the most part) and makes us competitive on that side of the ball.
The problem is, Harbaugh is bringing in an offense with little tempo, traditional drop-back playcalling, pretty much no innovation, at least this year. This kind of playcalling, in addition to being slow-developing and complex, just feels like it is stuck in a time that is forgotten. I think it is also predicated on an exceptional talent and "QB mind" and those players are few and far between (like Andrew Luck). We've literally struck out on that type of player for the past few seasons. I think Ruddock impressed over time, but I have never felt at ease with any of the other QBs and as result of being stubborn in this playcalling, we've regressed.
