A quick glance a wikipedia suggests under Bump Elliott in 1963. It also looks like that would have been the only time.

This is the worst four-year stretch:
1934: 1-7
1935: 4-4
1936: 1-7
1937: 4-4
Of course, in the period before freshmen were eligible, you really should be looking only at three-year stretches when discussing the records of seniors. Freshmen became eligible in 1972, so the seniors who graduated in 1967 also had a losing record:
1965: 4-6
1966: 6-4
1967: 4-6

As a senior student I can say it's been quite frustrating, but at least when people ask me when I was at school 20 years down the road I can say the RR era and we can share a few laughs because of my rotten luck. At least I can be hopeful that national championships are on the horizon

for the rebirth, not to mention Denard, The Big Chill, UTL, and you'll be able to think back and tell your children "yeah, Crisler was revamped my senior year. You think this is bad? You should have seen it before the remodelling. Why, I even remember when there was no Player Development Center here. Those old scoreboards looked great in 2011, but they were so small compared to these!"

Its depressing that I'm supposed to be proud, not of the accomplishments on the field, but around the field. Not the ones that students accomplished, but that athletic directors accomplished. I don't define success by the buildings that sports are played in, but by the actual games that happen in them.
Also, you forgot about basketball being good again, hockey's near national title run and the miracle CCHA tournament championship to save the streak.

Here is what I'm not understanding. You rate a new scoreboard or basketball gym over the accomplishments on the field, rink, and court. That seems upside-down to me.

Your mind conjured up some ranking system from the depths of your depression. I also did not mention "this is Michigan, for God's sake". When nothing matters but athletic accomplishment, we on a downhill slide that leads toward Columbus.

I graduated in 2009.
So I saw some good things (2006 football, one hockey frozen four, Lloyd's swan song over Florida, etc).
I also saw some bad things (basketball all but one season, 2005 football, the horror, 2008 football, etc).
But just because I am not in school any more does not make me connect with Michigan athletics any less.
Since I've graduated I seen AND attended the Big Chill, Hockey NC Game, UTL, along with a couple other football games that were less than notable (ie blowout losses).
I've also had the pleasure of watching basketball begin to turn the corner and football trying to do the same thing.
My point being that I wouldn't dwell on what four years you were at Michigan. It wouldn't have mattered what the state of athletics was during my year, they still would be the best of my life.
But even three years removed, I still live and die with all the Michigan teams. The wins still taste as sweet and the losses just as bitter.
That's whats great about going to Michigan. You're a wolverine for life. Period.

In my eyes, the season starts NOW...
We're 6-0, and that's great. But that wasn't too farfetched. A Michigan team SHOULD be 6-0 after facing what we faced.
But this is where we're going to see what we're made of. This is where we see if we're for real.
And the best thing we have now...is senior leadership. It was the FIRST thing Hoke did when get got to Michigan. Empowered the seniors.
This hadn't been done over the past few years...now part of the reason is other than Brandon Graham, we really didn't have seniors in key roles. We relied on a RR's recruits who were young...so you can't fault those teams for not having leadership like this team.
But this year is different. Someone told me one reason why Hoke wasn't worried about hiring a young, charismatic assistant coach (pre Montgomery who was the last hire)...was because he didn't need one. He relies on the seniors to be that coach. He'd rather have a bunch of GREAT teachers...and the seniors be the ones the team can relate to and go to when they can't go to the older sometimes "out of touch" coaches.
Hoke treats the seniors like a collective additional assistant coach, this is there team. And it's going to be great to see that leadership shine during the second half of the year. Koger, Molk, RVB and Martin in particular...those 4 are the clear leaders of this team, even over Denard. When Denard is too excited, it's those guys that calm him down.
Getting back to the topic, these seniors deserve it. They've built the foundation to the NEW Michigan Football. One day Blake Countess, Kyle Kalis, Shane Morris, etc. will be great. But they'd never get to where they will likely get without this senior class. They're changing the culture. They're raising the standards. They're setting the tone that those guys down the road will benefit from.
We dodged some potential potholes on the way to 6-0...but the season starts now. Full steam ahead, hold nothing back. Go get that B1G Championship. First up: State.

We will look back at these guys in a few years like we do the '69 seniors. Or at least I do. Guys who stayed through adversity and became champions. Champions when nobody expected it; nobody thought it could happen.
They were seniors who didn't play before 100,000+ week after week. Didn't play with national championship expectations; hell they played without B1G Championship expectations. Even beating MSU was a big deal; when MSU was the premiere program in the state. History and tradition were a burden, and they were disappointment.
Their HORROR was a buttwhiping in Columbus in '68. This November Brady will go for two after a late TD puts us up by a gazillion, because he can't go for three. O$U's thieves, cheats, and liars will drag themselves off the field; their tatoos a sign of shame and dishonor.
The '69 guys were the foundation for 40 years of greatness. The 2011 seniors are the foundation for the next run of success. We'll savor this, and be more humble, because of the last 4 years; at what these guys have gone through.
Mike Martin is the new Jim Mandich. Though I don't think anyone's carrying him off the field in November.
In a few years 6-0 won't raise an eyebrow. A #10 ranking will be a bit of a disappointment. MSU just another game. And O$U will still be recovering.
Sorry, some of you didn't get to experience North Endzone when Bo ruled the world, drinking age was 18, pot was legal, and Woody Hayes was a face on a roll of toilet paper - and one punch away from retirement. I stood on field in the Horseshoe after the game in '78 engaged in a conversation with an unamused Ohio trooper with a very big stick who didn't like what I was doing to his goal post. My bucket list has me doing it again. Soon. And this time I'll bring a roll of Woody.
There's always grad school. Those who stay.....

Not a fun stat to see, but also the reality. This senior class has been through hell, but hopefully this season will lead to them leaving on a high note. As of right now, I fully expect this team to finish with a winning record on out, which should let them leave with a positive on that side of the leadger.
