SDSU @ Michigan #7 Under-the-Radar Storyline game

Submitted by hart20 on

Rivals has us that game as the #7 Under-the-Radar game. We all aleady knew the underlying storyline, but it's nice to see that the game has more than just our attention.

Here's what the article had to say:

 "In another story line no one possibly could have seen coming, new Michigan coach Brady Hoke will face the school he just left. Hoke went 13-12 with the Aztecs (including 9-4 last season) before leaving for the Wolverines. Hoke has a track record of starting slowly (4-8 in both of his first seasons, at Ball State and with the Aztecs). Does that mean San Diego State should be favored in the Big House?"

The other Big Ten teams featured are Nebraska (twice), OSU, and Notre Dame (We all know they're pretty much Big Ten). I do disagree with LSU vs Oregon being #1. I don't think it's very under-the-radar at all, that game has National Championship  implications. The article's a good, quick read for anyone looking to kill a few minutes.

Edit: I don't know how to put in a text box, so any help would be appreciated. I tried "</blockquote>" but that didn't work.

Reminds me a bit of the Utah game in Rich Rodriguez' first season: A MWC team with a good returning QB coming to Ann Arbor to face a first-year coach.

On the other hand the Michigan offense will hopefully be much, much better, and Coach Hoke and his staff should be able to game-plan for the Aztecs pretty well.

In their favor the Aztecs should have superior motivation, wanting to show their former coach he should have stayed.

I think the quality of that Utah team was much, much higher than this year's SDSU team. That Utah team was undefeated. Maybe SDSU will prove me wrong, but I seriously doubt they are similarly poised. FWIW, I wonder how different things would have been if we somehow pulled out that Utah game for a W...just one more W against a pile of L's, or something more, like more confidence going up against ND?

2008 Utah & 2010 SDSU had 9-4 seasons with a win over Navy in the Poinsettia. That's as close as could be. Back in '08 the jury was out on Whittingham too.
<br>
<br>Utah's undefeated run was not expected they didn't have Boise St. or TCU like hype. Which is why we as a Michigan fanbase came to grips with that particular loss retroactively late in that season.

Click the quotation marks in the icons of the body box. It's  above the box you are typing your post in and a little to the right. To stop the text box click the quotation marks a second time.

Hope that helps.

correct me if I'm wrong but I honestly think SDSU's top 3 receivers are out for the entirety of the season.

I'm not saying the game will be easy, but with I'm not sure they have enough depth to lose the top players at a position and still field a complete team.

If Michigan lost Roundtree, Hemingway and Stonum I wouldn’t like their chances either.
