Santa Has Arrived!
There's a fun video of Santa meeting/greeting people on campus on LinkedIn. Love his energy and excitement for the school and campus.
Happy Friday! Beat PSU!!

I hope he's a great fit for the University. Wishing him nothing but success.
Go Blue! Both academically and athletically.

I agree on all points, but your comment has the stench of Tressel to me.. grr..

TRVB, Very fair point - I edited my comment.
Go Santa. Go Blue!

Kinda late... Walmart had his decorations up for a week now!
Also: the tie in with Santa and the World Cup advertising is cleaver.

This guy is just so likeable. Love his enthusiasm, especially for the critical role that top level sports plays in our university. A real contrast with Schlissel.

Schlissel always gave off a lonely vibe

Schlissel had the necessary academics in his background, but he seemed like the wrong guy for the job. Sometimes things just don't work out. Square peg in a round hole.
I always felt that Michigan athletics was something Schlissel felt he couldn't completely ignore but given the choice he likely wanted nothing to do with our South Campus and it showed.
The president of Michigan has to wear many hats running a multi-billion dollar entity; not an easy job and it is the reason why someone who can do the job successfully is handsomely rewarded.

Yeah. I heard Schlissel at 2 alumni events, and both times, spread over a few months, he talked about how he was getting used to the emphasis on athletics. At the time, that seemed fine: he recognized it was important to many of us.
But in retrospect, I realized that "getting used to ... athletics" (a process that's still going on and hasn't sunk in yet) is very different than something like "I'm glad we've got great academics and great athletics too!"

From everything I heard both here and from a friend getting his phD who gives less then two shits about football, the problem wasn't so much that Knishssel hadn't run a school with big name athletics, it was that he was a condescending asshole to everyone he interacted with.

While the dominance of sports on campus may have been an adjustment, I feel like people conveniently overlook what a hoops nut he was.

Off to a shaky start:
"Today I have the honor and privilege of beginning my service as the 15th president of one of the greatest public universities in the world." (bold mine)
He'll figure it out.

Don't worry - James Earl Jones will have a word with him after and make sure he doesn't make that mistake again.

I don't like to use caps excessively, but - this is one of those moments.
"THE greatest university in the world."
I'll note this in the next donation I send in...

Can't wait to see him strolling up to the tailgate tomorrow
October 14th, 2022 at 1:02 PM ^
Why is he hanging out with Sam Webb?
October 14th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
Hopefully he doesn't start channeling his inner Mary Sue Coleman whilst tailgating!

He has come to town?

And here I was wondering why it felt like Christmas.
Just like it did last year on November 27.

Don't forget the 42 to your 27 there!

Which Santa will we get? Miracle on 34th Street Santa or Silent Night, Deadly Night Santa?
All I can say, is that you had better be good......

Really hoping that he can provide the kind of leadership that ensures robust academic debate and a healthy attitude towards free speech on campus, kind of in the Univ of Chicago commitment model.
