Sam spoke about Devontae Dobbs on WTKA today

Submitted by ldevon1 on

If you aren't burnt out about this recruitment, take a listen. For those who don't want to listen, Sam said Dobbs was upset that Michigan offered after OSU, Alabama, MSU, and ND ampongst others, and he felt slighted. I guess the issue from UM was they wanted him to camp and get a first hand look before they offered, and once he did, they offered, after his Soph yr. They made it known he was a priority, and he was offered immediately. Since then the relationship hasn't gotted a whole lot better, for whatever reason, but it's not from a lack of interest on UM's part.

I think one of your latter points is good to note. Sam rarely calls out or says anything negative about people he knows. I understand though, he'd lose inside info with some of those folks so it's not in his best interest. But it is something to keep in mind in this instance.

Really don't care. Harbaugh shouldn't cave to the shit storm this kid is creating. Blah blah irrational HS kids blah blah noise. He's not humble and he's not a Michigan man. And don't say we don't know enough, look he's saying a top program that was supposedly his dream school isn't "prioritizing him", didn't offer early enough, whatever. Thats an ego, and we need team players. You won't go far in life in any other avenue than sports with an attitude like that.

I'm not trying to be a dick. I know WD would have been elated to attend UM but that's my point, him saying dream school is laughable is quite ironic. He is the epitome of a kid that would have said Michigan was his dream school. Had he gotten in (all other factors aside) and said nah, dream school is overrated would you believe his above statement?

This kid looks like a player.

What I don't get is why not give him the Swenson offer?

Give him the offer so he feels important and can tell everyone MICHIGAN offered him. But the offer is contingent on him camping and meeting expectations for an official scholarship offer.

Win-Win.

I feel like there's more to this or the kid (or someone around him) just doesn't like Michigan for whatever reason. I don't know anything about this situation, but if an offer is the big deal - that could've been avoided. Especially for a kid who's in the 2019 class.

As far as I'm concerned, none of these 2019 or 2020 offers/commits mean much until it's officially their recruiing cycle.

Because they are trying to get away from revoking player's scholarships after the negative press from Swenson and the 2016 class.  Additionally, you don't want to do that in your backyard.  If you get bad press from a school in Illinois, you can back off that area for a bit and still recruit fine, but it's harder when it happens at an in state program.

and we don't know that for a fact, I'm almost 100% certain they have a good reason.  If so, it's likely they have one or two other prospects they feel a lot better about.  That's fine with me.  Not every highly rated kid from Michigan comes here.  We'll find out one way or another in the course of time - likely this fall when the coaches can contact him directly.

I've had a similar problem with Kate Upton. I used to really like her, but it's been a while now and she still hasn't contacted me about dating. I'm so upset. She's dead to me. Even if she came begging to date me, I'd say nope. That ship has sailed lady... I'm still waiting to tell her this though, just in case.

Seems he wants to go to UM or at least has high interest but was just upset UM didnt offer right away

Dumb on UMs part. They better not fuck this up. If we are going to compete at the level of OSU and Bama then we cant let 5 star OTs walk out of our own backyard

Its still early in the process. I'm sure he will get the attention he's looking for very soon. It's hard to imagine him not keeping the home team in the top 3 because staying close to home is always an option.

When we win that National Championship, he'll come around. In the meantime lets not make their job harder and enjoy the process. Its not personal its entertainment.
