Rick Leach Visits Practice Today

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Not sure if this had been reported anywhere, but I just saw the picture on Facebook. The Guts and Glue of the Maize and Blue stopped by IMG today.

(EDIT: I finally got the photo to post. Scroll through the comments to see it.)

that Missouri game was my 3rd UM game.  I experienced Michigan Stadium for the first time in 1974 (vs Navy) with Dennis Franklin at QB,  then went to two games in '75:  the tie with Baylor, and one week later the win over Misssouri.  I upped  it to 4 games in '76, and finally started getting season tickets in '77.

Rick Leach remains one of my all-time favorite Michigan football players (which is probably no surprise, given that my userpic is Leach and Bo on the Michigan sidelines), and I'm proud to say I witnessed most of his great Michigan career .  Leach was simply a magician in running the option attack----those Michigan teams back then were high scoring machines that seemed to usually win by 40 or more points except for the barnburners vs. the Buckeyes.

OP, what is the source of the photo? It shows as a TIFF file when you open the icon in a separate tab (the image does not display there though), but no path or other information. If it was something you had on your own computer or your phone, try uploading it to a photo sharing service first then posting their HTML code, which they will usually provide in a form you can just copy and paste, into a reply (while in plain text mode).

EDIT: Just saw that you found it on Facebook - you could post the link from there and I could maybe try to get it to display here.

So while we wait I will post my favorite Leach pic.  Love the black puma's, the high whites and the actual maize pants. He was the QB my freshman & sophomore year.  Freaking awesome player tough as nails.

IMO Brian has Denard but we had the original cause Ricky was Denard of the 70's - they didn't call him "white lightning" for nothing.

Leach was fun to watch, but he's at the furthest reach I can recall other than vague references. Gawd I miss Ufer...  You know, outside of this shack, there are a lot of idiots that still complain about DRob having played the QB position.  I can only surmise they have no idea that Bo would have given his left nut to have DRob play QB for him...

You are, obviously, correct. I love Leach, as all Michigan fans should, especially given the fact he wa a stone-cold "Buckeye Killer." But hell yes, D. Rob would have been welcomed much like his fellow Floridian, A.C. It was right after Leach, another great option qb by the name of Franklin who set, I believe, the record for the best three year winning pct by UM qbs after Fiielding. Smooth operator. Also the reason Bo was equipped with the ammo to get the Big Ten out of its tie in with Rose Bowl only and we all know what that has meant for the conference. But back-to-back qbs, I cannot think of any two who did it better.

Damn, I recall and can recall it vividly, none other than the Great Woddy Hayes, on the platform of that train that would lead them back to Columbus stating, "Yes, I believe  Michigan has earned the right to represent the Big X in the Rose Bowl this season." We've fallen so far from those two men  where results on the field of battle meant far more than polling of any nature could ever hope to provide.

Leach is from Flint Southwestern. I remember hearing about him as a youngster, I believe he was all- state in football, basketball and baseball. Drew Henson stopped by practice yesterday also.

First thought when I saw that picture:

Fuck am I old now.

Where does time go?

I was just a little kid watching him like 10 minutes ago.

Youthi is wasted on the young.

captures the swag he played with better than Rick Leach.  He was the first M football hero I can recall from listening to every game on the radio as a little kid back in the 70's.

I went to a party with him once.......we got there and he introduced himself to a girl as "Richard" and was making normal conversation, no "hey I'm a football player".

He was headed over to the keg and asked one girl if she would like a beer, and out of the blue, she drops "not tonight, #7" on him, spins and walks away.  She probably went and bragged that she dissed Rick Leach.

He had a summer job as a sign language instructor, by the way.

I believe that if you found "Michigan Man" in the dictionary, his picture would be there.
