Record number ejected during Michigan-Michigan State game

Four of the arrests were for minor in possession of alcohol, two for disorderly conduct and one for resisting and obstructing police. Eight of the citations were for alcohol in the stadium, with the other for unlawful entry. Among the 71 other ejections, 29 were for possession of another person’s ID, 16 were for alcohol in the stadium, 10 were for disorderly conduct and five were for false identification.

Interesting that most of the ejections were releated to ID's. Does this mean that the athletic department is starting to crack down on non-students using friends ID's?

I've been to a couple of games in Baton Rouge since my SO is an LSU alum.  Though there is no alcohol sold or permitted in the stadium, folks are very laid back and generally can hold a goodly amount of alcohol. It's not uncommon to see people walking the streets of Baton Rouge or the campus with drinks and open containers in their hands.

By the time kickoff rolls around - usually 7pm - everyone in the stadium is pretty well-lubricated.

Regarding student IDs, yes they are cracking down and referring people to the police for using someone else's student ID to enter the game. Be careful. It happened to a couple of acquaintances of mine this year. It used to be a wink-and-nod type thing. No more.

Non-students don't deserve the student discount on face value. They can pay to validate the ticket, which is the difference between student face value and regular face value. (I'm an alum and I currently use my unexpired MCard to buy student tickets, but that's more related to my desire to stand during games. If there were a "young alumni" section like some other stadiums, I would be glad to buy those tickets instead.)

I don't think most of the people that borrow MCards are 35 year olds looking for a discount. It's most friends from out of town that are visiting for the game or young alums like yourself who didn't "lose" their MCard second semester senior year to tack an additional 4 years onto the expiration date. Referring people to the police for this is completely ridiculous.

I wasn't arguing that they should be arrested. But I don't have a problem with them being denied admission and routed towards the window where they can buy a validation sticker - especially the friends who don't attend Michigan. Those friends aren't part of the university community and I don't have a problem with them paying what other non-affiliates have to pay to attend a game.

In my area of section 6 (between rows 50 and 70) there were at least 3 intense face-to-face yelling (and in one case shoving) match between fans. Other fans did a good job of diffusing the situation and separating people both immediately and by switching seats.

It was a very high tension game, but still no room for that. We sat next to 2 MSU fans who looked like students, and they were super cordial to us, as we were to them (even offering their green and white blanket to my fiancee who was chilly). We CAN all get along.

Strange...in my section we had nothing out of the ordinary.  The MSU fans seemed more than cordial and Michigan fans around them reciprocated.  The only solace I get out of that last play was that many of the Spartan faithful left after the four and out and did not see the play.

It's this, the vandalism and reports of fights after the game that are the reasons why this will never be night game in Ann Arbor.

Night games suck unless they're against teams that have civilized fanbases.

I understand what you are saying. The only argument I have is that once you walk out of the stadium, you are on your own. I saw cops around the stadium, but not on the roads I had to walk to get to my car. Parking was a pain and those dark side streets don't help. I saw at least two fights where a guy was bleeding in his face. I couldn't figure the third one. My point is it is not necessarily inside the stadium that we could have a problem, but it could be outside. I have no idea how Baton Rouge is setup for parking.

Worked against ND, but like you said, they have a largely civilized, intelligent fan base. A night game against the mouth-breathers from MSU or OSU just wouldn't work. Northwestern could work, but I think Wisky fans like to drink too much for it to be feasible against the Badgers. PSU and Maryland likely wouldn't have enough fans there to cause problems. Rutgers... Ah who am I kidding. Who cares about Rutgers.

What evidence do you have to support that it would be that much worse being later? It was dark during some of the end of the game as it is, what much is different at 3:30 that is different at 7 or 8? People have been drinking all day regardless. If the games earlier, people just start drinking earlier. And as I said, it's not that often that a 3:30 game ends in the dark anyways.

That is an assumption in my opinion. Most intelligent people (the people I always tailgate with) always drink so much less for later games. I brought 12 beers and a fifth of Malibu to the MSU tailgate and was there from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. I came home with 1/2 the Malibu and five of the beers.

I want to be able to actually focus on and enjoy the game.

I actually thought about this as I was headed back to the car on Saturday - if ABC / ESPN just got a preview of the next several years of this game, then there isn't a doubt in my mind that at some point they try to at least push this as a possible 8 PM marquee start depending on how both teams are doing. I imagine Michigan and MSU still have some ultimate say in this, of course, but it may very well come up.

don't ever see it happening in Ann Arbor, up there why not... but i remember after the 2010 game that was also a 3:30pm start how much of a gong show Ann Arbor was after... the amount of vandalism from state fans (insert picture of car with STAEE paint on it) was crazy and i believe that a Mchigan fan walking home from the game that night was jumped by a couple of state fans and beaten pretty badly... this is why an 8pm game between these 2 in AA will never happen in my opinion...

i worked the first 2 night games and in all honesty ND fans are very nice people and don't do asshole things... granted i was up in the suites so it is rather tame up there compared to that actual seating in the stadium... you had uber drunk people but nothing ever got out of hand...

but out of all of the games i worked and fan bases i was around state fans (from kids to adults) are just dicks, hell OSU fans we're great and everything said was always in good fun with them...
