Rashan Gary - Linebacker - Putting in Work

Super interesting on how they are going to use him, but the coach is excited about him, that's for sure. Trying to imagine him and Bush linebacking together lol. Sorry if already posted - did a search!

Packers Coach Raves about Gary

He cites his athleticism and ability to disrupt the QB over sack numbers.  "You've got a guy with get off and speed.  He just has to learn how to use those tools."  The question is why hasn't he yet in 3 years with GMatt?  I'm excited for him too and I hope his immense potential finally turns into the stats to back it up.

Wearing Clay Matthews' #52 creates high expectations.  Packers are going to unleash Rashan's speed coming from multiple locations, just like Matthews did.  No more Anchor end assignments just sealing the strong side edge like he did at Michigan.  Rashan has a lot to learn, but that speed and size coming like Clay Matthews?  QBs are not going to feel very comfy.

I have to ask: Do people really give a shit about jersey numbers and rookie expectations in the NFL?

I mean senior Devin Gardner wearing Old '98 definitely put pressure on him because of the legacy Tom Harmon leaves behind. And the #1 jersey for WRs has some cache but does the NFL really embrace jersey numbers for players who haven't been great since 2015? I seriously doubt Rashan will be judged on how well he does wearing Clay Matthews old number. Matthews won't even retire in a GB uniform...

Packers are a good organization.  As much as I should hate them as a long-suffering Lions fan, they seem to consistently figure things out and I instead respect them.

The Lions?  They probably would have ruined his career.

The packers were a good organization but I disagree with that currently they have completely wasted some of the best years of the best Qb in the nfl and have drafted horribly over the course of the last 5-7 years.  If Rodgers is not on that team the last three years that is a 4-6 win team every year.  I’m a bears fan keep a close eye on it because I despise them almost as much as Ohio but that organization has done a terrible job putting a team around him

I have a hard time believing that the Packers would have Rashan Gary dropping into coverage more than 10% of pass plays. He may be a linebacker in name only, sort of like Von Miller and Khalil Mack.

I just don’t believe he will ever be that great.  Always solid if healthy but so much hype around him and has not lived up to it yet.  I am a bears fan and happy he went there cause he doesn’t scare me at all.  I bet winovich has a better career.

Am I the only one that prefers these guys to peak while at Michigan? I’m going to be a little upset if this guy ends up a hall of famer considering what he didn’t do when he was doing it for the team I care about.
