Counter argument: Quinn Hughes is playing average, he's just really good

Glad to see Quinn is a force to be reckoned with in the NHL. And always happy to see U of M icers succeed in the pro ranks, maybe someday Dylan Larkin will have actual NHL talent surrounding him with the Red Wings.

I hate Ken Holland so fucking much.
August 17th, 2020 at 12:55 PM ^
Don't worry, even if Holland had drafted Hughes he would have kept in Grand Rapids for a few years to make sure he had enough 'seasoning' before bringing up to Detroit despite their current dumpster fire of a defensive corps.

Was that the primary assist to the goal scorer?
August 17th, 2020 at 10:50 AM ^
No, was the secondary assist.

That's what I thought--Hughes can make those tape to tape passes but it seemed a weird sequence for the defensemen to flip over to another defensemen for the zone exit
Thank you for clarifying

I do not know shit about Hockey, but i do know that 6 straight points by a defensemen is impressive as hell. Hope he breaks the record.

I believe Quinn was going to be the Red Wings pick as management did not expect Zadina to be there. Still too early to write Zadina off but he is going to need to be a minimum 30+ goal scorer to not have some regret on this pick.

Agreed. I don't think expecting a top 10 winger to be a consistent 30+ goal scorer is asking too much, especially when he was the considered one of the top North American skaters in the draft.

Yes, had Zadina not been available, they would have taken Evan Bouchard. Big D who shoots right. The concern they had with Hughes at the time was his size. https://t.co/7jESs62as1

Hate that we prioritized size so much in a few of these drafts. It completely destroyed a draft we had 11 picks in because "you can't teach size."

Great hockey sense, and a great skater not surprising he’s doing so well.

Yes, and the Vancouver Canucks also have Wolverines alum Tyler Motte as a hustler on their 4th line. Despite his small stature, Motte often leads the team in shots blocked, hits, and general killing of penalties.
