Question re: Mason Graham injury

Submitted by Dan Man on October 9th, 2023 at 7:53 AM

Sorry if I missed this discussed elsewhere on the board, but has there been any official word on whether Graham’s cast will be able to come off before the end of the season?  Obviously he is still a terror with it on, but it would be great not to him slightly hampered for OSU.

Why would we want the cast to come off?

Instead, we need to decide how best to accessorize the cast to instill more fear into opposing offenses.  The obvious answers (spikes, barbed wire, razor blades, flaming jets, lasers, etc.) are rather trite and old-hat by now... we can do better.

Last time I heard I think he's gonna be wearing it a few more games, but should be off by the meat of the schedule. However, didn't seem to slow him down much against Minnesota

The cast will get smaller over time this season.  He will be lucky to have full use this season.

Hand control is a valuable weapon in the trenches and probably even more so for skilled wrestler like Mason.

I'm not a doctor so take that into account. My ouija board predicts that it will come off when the doctors believe the undisclosed injury has sufficiently healed.

It is also possible he has a sore ankle and they put the club on with the intent to deceive.

What's the nature of the injury? That will probably dictate when or if the club comes off.

If it's an infected hangnail, sooner rather than later.

Mike Elston said he would have the cast on for a few more weeks. Looks like it may come off later this season. Also the number of plays each d lineman has played so far this season ( due to domination and deep rotating fronts) is quite low = our guys will be ready and should be relatively well rested for the final three games. Scary that this d line will get better as the season goes on playing against teams that will have QBs that drop back. Minnesota stopped trying that because they couldn't protect.
