Looks like a pretty good athlete. Played QB and Safety at De La Salle. Highlights:

Tried out for the team this morning and am fortunate enough to say I will be continuing my football career as a Michigan Wolverine.〽️#GoBlue pic.twitter.com/tPnAF0ipQz

And hopefully, in 20 years, the subject of a feel-good film, recounting his hard-scrabble rise from unknown walk-on to player who actually sees the field and is NOT offsides on the one play where he does so...

the four hour practices, right?

His brother 2% Wilk did not make the team, and is now planning to walk on at Northwestern despite a scholarship offer from MSU.

...he rejected MSU as well. Is a reserve with Ferris State.

I would love to see some behind the scenes story about what a potential PWO has to do to stay in shape, and stay sharp for a tryout. I'd also like to see what the tryout looks like. This would be very interesting. Even if it wasn't a Michigan-story. I'm sure all schools do this, but this is certainly something that most college fans have never seen.

PWOs don't have to try out.
PWOs are recruited, kind of like scholarship players.
Wilk is a student body walk-on.

I would love to see the tryout too. I remember Bobby Knight had a show called Knight School where they putl walkons through a tryout. It was fascinating to watch it. I am a basketball coach, so the drills were fun to watch. The mental side of it was even more fascinating to me though. I would love to see a show like that at Michigan with Harbaugh.

Was he the next QB after Shane Morris left D.L.S. ?

I believe the QB right after Morris was Giovanni Rescigno, who went to Rutgers.

What happened to all the previous PWOs?
Once the 85 roster spots are left, that leaves 20 places for PWOs on the 105 player roster. With all the PWOs that UM has taken the last 2 years, it would seem that the 20 player PWO roster is full, even overflowing.
So it would seem that PWO is basically a one year tryout and if they don't cut it, what happens to them? Do they still attend practices as part of the non 105 player roster? Or do they just slip back into the non athlete student body?
Thanks in advance for any additional info on the PWO process.

Great question. I'm guessing the attrition rate for walk-ons is higher than for scholoarship players. After their freshman season, some might not find it as attractive. That's a heavy load playing football and going to school.

Yeah the PWO is only guaranteed for a year. The 105 roster limit is for fall camp only. Once the academic year starts, a team can have unlimited players.
So after the year as a PWO they either receive a scholarship, compete to stay on as part of 105 for fall camp, stay on the team but skip fall camp, or quit all together.
