PSU President goes full Joebot

Submitted by Heywood_Jablome on

Feel free to merge into the other PSU thread, but I felt this deserved its own.

You'd think after all the allegations, that school might have some humility...apparently not. President goes back to blaming the media, blaming victims, blaming anyone other than Paterno or PSU.

That school has learned nothing.

but what fun that would be to have one.  i did build an indoor ice rink years ago in the barn and that was a kick.  too much stuff in there now to do it, but with it covered like that the ice sheet lasts way longer b/c no sun or rain.

I heard something similar from a comedian once:

"I always wanted to be a member of the Mile High Club, but it turns out it doesn't count if you're the only one in the plane. And the plane is still on the ground."

"So basically, I was just jerking off in the hangar. They don't have a club for that yet."

I once made a remark about SEC fans in a Finebaum thread and some Douche Canoe (see other thread!) chimed in about how I shouldn't "make generalizations about an entire region of the country and its people," based on people who call into Paul Finebaum's show..!

Lol, clearly that poster --

A)  Has never been to SEC Country

B) Has never listened to Finebaum's show

C) Has no sense of humor for a timeless joke about redneck hillbillies in the South

Do we really need this ugly shit on MGoBlog?  Everybody vented, etc, on the other thread.  Brian covered it well  It has been rehashed over and over.  We're bitching about a dead guy and a pervert who is where he belongs and will never hurt anyone else again.

Maybe it's time to give it a rest and have fun with the great things in store for Michigan this year.

Up to now it just been some media and fans weighing in with their opinions, Now we have an official response from PSU.

It wouldn't be noteworthy if he just stopped at the early part of his statement. Saying that the claims are appalling and that they will look into them is what would be expected. It's probably what we would have gotten from any other school or from PSU a year ago.

He started along those lines, but what he emphasized was truly appalling was the media coverage of these new allegations. He lied when he said none of the claims had been corroborated and threw out that the Paterno family had denied them. As if they would know or would ever admit it if they did.

He's taken sides very publically with the Paterno loyalists. In fact, he condemns Sandusky's behavior several times, but makes a point of never questioning Paterno's. He ends by saying he's had enough of the media talking about their scandal and ends by repeating that he's appalled by the media coverage.

This is the exact type of statement that PSU was careful to avoid when they were facing punishment from the NCAA and the Big Ten. I daresay that if their president had said something like this back then they would have gotten the death penalty and been booted from the Big Ten.

What's changed since? They've been emboldened by the NCAA giving them everything they asked for in reducing penalties. They've shown the power the Paterno cult still wields over the school. They think it's too late for further penalties no matter what and it's safe to show their true colors.

It's very ugly. They should be ashamed and there should be calls from the PSU community condemning his statement. Maybe that will happen. I wonder what "Nittany Fan" thinks. His posts here don't reflect that kind of attitude.

I hope this will at least spark a discussion within the Big Ten about their previous decision regarding PSU's membership. As I recall, it was far from unanimous and there were questions about PSU's attitude then. It may just be time to admit they made a mistake. The Big Ten will be just fine without PSU. They'll have no trouble finding a replacement. Pitt would be perfect.

They still employ that purple-faced bastard, right?

"Gusts of wind up to 60 mph today will be fun at work ... I guess I've lived long enough," he wrote on Twitter shortly before practice. While on the lift, he tweeted again. "Holy (expletive). Holy (expletive) this is terrifying," he wrote.

is about who can be the most outraged and condemn in the strongest words. Ok fine, it deserves condemnation. But unlike the vast majority of people, I'm not goung to judge someone from the 1970's by the same standards of today. That was a totally different time, and Joe was from an even older time, and these things simply were not discussed and always swept under the rug. That's wrong, no question. But it's reality.

Even if society didn't take child sex abuse as seriously back then as now, this wasn't one isolated 1970s incident.  It appears that Sandusky was repeatedly molesting children, in the '70s, in the '80s, in the '90s and in the 2000s.  Paterno didn't just keep silent after the first time, he continued to do so for decades.

Even after finally parting ways with Sandusky - even when he indisputably knew what was going on - he still gave him free reign of the football complex.

If Paterno were a random guy working a nine to five, would you think of defending him?

You understand why he continued to allow Sandusky access, as late as 2011?   I certainly don't.

That wasn't a different era, nor was the incident swept under the rug by that point - he'd reported Sandusky to his bosses.  And yet he still allowed him to come into the football complex and bring in Second Mile kids.  It defies all logic.

standing up for his U and his job (as the rabid no doubt demand)--with the first paragraph. ("There is no proof of this allegation. . . at this point it's just hearsay. . . We urge the press to treat the matter responsibly/not engage in innuendo. . . ")That would have had a certain elegance. . .

Instead he went full homer.

Could be wrong, but it seems we have reached a stage where invested constituencies in all areas of American life--irrespective of their politics--just run to the barricades when they see their kind attacked, and are willing to suspend judgement and travel far outside the lines of fact or truth in order to defend. Tribalism. I see this here in Tallahassee (where Barron was once president) with a lot of people who should know better STILL defending FSU and Winston when there is so much evidence of screwing up, even beyond the question of Winston's culpability.

Joe is thankfully where he belongs now.

The cultists defenders of his are just as bad as he was because they're advocating for a subhuman piece of garbage who let his buddy ruins the lives of children as far back as 45 years ago.

As I have said before, I wish that inhuman pos bastard was alive and would have to face the music and once and for all even tbe most delusional supporters could see what a devil he was and his legacy would be once and for all dismantled. His death gives all his supporters the crutch that he is not here to defend himself. BTW, FUCK penn state and all the delusional joepa loving fans.
