PSU announces that Michigan game is a student section white out
Apparently it’s not a full white out (which they’ve reserved for their game against Auburn earlier in the year). I found this veto power for the night game interesting. Fully hope that Michigan vetoes the night game because that stadium can be difficult to play in in that environment

Always been one one of my favorite moments as a Michigan fan. Can you imagine the agony PSU fans put themselves through trying to go back and figure out the many opportunities they had to burn up 1 more second in that game?
That was my senior year, our tickets were in row 2 of the student section and the players ran over and jumped into the student section with us. One of my best college memories.

I remember that day like it was yesterday. Freshman year at Michigan, my student tickets were in Row 97 (i.e. the very last row in the stadium), hungover as shit by the fourth quarter. Being so high up as it was, combined with the fact that the play took place at the other end of the stadium, I couldn't see the play live. Instead, I knew we scored when the fans in the south endzone erupted...
We have had some great moments hosting Penn St at home. 2002 OT game under the portable spotlights, 2005 to Manningham, 2016 & 18 ass whoopings
I sure hope it isn't a night game either. The last time Michigan defeated PSU in Happy Valley was in Harbaugh's first season in a daytime game.

It's this sort of negativity that I can't stand... If your going to have this type of attitude, make sure you're at the games to show support.
Maybe it would be better if people with that much negativity didn’t attend games. Not sure how helpful that type of support would be to the team.
I very much understand bitching and moaning after the coaches have screwed up. Given the significanct changes in coaching staff, maybe we should wait to see what happens before assuming the worst.
Was just about to post the same thing. It's one thing to be negative after they screw up (looking in the mirror here) but to think that before they've even taken a snap is pretty crappy. We have an almost entirely new coaching staff and an allegedly recharged head coach. Why dont we pump the brakes on bitching until they fuck something up and in the meantime be as positive and supporting as humanly possible.
Look, if was to bet on Michigan's win total this year I would definitely take the under as my logical expectations are fairly low. But i definitely WANT them to win every game and until they prove to me otherwise I'm going into the season hoping they do just that.
If anyone here says they predicted the 97 team's outcome they're lying. The 96 team was 8-4, lost three of their last four games and got beat in the bowl game.

When is the last time Michigan met or exceeded expectations? Certainly hasn't happened in my young fandom. Every time we have a chance to turn the corner we don't make the play or commit a stupid mental error.
I agree overall, but to be fair, seeds of disorganization have plagued the Harbaugh era. The most glaring one being one of the worst 2 minute/no huddle offenses in P5. At this point I don't expect those to change much.
Welllllll, I mean.....I think we can all agree that calling a timeout on the first play of a game is inexcusable. And it's years of that kind of ineptitude that's gotten us to this state of the program and led to this kind of attitude. Cause & effect, my friend.
If this hadn't happened already, it would be one thing and I would echo your sentiment. But you can't really call it negativity when it actually has happened during the current head coach's tenure.
Harbaugh has brought this on himself. It's up to him to change the narrative. Clean up the coaching mistakes and self inflicted errors. Let the outcome of the game be solely decided by the play on the field. Then and only then will the narrative change (for most reasonable fans).

Good lord I hope that doesnt happen but if I'm Penn State I'm sure going to push hard for a night game. There is seemingly NOTHING more terrifying to a Michigan player than going on the road at night. And this odd phenomenon goes back decades, not just under Harbaugh.
For whatever reason Michigan has never performed well in road night games. I could start listing all the games we've lost since the mid 70's that fell into that category but that would just make me and everyone else over the age of 25 sad.
Well, if Brendan Roose could make an interesting and readable 3 part series on our passing TDs in 2020, think of what you could do with a series on M road night game losses that happened while you were of legal drinking age!

Hey, I'm taking my son up to Ann Arbor tomorrow for an official on campus tour. We've already hit OSU & Miami but tomorrow is Michigan. Going to meet my niece for lunch at the Jug (she lives in Dexter and works for the University), then walk from there to the Regents building for the official tour.
Should be quite the day for him and me. I'm going to really bore him with all the reminiscing I'll be sharing about life in AA from 79-81 and how much everything has changed.
Have fun! I was there long enough ago that there was still the urban legend about how stepping on the M in the Diag means you'll fail your first blue book exam, but kids these days probably are like "lol what's a blue book, boomer"

My daughter will be a senior there this fall. We were walking across the Diag earlier this summer, and I asked if stepping on the M before your first test was still a thing. She said that they're aware of it, but now it's more of just don't step on it ever out of respect. (Loved that.)
It's hard to get into any of the buildings right now due to COVID even with her student ID. She has to sign up for times to be able to study in the library, etc. I had to sequester myself in the library to be able to focus so can't imagine limiting that access. Hopefully, that ends in the fall but wouldn't count on it.
The hype video they show to kick off the official UM campus tour is phenomenal. I was ready to commit as an undergraduate student all over again after watching it.
Also, tell your son not to be afraid to say that he's undecided about his major during the group tour if that's the case. My daughter was the first to admit this after hearing the first 5 or 6 students declare super specific plans before ever setting foot on campus. The floodgates opened after my daughter broke the ice - most other students also admitted they really don't know what they want to major in. It was a weird psychological barrier. I was so proud of my daughter to swim against the current under those circumstances.
Please pardon me for being a little non-PC here, but if your son got a look at Miami's women I can't imagine him wanting to go anywhere else. ;)

I was in school all through the '70s and I can't specifically remember any regular season night games. I don't think there were very many.
According to John U Bacon, it was the SEC that started to play games at night and especially in September when conditions remained too hot and humid to schedule afternoon kickoffs. I do not know when the SEC night games actually started to occur.
We perform well enough to win night road games against meh or bad teams but it's still a nervous adventure along the way.
In 2018 , we came back to win in the 4th quarter at Northwestern after starting down 17-0.
We had the comeback and goal line stand win at Minnesota in Harbaugh's first season, the last Jerry Killl game, which was a night game.
That (barf) overtime win against Rutgers last year was at night. The blowout win at Rutgers in 2018 was at night. But yeah, it's Rutgers.
Games at Northwestern are almost always at night. 2005, 2011, 2018 and I think the M00N game in 2014 was. Those were all wins.
That really hard fought win over a scrappy Illinois team in Henne and Hart's senior year was at night.
The biggest comeback in school history was at Minnesota in 2003 (Perry, Navarre, Edwards) which was a Friday night game.
That...really bizarre, ugly win at UConn in 2013 was at night.
Probably the last really "feel good" road night win was at Penn State in 2006.
Our main problem comes in the more highly anticipated road night games. Like the almost comeback at Penn State 2 years ago. The last second FG loss at Iowa in 2016 or when Denard threw about 12 interceptions in a 13-6 loss in South Bend.
Michigan wins the night road games against the Northwesterns and Minnesotas of college football. We don't win the night road against the Notre Dames, Iowas and Penn States (except 06.)
