A big issue for the streaming services is that it's the networks holding them hostage. If people cut the cord from cable/satellite and go to a streaming service, the networks will still want their pound of flesh. They play hardball with the streaming services to mitigate the losses on the cable side (to what extent I don't know.

In addition, they also bundle their own channels, particularly the very desirable with the less-desirable (or think about it in terms of broader or narrower market appeal).

These tactics raise costs for the streaming services and, subsequently, they pass on those costs to the consumers. Welcome to the next generation of television.

is that a TV in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

The one plus with streaming is that it's easier to cancel during the offseason than it is for cable.  I expect I'll be ditching HuluLive after either the NBA is done or the World Series, if baseball can make it that far.  There's normally 2-3 months where it's just not worth that $100-$150 for your third or fourth-favorite sport.

Yes, YTTV did increase to $65 and is still much better than the directv I paid $200+/mo for 2 years ago.

But the golden age now is really the seemingly endless options and price points we have to choose from continues to expand. It used to be cable, satellite, or OTA. If you put some effort into you can probably watch most things for the price of a good VPN.

Yes, this. If I weren't subsidizing my Mother's withdrawal from a $200 a month cable bill with YTTV I would have dropped it in March and would only pick it back up to watch the Lions this fall. The Wings maybe if they look like a pro team this year. In the off-season Philo is $20 a month. That's more than enough TV for our household.

Here's a question.  For as long as the SEC, ACC and Big12 can play games this season, are theirs the only teams in the polls?  Why have Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State and PSU in a poll if they are not playing?

Sorry Sparty, you weren't going to be ranked regardless.

I applaud them however this is going to make the Big Ten and Kevin Warren look BAD...We will be sitting home watching SEC teams for 4 long months

Not I.  I'm sure it'll happen at times.  But I'm going to be doing what everyone else should be doing and that's realzing these college sports are fun entertainment, not a section of our life that entails a large amount of devotion.  There's a lot of life to live out there.

And I'm going to watch. I believe Harbaugh when he said they can control the risk.

If Schlissel was the one behind cancelling athletics, he needs to step up and deliver that message. Don't cower behind the AD, go ahead - stand up and say the decision was made by him.

Getting through a season isn't going to prove anyone right or wrong. What is an acceptable outcome? You've already had players with heart issues, hundreds of players nationally have tested positive, etc.

At this point whether you think it was the right decision is based around the level of risk being accepted, not specifically outcomes. You can technically live jumping from a 10 story building, that doesn't mean someone living made it a good idea to jump.

Due to privacy laws and how universities try REALLY hard to hide negative results, there isn't a full count.  But by my count of this AJC article from June (only counting explicit positive cases and ignoring where they wouldn't name the sport or, in LSU's case, how many were positive vs. quarantined), I count 68 positive cases.  And that's just June, and I don't know if that list is exhaustive of the actual number of cases.  And just today ULM reported 11 cases, App St. had over a dozen last week, UNC shut down after a couple of players got sick, etc.  So yeah, safe to assume that hundreds of players have tested positive.

I'll be surprised if there are any games this Saturday.

Edit: To clarify, this was in reference to the CFB games mentioned by the OP.  I'll be surprised if there are any CFB games this Saturday.

Most of the differences in risk actually favor college playing since they have the resources to test and monitor players that high schools don't have.

In the end, it's all about risk tolerance.  Where does one draw the line with the risks they're willing to take? Iowa HS football was willing to take the risks they saw.  Big Ten football was not.

7 states: AL, IA, IN, SD, TN, and UT.

Others scheduled to start on time: AR, ID, IN, IA, KS (but not KC area schools), MT (small schools only), OH, and WY.

14 "states" not playing this fall: CA, CO, DE, D.C., HI, MD, MI, MN, NV, NM, NC, OR, VA, WA.

States not listed are delaying start of season.

There was at least one inaccuracy from this source https://blogs.columbian.com/high-school-sports/2020/08/14/how-each-state-is-handling-high-school-football-season-this-fall-across-the-country/

The Big Ten is currently the laughingstock of college sports..There are alot of articles criticizing and mocking the Big Ten and Kevin Warren..Most stating it was a political decision..One pod cast after another one article after another and none positive. GOODBYE Kevin Warren we barely knew ya

Hey. Very good news. I have been waiting this for a long time. I'm a fan of this sport and I want to bet on some next matches. I found several good odds on footballbetsnow.com and there are good possibilities to win money! And what about you, do you like sport betting?
