Pickin' and Grinnin' - NFL Conference Championships

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on January 28th, 2023 at 11:31 AM

Mates,

Down to the NFC and AFC Conference Championships this weekend.  Some really enjoyable NFL playoff football has preceded it, but now we find out who is going to the Super Bowl on 2/12.

The early game is the NFC Championship with the Niners traveling to Philly to play the Eagles.  Some injury news is that McCaffery has missed practice most (all?) of this week but guarantees he's playing.  Meanwhile, Hurts had his shoulder dinged up 2 weeks ago, but looked ready last week.  Game is on Fox at 3:00 EST.

@Eagles                      2.5 pt favorite                   Niners

And then the AFC kicks off with K.C. and 'Mahohes' at home, playing the Bengals and Joe Burrow.   The Bengals have had the Chiefs number of late and Mahomes ankle looked mightly messed up last week.  Will Chad Henne be pressed into service and lead the Chiefs to victory?  Game is on CBS at 6:30.

@Chiefs                      1.5 pt favorite                    Bengals

So, who do you pick, why, and regardless of those answers, who would you want to see win and advance to the Super Bowl?

I hope you are all well, enjoying your weekend

 If Hurts is healthy, it is hard to bet against Philly.

I think Burrow is going to have his way again against KC, particularly if Mahomes' mobility is compromised from his high ankle sprain.

The Reid comes up with a great game plan and the Chiefs win a close one.  Eagles and Niners are very close so I'll give the nod to the home team with the more experienced quarterback.  Taking the two favorites minus the points.

Eagles - 2.5 and Bengals money line. The chiefs have lost a couple in a row against Cincinnati with a healthy Mahomes. The Eagles just seem like an all-around phenomenal team

Hoping for the 49ers and Bengals to win then the Bengals to win the Super Bowl. This is only because I have a friend who likes the Bengals; I have no real vested interested in who wins.

I wont watch the games either. However, I did watch Prince's and Michael Jackson's halftime special on youtube recently and would recommend them.

I'm taking both home teams.  I just cannot bring myself to root for the Bengals, because Ohio.  Worst State Ever.  And the Eagles look solid.  So do the niners but their rookie QB may be the difference.

I can usually pick a team to root for at this stage of the playoffs, but I don’t really care about these 4 teams. I’m sick of KC, Bengals were a fun story last year but everyone has jumped on the bandwagon. And nothing really stands out to me about the Eagles and 49ers. I guess I will go with a 49ers v Bengals  superbowl. And in that scenario I will take the 49ers.

Niners/Bengals.

I love the niners team with Kittle, Debo and McCaffery to go with that nasty defense.  Also, Robby Gould has never missed a FG or PAT in the playoffs...ever.

Bengals look strong.  Mahomes having only one good wheel changes his game greatly.

I don't think Cincy is going to sit back and let Mahomes dial it up. Jax's DC killed them last week by not making an adjustment.

Love Cincy outright. As much as everyone hypes up Reid, KC just seems to keep teams around when they should be up by 28. Did it last year with this Cincy crew which is better than last year's team.

SF straight up. I still like their physicality and really strong defense to make the difference.

I hate Cincy because I'm a Browns fan, but I wouldn't bet against them right now. Would like to see Purdy make the SB for the story, but Hurts is a good dude and hard to root against.

Mahomes is recovering from a high ankle sprain. To my understanding there not something you just fully recover from In the span of a week. Even with the world class physical therapists that every NFL team can afford. Bengals ran the Bills off their own field last week and the Chiefs struggled to put a good but not that good Jacksonville team away.

If Mahomes was healthy I’d lean KC by a field goal. But I think Cincinnati takes this by a touchdown anyway.

Eagles all the way. The 49ers have gone on a really good run lately but when looking back at their schedule, the teams that they’ve beaten are, by and large, not that good. And after what I saw the Eagles do last week, forget about it.

The Brock Purdy Cinderella story comes to an end. 49ers defense keeps them in it for most of the game but I have a hard time seeing SF pull this off unless Hurts is not 100% and/or plays a bad game.
