Peppers has a nice new stat to add to his resume

Submitted by Dawkins on

This was just before Minny's final drive, so he probably finished with 85+

He is a highly conditioned athlete.  As the game went on yesterday, he did not look tired at any time.  And you could see him get pissed everytime the kickoffs went out of the end zone. I think he wanted to house one so bad yesterday which is why I think he made that poor decision to try to catch that punt on the 5 yd line.  That was an amazing performance yesterday.  Dude is a pure football player.

is the number magnus cites in his write-up

Jabrill Peppers filled up the stat book. Peppers played 92 total plays, which is a little concerning. That seems like a ton of plays, and since he’s touching the ball so often on special teams and offense, I’m afraid that might not be sustainable.

and use Peppers sparringly, saving heavy use for when we need it, @Indiana (#70 Massey) if need be, likely @PSU (#32 Massey), and surely vs OSU (#2 Massey).  (Rutgers is ranked #83 by Massey, while we are ranked #14).

The next stat I would love to see is a TD on all three phases of the game, with less snaps. He is capable of doing that. He actually had the opportunity to do that yesterday. Almost had one pick six and that return should have been a TD if he did not try to take on the punter. The guy is unbelievable.

I think it would be nice to have Peppers on offense for 2-5 plays every week regardless of if we need him, to help him stay as comfortable on offense as possible. Against OSU I would mind seeing him push 20.

He is making plays too. Seemed like he was everywhere last night. As mentioned above could have had 3 TDs.

So glad we were able to reel him in!

Show him some Denard tapes and let him try to do that.

Also, I'd like to see that QB Sweep with an end around pitch to Chesson if the entire defense is swarming to Peppers in the Wild Wolverine.

That's a great thought. Near the end of the game, he looked like he was given the option to throw when he had Butt (I believe it was Butt IIRC) as a target...he obviously didn't but he pumped twice and both looked legitimate vs some sort of decoy. If he was given the green light to pass on that play, see no reason to not give him a look at the read option; would imply the coaches trust him and I would imagine reading an edge rusher/LB is more natural for him than passing/looking downfield for receivers.

Interesting stat though is that M's D is one of the teams with lowest amount of plays on the field. Average D plays per game Michigan - 61 UCLA - 85 That's 24 plays a game Peppers isn't on the field because of ball control offense and great D. Seems like that's a huge benefit that allows him to play as much as he does.

I hope we don't overuse him.

Doesn't deserve it's own thread, but still interesting:

Leidner   16 of 23, 1 TD, 0 Int. 78.5 rating

Speight     3 of 6,   1 TD, 0 Int.  77.8 rating

Rudock     13/21,    1 TD, 1 Int. 60.0 rating

Say what you will about his mgmt of the qbs, but OSU hasn't lost since JT went down against us last Nov. I want find holes in his coaching but the guy just wins regardless of whatever obstacles are in his way. He also juggled Leak & Tebow to a NC.

Having a better passing QB would have been nice but Denard wasn't misused. He was brought in to be a dual-threat spread QB and he was a damn good one. No, he didn't have Brady accuracy but some people talk as if he had Nick Sheridan/Russell Bellomy levels of ineptitude. I wouldn't trade Denard's time here for anything.

was just going to reply where you did. Ten plays on offense really isn't that much. It's not like the dude is running the length of the field every time. That might empty the gas tank pretty quick but if there is any athlete on the field that can do it, I'd put him up at the top. The kid is a darn mutation. Some different breed of stud we all just aren't accustomed to seeing. He ate the yellow cake, God Damnit. Do I need to tell you all what you can do with yellow cake? hahaha

Phenomenal athlete and well conditioned is a much better way to describe him than freak or mutant. Those give him no credit. And they seem to be descriptions that come up most with black athletes as in Tate describing Denard. These guys have developed their bodies in skills with incredible commitment.
