Michigan creates their own luck on defense. You could argue five games ago about small sample size. Now it's a definite pattern. Look at the passing stats against the B1G's best QB's. This D is shut down dominant. No question about it.

Yes. You make that luck by smothering the run plays, locking down receivers and just generally chasing and knocking the quarterback out of his comfort zone all day. If he only has two, maybe three, chances in a game to make a big play, he's more likely to screw it up because it's completely unexpected when it happens.

Haskins specialty is throwing short passes to athletic receivers, or throwing deep against tomato cans.

Fantastic. Simply fantastic.
Get even more healthy the next couple of weeks before The Game.

Don Brown is a defensive God

Can someone please make a shirt with Don Brown drinking a cup of coffee/tea with his wonky pinky out and have the shirt say "Keeping Ann Arbor Classy since 2016"
I have no artistic capability.

The defensive performance was a thing of beauty, merriment and joy.
Hail!

Wondering outloud: I wonder if a big part of our secondaries success is that it throws off the intended spacing of the routes? Even with the smothering man coverage, there are guys that get open, but the QBs throws are WAY off... which has had me worried for lightening McHaskins. But I wonder if the change in timing and spacing by our smothering DBs is what has caused PSU, Wisc, and MSU to be SOOOOO off with their throws?

11.3
That’s the median QBR for starting opposing QBs against M this season. Only one has been greater than 50: ND.
That seems remarkably uncommon to me.

Good night, Coach Brown. I hope that you sleep like a baby tonight...

Not thread worthy, but did anyone else see the Peach Bowl representatives on the sideline? I find it interesting that they send people to watch these games. This team has bigger aspirations.

The Peach Bowl is at-large vs at-large New Years Day six, they are certainly in line to get the winner of this game if they don't make the playoff. And a two loss Michigan could very well end up in Atlanta.
A Penn State win would have put them in the hunt for a New Years six as well.
Important game for the Peach Bowl. I'm sure they had guys at other games.

Honestly, I think people are kinda glossing over how impressive it is that we held Penn St under 200 total yards

Man I hope Michigan fans are appreciating Bush, Winovich and Gary playing together. What a damn treat this defense has been this year.

I can’t believe PSU had the audacity to run down the score like that.

After all the talk about boring safeties, I really liked the play where McSorley broke the pocket and headed for the sideline on a third and long, and Kinnel flew in out of nowhere and absolutely stuck McSorely about four yards short of the marker. That awareness and closing speed was really nice to see.

The best way to score on the defense this year is to wait until Michigan gets a big lead and the second string comes in. Don Brown is unbelievable.

I just can’t see OSU scoring more than 10-14 on us. I’ve held out saying this until this game, but this is by far the best defense we’ve had since Donny’s been here. Maybe since ‘97. I have an amazing amount of confidence in Donny and our D. Especially, when we bring pressure. Nobody can handle that.

I’m still amazed every week how incredible Don Brown is with halftime adjustments. The second half is just, wow, I can’t even put it into words. I’m so thankful we have Doc Brown.

My one minor quibble, is that the Dline looked gassed in the middle of the 3rd/early forth. They weren’t getting good push and the PSU oline was protecting the QB really well. Did anyone else notice that?

Then UM brought pressure, and that was that. I really enjoyed the play in which both Glasgow and Hudson crept up to the line pre-snap, and Glasgow eventually sacked the QB. How many times will we see the 2-viper formation?

I saw it from the stands. I think Michigan went very base defense low pressure at that point, it was about covering guys downfield and containing McSorley. Don't give up the big play.
