Watch ESPN2, Delaware vs. E. Washington. Delaware looks just like Michigan and it's not because they just copied us, their program was built by two Michigan Men that played under  Fritz Crisler. Their coach, KC Keeler, is the real fuckin deal.

Mods: Can someone with privileges please start a Friday night football thread?  There is an outside chance that our next coach is in the game right now, and a good chance that he is in the next game.

thanks.

A few reason we should not freak out if Hoke gets the job: 1. Understands defense and more importantly the d line position. (Most glaring weakness on UM's d IMO. When youre moving 5 star dt's to third string lg, you have a player development problem.) 2. Is from Ohio and understands that beating Ohio State is the top priority. (A la Tressel when he took OSU job.) 3. Had a true freshman back rush for over 1500 yards and 17 touchdowns at SDSU this year. (So I think he can recuit to some extent) 4. Seems to have a tough thick skinned mentality which the next coach is gonna need after all of this. By no means do I claim to know who is best for this job. We all know Michigan is a special job and deserves the best. It could be a number of the candidates mentioned. Whoever it is better do more research than RR did before taking the position. Win and understand the Big 10...everything else will follow.

you can say "understands beating ohio state is a priority" all you want but there's no way in hell our team was gonna beat osu throughout the past three years.  we dont have anywhere close to the talent. osu is a very good team and will continue being a very good team.  We need a coach that's gonna make michigan a very good team, no amount of prioritization is gonna change the fact that we have to play good football before we dream of beating OSU.

There is no disputing the talent differential between OSU and UM. That is why I added point 4 because you're obviously only gonna get by on that excuse for so long (3 years I.E, RR). Teams win with less talent all the time. Was Purdue more talented than Ohio St last year? Brady and his band of white midgets would like a word with you about talent being the only way to beat solid teams.

Obviously it's not only about talent... Mind you purdue beat michigan last year as well...

The point is that ohio state crap is BS. Rich Rodriguez knew damn well that beating ohio state is a priority. Any coach who comes here is going to know beating ohio state is the priority. Most schools make a priority out of beating their rivals.  It's a stupid reason to support hoke.

Look, I am pissed we fired RR, as far as im concerned Michigan was poised to have a much better season next year. Therefore, I might be biased, though I don't think so.  Also, this past season was one of the toughest big10 seasons in a long time, three teams solidly top 10 overall.  There will be a falloff in big10 competition next season and Rich Rod would have had a much easier time next season, especially considering both our offense and defense was extraordinarily young this year.

Hoke might do well at Michigan, but it has nothing to do with understanding that winning the biggest rivalry game in sports is important.

I've always believed that RR would succeed from day one. I believed he was the innovative mind we needed at the time to bring UM up to speed. But...I also believe he didn't fully understand what he got into. While his offensive concepts are impressive at times, we weren't really built to handle any kind of physicality or inclement weather. The reason I focus on Ohio St is due to the fact that: 1. I hate them as any UM fan does 2. They have been on top of the Big 10 for years. We all want to be that team so why not get a guy that understands how we all feel about that. Tressel understood the other side of it when he took over and proceeded to beat UM immediately with another coaches recruits. That obviously led to other good things. Hoke may or may not be that guy. I'm not sold either, but he may be with his background. Who wouldn't love to hear "Ohio States time is over" from the new HC at the first presser? It's a bad spot UM is in. No way around it. Not too proud of the way this all went down. I wouldn't have been opposed to RR staying another year but we all know Michigan wasn't even close to the level of respectability in football right now. No doubt RR was not given a fair shot by the useless fiction novelists at the Freep, but he knows there was one way they would all shut up. He just couldn't get it done.

"Understands that beating Ohio State is the top priority"??

A few questions...Are you asserting that other coaching candidates, real and imagined, don't "understand" that?  If a person does "understand" that beating Ohio State is the top priority, does that make them more likely to beat Ohio State?  Less likely to beat Ohio State?  None of the above?  If it makes them more likely to beat Ohio State, can a coach be made to "understand" that beating Ohio State is the top priority in 10 months or less?

I would say that understanding beating Ohio St would have you build your team with the abilty and style to do so. I'm hoping several candidates get that. If we want to be the best in the Big 10, then that's where it starts IMO. By no means am I claiming Hoke is the only or best option for this. I was just not gonna jump like most if he gets hired. Sometimes a guy just is the right guy.

Brandon:  Now, Coach Hoke, a lot has been written in the press about our wanting a "Michigan Man." That's wrong.

Hoke:  Really? 'Cause I'm, you know, a Michigan Man.

Brandon:  Yeah. I know. What I said I wanted was a "Meshugganah Man."

Hoke:  You mean, like, a crazy guy who eats grass and stuff?

Brandon:  Yeah. So how do you feel about, say, eating field turf at football games?"

Our traditional rivals included 3 top 10 teams this year, and RR had a tough break with woolfolk getting injured and warren going pro.  As far as I'm concerned, i see 3 wins, 5 wins, and 7 wins.   You don't think RR had a legit chance at 9 wins next season?  I would totally agree that the moment the improvement stalls, you cut him; if 2011 got us 7 wins again, cut him. But give the guy a chance to continue improving, no?  Fire Gerg and get a better D coordinator.   DB could have told RR, i'm gonna start looking for a replacement for 2012 and if you don't get 9 wins you're gone, that's honestly what I would've done.

Look, if DB had harbaugh lined up, I buy it, you're right, 7 wins isn't acceptable and harbaugh could have been an extraordinary good fit.  But now, with Denard on our roster and JH dead, the best guy for the job is Rich Rod, of course for all intents and purposes, RR is dead too :/

So now it's Les Miles or Brady Hoke?

I told you guys Les Miles will be the coach. We knew of this last night. The news will b released tommorow.

TCU has been a force in the MWC since they joined, and I give Patterson all the credit.  He consistently produces what seem on the field to be elite athletes, but who often turn out to have been under-the-radar prospects that he developed into world-beaters.  His defense is consistently awesome and very aggressive and I like his offense better than RichRod's.  Although RR's offense included some read option stuff, it was more often just read option looks that were actually simple hand-offs, and even more often just straight-forward zone plays.  Patterson's offense incorporates more actual option looks and some nice passing schemes that compliment them nicely.

Contrary to what some said earlier in this thread, he doesn't have much of a southern drawl; his most obvious vocal characteristic is that he usually loses his voice by halftime of every game.  The dude seems to yell constantly.

He's certainly my favorite, and I hope DB is giving him a hard look.

Edit:  As I finish typing, it seems that TCU just gave Patterson a big contract extension, so this all may be moot.

maybe we should rehire Rich Rodriquez since we know he can run an offense and hire Brady Hoke as well since he is defense oriented and have to coaches on the sideline. In all reality we could get both for less than Harbaugh would have been.

I know what Rich can do on offense, we have all seen it. I have also seen what Brady Hoke can do on defense and he has alot of experience including his 8 years at Michigan as defensive Coach.

Is there a rule that you can't have two coaches and make everybody happy. I really don't want Les Miles.

So they gave him a contract extension to raise his buyout... it just means they're nervous. Big deal, not going to stop us. We could probably double his pay even if he got a raise.

Remember that time Rich Rodriguez signed a contract extension with WVU and then never left... oh wait.

Maybe DB should simply hold a press conference and ask if there are any coaches willing to coach us. Makes it less painful than getting rejected all the time.

I'd support Hoke if he was hired and the hyperbolic negativity shown toward him is a product of people just doing what Brian does, but to say he's a better candidate than Patterson.....

I can't agree with that at all.

Rehire Rich Rodriquez as Head Offensive Coach, maybe a little less pay. I really did think that Rich Rod done a great job on offense, we all know that it was our defense and special teams that had the issues.

Hire Brady Hoke as Head Defensive Coach. Both being equal one for offense and one for defense. When Brady Hoke was our defensive coach we were always ranked with a top defense.

Both Coaches would cost less than Harbaugh or probably many other prospects.

In addition: Brady brings the passion of Michigan Football and I truly believe after 3 years that Rich had some passion for Michigan as well. When he came he didn't realize what the rivalry's and the passion that Michigan fans had for these rivalry's.

I would never say one coach is better than another, Rich Rod is a very good coach and got a raw deal from alot of fans, he tried and he was very much a Michigan Coach when he was relieved of his duties.
