Packers Are Applying to Host B1G Championship at Lambeau
I’ve gone to many games in Detroit, and I lived downtown. Although some of what you say is true, this take is antiquated. There are more hotels now. And stops from the Qline and people mover are closer than a half mile, even though they aren’t very useful. Downtown Detroit is an awesome place now, and for the past 15 years.
There are plenty of safe places to park now. In fact, a lot of places would like to take your money for safe parking.
Detroit still lags behind other major cities when it comes to hotel space. Crain's Detroit has put out multiple articles over the past few years talking about the lack of hotel space compared to other cities. Just look up Detroit and All Star game and you'll find articles about how we're trying to increase our hotel space.
I guess my problem with the public transit is that it's not very useful, as you said. I tried the Qline once and it's a cool concept, but not practical if it can't branch out from its current footprint.
Why can’t you park at Greektown and take the People Mover or walk ~8 blocks?
Way too cold . Id never sit for 4-5 hours in that weather to watch a football game
Thanks for sharing.
Frozen Tundra mindset checks out.
Terrible idea. Green Bay in early December can be pretty rough. Ford Field would make more sense
Will never happen. It's a chance for the B1G to showcase the conference, so they will always play it indoors where the temperature and weather will be controlled.
Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Detroit are the only cities right now that meet the criteria.
They played the Super Bowl at Giants Stadium and it worked out very well from a weather standpoint. I gotta think that if the NFL is willing to take the chance then the B1G would at least consider it
Step the fuck up, Bears.
I'd be down to rotate it through soldier field as well (did this in my ncaa dynasty before) but they must find an actual expert in turf to get that grass up to snuff, the Chicago parks and rec people haven't been getting it done.
It is kind of a wonder how the NFL allows that field to continue soldiering on...
That seems like a massively inconvenient location to have the Championship. Chicago, Indy, Detroit, Cleveland (except it's a boring dump), and Pittsburgh all seem like reasonable travel options for a decent number of schools.
This should be labeled OT. This has nothing to do with michigan. I know. It hurts me too
The concept is awesome, but what you’d all need to remember is that 7-8 times a decade, your opponent is going to be Wisconsin, minus the one off years where Iowa or Nebraska might sneak in.
Madison is a two hour drive from Green Bay, so the BTCG would be virtually a home game for Wisconsin if it were played in Green Bay. I’m sure Michigan fans would still gobble up their allotment of the tickets, but I’m thinking the allotment would still end up anywhere between 60-40 and 70-30 in favor of Wisconsin.
PJ Fleck would like a word massive ton of words with you.
PJ Fleck had the best season Minnesota has had in a long time.......and still lost the Big Ten west. Let’s see how he does this year and next.
But Indianapolis is within an hour or two of Indiana and Purdue.
/Hears crickets chirping regarding this argument
Fuck the Packers. That is all.
Lol must be I got a bunch of negs for saying “fuck Lambeau” then
Cool in principle but not sure it would work out. Weather aside, does Green Bay have the hotel space? (They may because, Packers of course). How would flights work?
I think in terms of what makes the most sense outside of Indy are either Chicago or Detroit (groundbreaking, I know).
Theres about six or seven hotels surrounding the stadium now. Many of the quaint ranch style homes are either corporate owned or airbnbs. One could also stay in Appleton, Oshkosh, or Milwaukee and have a substantial drive but not impossible.
I'd like to see them play in Indianapolis before that.
As long as Michigan is in the BTCG, I don’t give a shit where it is played.
That would be awesome! I've always thought that the Big Ten championship should rotate between Detroit, Indianapolis, Chicago, and Green Bay.
Should include Minneapolis in that list. It is the newest and nicest NFL stadium in the B1G footprint (even though it's indoor).
I'm down for this idea. B1G should move around to different NFL Stadiums around the schools. How cool would it be to have the games at Solider Field, Heinz Field, or MetLife Stadium? A B1G Championship with some weather to deal with would make it more interesting and a better atmosphere than Lucas Oil or a Ford Field in my opinion.
So if Michigan can get there, in my lifetime, I will have to freeze my ass off, when I go. I'd rather have it in Indy, in comfort. Also, our new offense will fair better in ideal weather conditions, like the dome.
Would be a great attraction for West Coast and Southern recruits to watch the best two Big10 schools freeze their asses off in a championship game?
I'd rather it be played on campus or at Soldier Field, but Lambeau would be preferable to Indy.
Indoor football is an abomination.
This will be seen as a brilliant move when the Pinstripe Bowl is added to the playoff rotation
This is way up there in terms of fucking stupid ideas.
