Our defense is what so far?
After 2 games how good does everyone think our defense is?
MTSU defensive stats vs. CSU remind you this team lost to a first year Division 1 program 44-7 James Madison.
9 sacks, 13 tfl, 4 PD 5 QB hurries and 1 Def. TD and 2 int.
I hope our defense is really good but after seeing what MTSU did to CSU I think their O-line is terrible.
The Maryland game I think will give us a look at how our defense really is.

I think we have our best DT since Mo Hurst which opens up quite a bit of opportunities for the rest of our D-line and LBs. I think our secondary will be better than last year by mid season if they are not already better now. I think we will be able to tell a lot more about our edge players come the Maryland game. If they continue to wreck havoc then I believe we have a recipe of an elite team. I believe our offense is quite a bit better this year than last which also helps out our D by not putting all the pressure on them and providing them more breaks throughout games by staying on the field longer. I believe this is the most balanced team in the Harbaugh era. Go Blue!

Sometimes I hate speculative projection shit like this. There's gonna be ups and downs like every seasons and fans will freak out as soon as the defense looks shaky. Our linebackers will get exposed at somepoint, that's virtually guaranteed. I'm sure I'll be upset when we lose too. McCarthy will get dinged up at some point or not play well. That's also pretty much guaranteed, but of course the fans boo Cade. A college kid who beat OSU and lead Mich to a BigTen Championship. I know half the people are dumber than average by definition, but I'm always amazed at how shallow and incapable of balanced thoughs and emotions so many people are. It's a game we love bc it's an escape from the hellscape nightmare of normal life, but it's just a fucking game. Relax and enjoy it for what it is. Life is too short to mouth ejaculate your opinion jizz all over the season and every conceivable outcome. I need a drink.

I arranged for a brain transplant. Couldn't fit a chimp brain in that little koala skull so we went with a lemur brain.

rgard went back and asked his brain supplier. this is the answer he got....

Life is too short to mouth ejaculate your opinion jizz ...
This may be the greatest line since Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote, "How do I love thee? So many fucking ways."
(Note: It was a first draft. And Liz was a bit of a potty mouth.)

Sam it took me a moment to upvote because I was busy writing that down.

When I was younger, I was capable of forming several opinions a day. Now I’m done after just one.

Looks like you need some morphine, but the constant stream of “expectations” and “analysis” posts that don’t contain an original thought or evidence of any expertise is just too much.

Congratulations on being able to wedge a “Tribute to Cade” into a thread about the defense.

The D has the potential to be very good. We won’t know how high the ceiling is until several B1G games have been completed.
Go Blue!

I love this place but the idea that we have been able to glean anything about this defense from those first two games is absolutely ridiculous.
September 13th, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
We dominated opponents that should be dominated. Unlike A&M, ND and other big name programs that didn’t handle their business…

So I asked the online Magic 8 Ball if the D was legit.
And it said, 'Don't count on it.'
So I'm feeling a little nervous.

Kudos to you for acknowledging your information source...looks as though many others have the same one-just won't disclose it.
Nobody knows for sure about many things regarding how this season will play out. But can all the hand-wringers at least agree with "So far so good"???
Coach Harbaugh is a huge "complimentary football" guy. It will be interesting to see if there will be times when he asks JJ to turtle the offense a bit and grind out 3 down,11 yard first downs and 6 minute possessions. I'm looking at you Maryland and OSU.

Aggressive....whether that means anything with better comp is another question

Just warming up.

Say what again

You mean when we play better teams and are better we will know if the D is better - that’s like, just your opinion man.
September 13th, 2022 at 3:14 AM ^
If the D keeps Maryland under 20 points. I would say it is a good defense!
September 13th, 2022 at 5:07 AM ^
In scholastic terms, the defense is like someone with a Master's degree in Mathematics who's taken a high school algebra test.
Of course they did very well, but it's not exactly a fair test of their abilities.

Aggressive, smart, and a bunch of dogs (in a good way). What we don't know is what level the talent is. It's high...but is it championship level...not sure.

we have a run wall
McGregor, by the Iowa game, is going to become the breakout player of the year on D......
September 13th, 2022 at 8:37 AM ^
Michigan's defense doesn't have enough data points to draw any meaningful conclusions.
September 13th, 2022 at 9:27 AM ^
Too soon to tell, Jimmy.
September 13th, 2022 at 10:08 AM ^
I'm not sure if OP is saying CSU lost to James Madison or MTSU did, but JMU was on App State's level in the FCS and beat Va Tech some years back in a FCS/FBS matchup.
Also, don't mess with the Sun Belt Conference. It's a shame we don't have an expanded playoff this year because their conference would be well on their way to having a seat at the larger tournament.

Fast as hell, but. We’ve played no one worth a dam so who knows when a real team laces up the cleats. Maryland looks to be one of the better teams in the big ten, simply because the big is ass this year.
September 13th, 2022 at 11:31 AM ^
good information that the rams is just as bad as rainbow warriors. Will keep my expectation checked for now.
September 13th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
No doubt the Maryland will be the biggest test to our defense. If our guys can play the way they did vs OSU last years which greatly slowed down that potent offense, the we should be in good shape against a healthy MD offense.
It could be fun predicting the score on this one.

Deep. Talented. Young. Untested.
DC might be the biggest positive so far. Minter appears to be a great move after Macdonald, with the defense playing fast and well organized immediately to start the season.
